Ladder Guidelines/Help

by Mace

How do I join?

To be able to play on the ladder you need to be signed up on the forums. You can sign up for the forums here. After you've signed up you'll need to activate your ladder account here.

How do I play?

After you've activated your ladder account you can find other people who've signed up on the ladder to play. By viewing their profiles you'll get any contact information they have. Note that before you begin a game you should specify that it is indeed a ladder game.

Reporting Games

The winner of a game will post the results using the ladder program. If it is a team game the winning team must choose a player to post the results. Results are based on the honor system. Should it come out that you've been cheating you will be banned from the ladder. We sincerely hope that we'll never need to ban someone for making up results. If there is a disagreement of any sort please email the ladder admin, Kester or FD2. If, over time it seems that you are at the root of multiple disagreements and are not being a good sportsman you may also be banned from the ladder.

A Rules Summary

  1. Before the game begins you must specify that it is indeed a ladder game.
  2. Only team games in which all of the participants are members of the BFME2H Ladder will count towards the ladder. Again, all players must agree that it is indeed a ladder game.
  3. Trust is assumed! However, it is a very good idea to take a screenshot of the winning screen and submit it with the game. Submitting a screenshot is not required, but is encouraged to prevent disputes. Screenshots must be in JPG, PNG, or GIF formats. Recorded games are useful as well but since they're not always accurate a screenshot is better proof. Anyone caught lying or cheating will automatically be removed from the ladder.
  4. Submitted screenshots must have your forum name clearly visible. Many people use names that have no relation to their forum identity whatsoever, and we cannot keep track of such things. Any screenshots submitted without clear indication of the participants (forum name used as game name) will be deleted along with the accompanying game.
  5. Disconnections: If you disconnect you will forfeit the game. This may sound harsh but too many arguments can arise from disconnections. If a player disconnects during the first 5 minutes of gameplay (i.e. game time, not real time due to lag) the game does not count against him but he should come back to the lobby as soon as he can. If this happens in a team game the remaining players should continue to play. Unless everyone in the game is fine with the game not counting, the game will be counted in the case of a disconnect.
  6. Desynchronized Games: If the game becomes desynchronized, the match will not count.
  7. Smurfing will not be tolerated.
  8. All wins must be reported within a 24 hour period. If there are any disputes, an admin should be emailed within the same 24 hour period.
  9. You may play the same person three times within a 24 hour period.
  10. Attempts to distort the spirit of this ladder (such as through being involved in multiple disputes about who won, smurfing, etc) can result in being removed from the ladder or otherwise penalized.
  11. We reserve the right to add, remove, or otherwise modify the rules if required to maintain the integrity of the ladder. All changes to the rules will be announced prior to coming into effect.

Suggestions and Bug Reporting

If you have a suggestion for a feature that could be added to the ladder, email an admin. If you've found a bug please email Mace at mace@heavengames.com and it will be fixed.

Ranks

  • Expert - 100 points or higher

  • Skilled - 75-99.5 points

  • Intermediate - 50-74.5 points

  • Rookie - 25-49.5 points

  • Newbie - 0-24.5 points

  • ZeroGamer - 0 points and no games played

1 vs. 1 Scoring

In a 1v1 game, the gain/loss of points is determined by the winner's skill level. For example, if the winner is a rookie (Score > 25), and the loser is a newbie (Score 0-24), the rookie would gain 3 points, and the newbie would lose half that much (in this case, 3/2, or 1.5 points). There are no negative scores, so 0 is the lowest possible score one can have. If the loser is an expert (Score > 100) and the winner is a newbie, the newbie would gain 18 points and the expert would lose 18/2, or 9 points. The following is a table that lists how many points gained/lost depending on which level you defeat.

1v1 Ladder Scoring

ZeroGamer 0/4.50/4.50/40/3.50/1.50/1.5
Newbie-2.5/4.5-2.5/4.50/40/3.50/30/3

Skilled-3.5/10.5-3/10.5-3/9-2.5/9-2.5/7.50/7.5
Expert-3.5/12-3.5/12-3/10.5-3/10.5-2.5/9-2.5/9

Team Scoring

Team games can have anywhere from 1-4 players on a team, but the teams must be even. We have decided that due to the fact that if you have, for example, a 1v2, that the 1 person will have more money, therefore better units, which while isn't everything, isn't an accurate portrayal of skill. The score is calculated by adding the ratings of all the winners and all the losers then calculating the difference between the two (losing team rating subtracted from the winning team rating, negative numbers can occur), which is then matched up with the team-scoring table.

Just a note - the ladder doesn't support free for all games at this point (it might in the future), so please stick to 1v1, 2v2, 3v3 or 4v4 games.

Have you activated your account yet? That has to be done before you log in. There might also be a glitch - if you've already activated your account, post again and Mace can take a look at it.

How do I sign up?

It keeps saying "User account does not exist" or "User account is invalid"

Change in the ladder rules - you may now count three games against the same person in the same day. Previously it was only one.

We're in the midst of making a few changes to the ladder system. When it's done the scoring will be computed differently (I'll post the new chart when it's done). Sunday's ladder games are still in the pending queue, but they'll be approved when it's all done.

The ladder is still being worked on, but you can continue reporting games - they're all waiting in a queue and will show up soon.

The changes to the ladder are complete, thanks to Mace who programmed the new scoring system! All of the games already in the ladder have been re-scored according to the new system.

The main changes:

1. When you play against an opponent in a higher bracket and lose, you don't lose any points (i.e. we can play lots of games against Bendak now, and when we lose our score won't go down ).
2. When you play against an opponent in a higher bracket and win, you gain more points than if you'd played someone in your own bracket (i.e. if you should win against Bendak, your score will reflect your great victory ).
3. The loss of points for playing someone in your own bracket or lower and losing has been decreased.

Here is the revised scoring chart for 1v1 games:
