Hi Clarkbar,
I suppose you meant stone when you said bricks.
Two adjacent stonemasons are required to call for a load of stone. Usually pairs of masons take up positions on the pyramid together, so there is no problem, but sometimes (discussed below) a mason takes up a position by himself. If there are enough stonemason guilds then eventually (when the course is nearing completion) others masons will take up positions next to the isolated ones, and everything will be fine. However, if all masons take up isolated positions, then construction will halt.
Some people have reported building pyramids with only 1 stonemason guild, so it is possible (and quite slow). But sometimes the problem described above happens. I don't know what causes it, but I suspect the demise (by predators, invaders, or something else) of either a stone-pulling team or a laborer walking from a work camp to a stone storage yard. Especially if there are 1 or more work camps on the east bank in Meidum, I'd suspect that a laborer from there was intercepted by hippos or Libyans.
If this is the problem, you might be able to avoid it by ensuring the survival of stone-pulling teams and laborers that will become stone-pulling teams. The easiest solution, however, is to build a few more stonemason guilds, which may also greatly speed up construction.
