Topic Subject: More Glyph Art!
posted 09-16-01 22:44 ET (US)
Since I am stuck on a dial up connection I work my housing blocks in Photoshop. I have all of the images saved on my hard drive. I am looking though for some more images and wondered if someone has added to the glyph set on their own.

Specifically I would like:

Other commodities for the SYs (we have linen, how about beer, pottery, etc.) These would be a big help for we beginners.

The next two sizes of gardens

Any other requests?

Thanks for "bumping" this up. Basteta, is there anywhere all the symbols, your new ones as well, are together on one page? Having a bit of difficulty getting the new ones to merge neatly on a Word doc, mainly cos I don't use Word at all. I write in Word Perfect.

Have to admit I hate nearly everything by MS because it forces its products on you by Default and yo have to be pretty savvy and aware there are alternative and often better products out there. Win XP Pro is the exception - in this they have finally come up with a good OS - apart from having to use Real Player, Win Media Player, and MS Fax and Pic viewer for all .gifs!!

Are you aware of this program at all? Seems to me there is a BIG overlap of interests here.
Campaign cartographer by ProFantasy is used by nearly all major gaming progs like AD & D for their commercial maps.
It has the basic Mapping program, then the Dungeon add on that allows you to design interiors of any structure - I use it for space ships. There is also a City Mapping add-on which I haven't yet needed. http://www.profantasy.com / - the Home site.

Here are some maps generated by it - there is one of a space ship a friend and I designed for my books there called the Couana, if you look for it. http://www.profantasy.com/library/default.asp

Program is easy to use - you have a RH row of Symbols and you just point and click then place them in your map. But designing the Symbols you personally want needs more skill. I have done one or two. It is a kind of CAD based program, but much more versatile. You can rotate yor chosen symbol - say a temple one for argument sake - to any psition and orientation you want, and size it up or down. You can increase the size of your map so one small area is the size of 4 pieces of A4/Letter paper (or bigger, the Print option allows you to make it as big as you want) - all without losing ANY resolution of your symbols whatsoever! And you can place text anywhere in the map. I love it.

You say you design in Photoshop - how do you compile them into a map? I know very little about using art porogs - it takes me almost 1 year to do a novel and I usually work flat out. Had to learn how to use CC cos I desperately needed deck plans when my characters are on a ship for a whole novel - have to keep the right cabins beside each other, and know how far it is to the sick-bay and so on.

Thanks again,

Miut

Miut

I create the map in PhotoShop. I have a folder with all of the symbols as separate files and I simply cut and paste as needed. If I am on-line at an off peak time I use Virtual PC and run Explorer and then use the on-line Glyph Generator here at Pharaoh heaven for smaller maps or segments of maps. The legend itself is missing a few files but most you can find in one of the bigger housing blocks like Vaia's.

Mine are listed only here.

I haven't heard of the program you are using but it sounds very interesting.

My son would know what you are talking about as he doeas a lot of art in Photoshop and PSP for game forums he posts in - werewolves and vampires I believe. (he's 17)

Give CAmpaign CArtoghrapher a look, I think you will be impressed. There is a way to get bitmaps into it but it is fiddly. You would prolly manage it fine. You can get a trial version down I believe, certainly a viewer for free to let you see the maps on their site in it, but you can't print out from it. It is a Brit product and actually very cheap for what it is - less than $45 I believe - they do bundled packs too.

I can't see any of the images in this thread. Is it just me? Some of these glyphs would be really useful.

Hi, stormnebula!
As this is an old thread, it's most possible that the lonks are broken, thus not giving you any image.

Have you tried this page? It's most useful.
