This describes the actual construction of Dunqul Oasis, which starts in Jan 2246BC with 4500 Db (at Very Hard difficulty).
35 small statues "fenced" in the 4 hyena packs, using up 14% of the initial funds. (In retrospect, it might have been better to "fence" only the 2 northernmost packs, which would have cut the expense to less than 4% of the initial funds.) 45 vacant lots were placed in the northern housing block, mostly triples in places that 2x2 sub-residence houses would form (which had been discovered by making a "test run"). The fourth vacant lot will be added to each triple (allowing the 2x2 house to form) when appropriate.
In Feb 2246BC, some people arrived, all 4 wood cutters and a firehouse and a storage yard were operational, and the trade route to On was opened. In Mar, reeds and clay were purchased, 2 papyrus makers were operational, a water supply was built, and the "rescue" gift was taken. In Apr, the 3rd and 4th papyrus makers and 2 potters were operational, and some houses had evolved to sturdy hut. In May, the 3rd potter was operational, 3 vacant lots were placed in the northwest housing block, and the trade route to Buhen was opened.
In Jun 2246BC, with funds at less than 100 Db, Buhen bought 800 wood, the trade route to Selima Oasis was opened, and the recruiter was built. In Jul, Selima bought 400 papyrus and 200 pottery, and an archer fort was built. In Oct, the military academy was built. (I didn't like having 6 non-academy-trained archers, but thought that that was better than having 6 fewer archers.) In Dec, the trade route to Byblos was opened. (Perhaps the Byblos trade route could have waited until later, but I wanted at least a few infantry.) The year ended with 236 Db and 445 people.
In Jan 2245BC, the population reached 447 people, where it stayed for a while. In Feb, 400 copper was purchased and 2 weaponsmiths were operational. (No more copper would be purchased for a while.) In Mar, the 2nd archer fort was built, a gem mine was operational, and the trade route to Buhen shut down (no more wood sales!). In Apr, the 1st infantry fort was built. In May a request for 60 weapons was received, which (obviously) could not be afforded. In Jul, a jeweler was operational, which was all the industry and military possible with 202 workers.
In Aug 2245BC, a Bedouin army attacked, which was defeated in Oct (by 4 infantry and 16 archers) without casualties. (I tried fighting them with just archers, and took a lot of casualties. Perhaps the archers would have done better with police help, but I didn't want to build police stations at that time.) In Oct, the wood industry was turned off (there was 2400 wood in storage yards) and the 2nd gem mine was operational. In Nov, the 2nd jeweler was operational, 100 more copper was purchased, the victorious archers began killing the hyenas (but not the pack near the lake), and a new trade route to Saqqara was opened (more wood sales before the end of the year!). In Dec, the 3rd gem mine was operational, which again was all the industry and military possible (with the wood industry turned off). The year ended with 387 Db and 447 people.
In Mar 2244BC, the 3rd archer fort was built. In Apr, with close to enough money to build a temple complex and 2 temples, lots more vacant lots were placed, mainly in the northwest housing block. (More vacant lots will be added later.) In May, the 3rd jeweler was operational, and Seth's temple complex and temples to Ra and Ptah were built. (Another temple to Ra and shrines to Ra and Ptah will be built later, as needed.) In Jun, the 4th jeweler was operational and copper purchases resumed. (At this point there were 37 archers and 5 infantry.) In Aug, the 2nd water supply was built. In Oct, a request for 1200 game meat was received, and 2 hunting lodges and the 3rd weaponsmith were operational. In Dec, a request for 12 granite was received. The year ended with 7 Db and 713 people.
In Feb 2243BC, the requested game meat was dispatched, and the 4th and 5th gem mines and the 5th jeweler and 2 granite quarries were operational.
In May 2243, a Bedouin army attacked, which was defeated in Jul (by 16 infantry and 47 archers) with casualties of 3 archers. In Jun, 2 bazaars (in the north housing block), the granary, and the 2nd infantry fort were built. In Aug, the festival square was built and some houses evolved to rough cottage. After waiting 3.5 years, people finally got food! In Sep, the requested granite was dispatched, and disease risk was high in some houses so the 2 physicians were built. (Apparently, a small population limits disease risk, but with around 800 people it appeared to be getting dangerous.) In Oct, the first of several festivals for Seth was held, and the wood industry was turned back on. In Nov, the 3rd granite quarry was operational. In Dec, the first of several festivals for Ra was held, and the mansion was built (with salary set to 0). The year ended with 243 Db and 1003 people.
In Jan 2242BC, the 3rd, 4th, and 5th hunting lodges were operational, and the 1st of 2 bridges across the river in the south (for hunters) was built. In Feb, the 6th and 7th hunting lodges and the 6th and 7th gem mines were operational, and the 3rd and 4th bazaars (in the northwest housing block) and a juggler school and a booth (in the north housing block) were built. (At this point, I decided to build another granite quarry instead of another hunting lodge, to accumulate granite for the obelisk faster.) In Mar, the trade route to Henen-nesw was opened, flax was purchased, the 4th granite quarry and the 8th gem mine were operational, some houses in the north block evolved to ordinary cottage, and houses in the northwest housing block started to get food. In Apr, the 2 weavers were operational. In May, the 3rd infantry fort was built, and the 6th and 7th jewelers were operational. In Jun, the first of several "protect soldiers in far-off lands" blessings from Seth was received, and the 8th and 9th jewelers were operational. All planned export industries were now running.
In Jul 2242BC, the 2nd booth (in the northwest block) was built. In Aug, the first of several "lifts your reputation somewhat" blessings from Ra was received. Before Nov, the trade route to Men-Nefer was opened and chickpeas were purchased (for consumption later). Around this time, the worker shortage became small enough so that I could give Infrastructure a higher priority and juggle other priorities much less frequently. Almost 5 years of continuous detailed micromanagement of labor priorities is enough! In Dec, a pavilion (in the northwest housing block) was built to enhance desirability, and all existing houses were ordinary cottages (although more vacant lots would be placed the next month). The year ended with 88 Db and 1569 people.
In Jan 2241BC, the 2 courthouses, the dance school, and the 2nd pavilion (in the north housing block) were built. In Feb, some houses in the north block evolved to spacious homestead. In Mar, some beer was purchased, the 5th bazaar (on the edge of the north housing block) and a school (in the north housing block) were built. In Apr, the palace and the 2 tax collectors were built, the tax rate was raised (as was the wage rate, to compensate somewhat), and some houses in the north block evolved to common residence. In May, a conservatory (in the north housing block) was built, and some houses in the north block evolved to spacious residence.
In Jun 2241BC, a Kushite army attacked, so a defensive road with 15 police stations was quickly built, and the invaders were defeated in Sep (by 48 infantry, 48 archers, and the police) with casualties of 17 infantry and a police station. In Aug, some houses in the north block evolved to fancy residence, 2 of them to common manor. In Oct, a request for 1400 game meat was received and it was immediately dispatched, and the 2 carpenter guilds were built. In Nov, the worker shortage was small enough so a 3rd fancy residence was evolved to common manor. In Dec, a request for 10 granite was received. The year ended with 790 Db and 2587 people.
In Jan 2240BC, the 3rd pavilion was built, some houses in the northwest block evolved to spacious homestead, and the last vacant lots were placed (in the northwest block) as triples in places were 2x2 sub-residence houses won't form. Where necessary, small statues or bits of road will prevent those new houses from prematurely evolving into residences. In Feb, the (incomplete) obelisk, the mortuary, the 2nd school, a bandstand (in the northwest housing block), the 2nd juggler school, and the 3rd booth were built. Some of those (and subsequent) buildings were mainly built to take workers away from Education (and possibly Health and Sanitation) so that papyrus (and possibly linen) consumption would be reduced. In Mar, 15 more police stations (including a replacement for the one that was destroyed by Kushites) were built, and some of the houses in the northwest block evolved to common residence. In Apr, the requested granite was dispatched, the library was built, and the manors evolved to spacious manor. In May, 18 more police stations were built, the manors evolved to elegant manor, and a "trade more" blessing from Ra was finally received. The extra money (from extra wood sales) was appreciated, but it would have been a lot more useful earlier!
In Jul 2240BC, 11 more police stations were built (for a total of 58), the carpenters finished the scaffolding on the obelisk, and the stonemason guild was built. (If the stonemason guild had already been built then victory would be achieved a month earlier, but I didn't want victory until Prosperity reached 100.) In Sep, the senet house was built. In Oct, a new trade route to Dakhla Oasis was opened (mainly to sell granite), an unplanned 10th jeweler (since Dakhla also buys jewelry) and the 2nd bandstand and 2nd conservatory were built, and 2 of the manors evolved to stately manor. All staffed buildings were now constructed. In Nov, the last worker shortage (for around 12 years, anyway) disappeared. In Dec, Anubis's altar was built (mainly to look good). The year ended with 1640 Db and 3766 people.
In Jan 2239BC, the Kingdom Road was connected, Sekhmet's oracle was built (just to look good), "beautification" was finished, the last house evolved to common residence, and the 3rd manor evolved to stately manor. All houses were now in their final form, with 135 vacancies. In Mar, the game was saved for the Downloads, then the obelisk completed. In Apr, victory was declared, with these results:
Culture: 70
Prosperity: 100
Kingdom: 98
Funds: 6423
Population: 3870
Months: 87
Level: Very Hard
Score: 7176
If anyone cares about the score, governing for 2 extra years raises it to about 19000. The population stabilizes at 3964 around the end of the year. Just for fun, I deleted the stonemason guild before victory and ran the game for 12 more years, doing nothing except dispatching those requests that were possible (the one for sandstone was not), defeating invasions, and replacing destroyed police stations. The later Kushite invasions were defeated with fewer casualties, perhaps because the troops had more experience.
