The Destiny of Cao - Singleplayer Emperor Campaign

Age: Steel
# of Episodes: 4
# of Cities: 2
Difficulty: Hard
Custom Maps: No
Minimap:
This campaign is an attempt to take events from the famous historical novel 'Romance of the Three Kingdoms' and incorporate them into the Emperor campaign model. A player relives the career of the famous general Cao Cao, who built a faction that eventually succeeded in conquering all of China and achieving reunification. The missions in the campaign are partitioned to correspond to actual events in Cao Cao's life. This campaign has an overall difficulty level of 'hard'. This is due to the 'time limit'
mission goal on 3 of the missions and the aggressive military challenges a player will face. This campaign is definitely for the experienced Emperor player who likes the game's military aspect. The R3K period was all about military strategy and diplomacy and this campaign strives mightily to reflect this theme. Be sure to read the CaoReadme.txt file that comes in the download package, as it contains extensive campaign designer notes, historical commentary, and mission hints (warning: it's full of spoilers).

Since it appears people are still downloading this old campaign, I thought I would add some additional background information.

This was the first campaign I built for Emperor. It was a training tool for me, sort of a self-tutorial for using the Campaign Creator software, and I know it is not up to the standards of the other campaigns I've submitted. I hadn't even learned to use the map editor at the time I submitted this campaign, which is why it doesn't have custom maps.

There are quite a bit of historical oversights in this campaign, and the R3K storyline is condensed. Most of this is corrected in 'The Destiny of Cao Version 2', and the storyline is enhanced to follow the book more closely.

Still, I think you can find some fun in this little campaign.

Playability: 4
Felt like a tutorial in a round about way, which made it the most fun. I understand this was the first campaign of the designer, and the first one played by myself outside of those made available by the game makers. While rated as hard, beginners would find this an achievable campaign.

Balance: 3
It is not overbearing in the tasks or time limits needed for completion. The final mission allows the player to put it all together without a time limit.

Creativity: 3
For the first attempt at a campaign it did its job well.

Map Design: 3
Though the maps used where not custom made. I liked the choices

Story/Instructions: 5
This is about the best part of the designer’s submission. The read me text is 5star.

Additional Comments:
Advanced players might not care for this campaign if they like really tough challenges, but I truly feel that anyone looking to try something after finishing the campaigns that came preloaded would enjoy and expand their game play.
