Spring and Autumn Weather

Most trusted advisor, it seems nothing can stop the detestable Xiongnu. Despite strenuous efforts to halt their forays into the Ordos, they managed to break through — and now our once proud city of Hao has been ignominiously sacked! It seems the soldiers did not rally when the beacon fires were lit, as too many times before King You had them fired just to see the smile on the face of a petulant concubine. You Wang now lies dead in the ashes of Hao and our new regent, Ping Wang, fears for his life. For this reason, the capital is moving eastward.
It is your good fortune, noble commissioner, that engineers have already constructed strong defenses at Loyi. However, the site for a Temple Complex must still be staked out. More income from trade can be had by striking coins at the mint, and soldiers armed with powerful crossbows can now protect the city. Nutritious soybeans will supplement your citizens’ diet. The river provides tasty fish, but also a certain danger, as heavy spring rains can cause flash floods

Requirements:

  • Population of 3200
  • 50 in Humble Compound
  • Temple Complex

The map for this mission comes with a large walled and moated compound in place. You don’t have to build within it but it did seem the obvious place for my housing. With goals of a 3200 people and 50 in Humble Compound I decided to build 2 blocks of housing. One consisting of just common housing and the other a mix of common and elite housing. A minimum of 4 elite houses would be needed, I built 5.

The first thing I did was build the 1st, common housing only, block. I then developed food, fish, soybean and wheat, and hemp. 2 jade carvers were my first industry followed by woodcutters both so I could sell the wood and for tax. Selling jade carvings and wood combined with taxes was enough to start getting some money in just before I went into debt.

By now I had enough employees to place the Temple Complex and start logging wood for it. I chose to build it outside the city walls in the east as there were plenty of trees there plus open space for the Temple.

A bronze and bronzeware industry in the northeast was the next industry started. My trading stations were within the city walls so getting warehouses were needed to collect bronzeware for sale. This takes a bit of micromanagement but I wanted to import jade/salt from these trading stations, and jade carvings were sold to a water route, so somebody was going to have to collect something no matter where I built them. Also if I had built them up near the bronze smelters the traders would have had to walk a lot further meaning less traders per year and its possible I may not have been able to sell the full amount each year that way.

At the start of the mission Anyang and Qufu were trading, but no other cities would agree to trade. In 768 after giving Anyi a gift of cash they agreed to open trade. I sold them bronzeware and ceramics and bought salt from them which allowed my Elite houses to evolve to Humble Compounds meeting that goal. I also gave Yulin a gift of 8 silk and they then also agreed to trade, so I was able to sell them silk and weapons.

The Temple Complex was the last goal met, finally being finished in December 767. By then I had a population of 4296 with 75 in Humble Compound and a treasury of 33149.
