Some people just can't seem to wait for the Empires expansion to come out with whatever it has, so I've decided to see what people would like in it. It could be new epochs, new units, new civs, new campaigns, just whatever. My ideas are...

New Epoch:
Vietnam War

New Civs:
Vietnam (North and South) (Vietnam War)
Italy (WW2)
Japan (WW2)
Arabs (Medieval Age)

New Campaigns:
The Vietnam War
Pacific Campaign

I just wanna find out what people are thinking and how good there ideas are.

Not bad of an idea. But Korea is sort of Medieval Japan, with the samurais and all.

I'd rather have a classical age than a more modern age

I'd rather have the epoch be the Cold War rather than an age focused on Viet Nam, as much of both sides' [Russia, US] top technology wasn't even deployed in that war.

Although something like how the Japanese were done in that Korean campaign could easily make for a campaign of the Viet Nam war [i.e.; not a whole new side by a few unique units]

I'm currently working on a little thing for units I'd like to see in a Cold War age.

Some thoughts ... I'm planning to assemble more for other nations.

Union of Soviet Socialist Republics: Cold War (Attempted to remain in 1946-1979)

Air -
Fighter: Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21 or MiG-23
Bomber: Tu-22M or Tu-95 (Everyone loves it :P)
Ground Attack Aircraft: MiG-23(7) B/E/G / AT: Sukhoi Su-25
Attack Helicopter: (This could be a Russian Speical, as the Mi-24 does both) Mil Mi-24
Transport Helicopter: Mi-8

Tanks Ect -
MBT - T-64 or T-72 [Which is just and upgraded version, bah]
IFV - BMP-1 (Could be a special unit) or BTR-60
AT (If not replaced by Helo) - BRDM with AT-5
Artillery - Towed: D-30 [M1963] / Mechanized: 2S3 [M1973]
(Special of 9P140 or BM-21/25?)

Infantry -
Rifleman [Conscripted] (AK47)
Support Infantry (RPK-74 or PKB/PKBM)
Special: SA-7? (Cold War Special, Americans would get Stinger in “modern”)

The United States of America: Cold War (1946-1979)

Air -
Fighter: F-4E
Bomber: B-52H (You’ve got to love’em once again)
Ground Attack: F-111F / AT: A10
Attack Helicopter: AH-1G
Transport Helicopter: CH-47D
Specials: Some sort of Tanker aircraft? So planes could remain in the air longer? Or AC-130s/C-130s

Tanks Ect -
MBT: M60A1
IFV[Battletaxi]: M113A1
AT (If not...) - ???
Artillery - Towed: M102 / Mechanized: M109A3(?) or M110A2

Infantry -
Rifleman [Draft/Voluntary] (M16)
Support Infantry (M60)
Special: M72 Anti-Tank ?

This is assuming Modern would be like 1980 - 2000, otherwise many things should be replaced in my list. Example: M1 entered the field in 1980.

my thing against modern ages is balancing
if sssi make the us too strong (so you can basically reenact oif with the same number of casualties), people will whine
but if you make the us more balanced (so you take maybe 2x at least the # of casualties reenacting oif), people will probably whine that its not realistic

don't get me wrong, if they made an expansion with modern, I'd get it. I just worry about about balancing and stuff

The infantry of the nations would be about equal, and for the US "ubertech" it could be simply something like a 2:1 ratio but the US equipment cost twice as much. That is of course in very basic terms, and balancing would be needed. Then again nations like Britain have an equally powerful tank, France as well, kind of.

Yeah.

"This is Mojo two to base over. We have encountered iraqi anti air over. Amount of peasants with AK-47's: ten. Over."

"Roger that mojo two, you have permission to run them over."

(i just got ran over by a chopper in BF1942...with the Desert Combat mod...i was an iraqi with an AK-47

Well, for AA, iraq has mostly conscripted peasants with AK-47s.

They also have that for any other army branch.

I think a Japan civ is one of the most viable options available to SSSI for any expansion pack.

It could be like this:

Medieval-Imperial: Imperial Japan
WW1-WW2: Japan

For medieval units, you already have the scenario-editor-only infantry and cavalry such as the Ashigaru (basic gunpowder infantry), the Samurai (heavy infantry) and the Mounted Samurai. You also have the spear units, and it wouldn't be hard to make some naval forces.

For the more modern Japan, infantry could have a special ability that makes them invisible when not attacking or moving, to simulate the stealthy tactics that their infantry used, or a bayonet-charge stance that decreases their armour and forces them to melee but makes their speed and attack become radically higher.

Planes could have a Kamikaze attack against land and sea units (stereotypical, I know ) that causes the plane to explode with area-effect damage around a certain unit.

Tanks would be fairly weak hitpoint-wise, but with a fairly good attack, and you could throw in some nice naval units for good measure.

Overall, the most viable new-civ option for an expansion.

They should have different types of City Buildings in the editor. That way, you could make a more metropolis city.

the editor needs more sandbox units and buildings and heroes and gaia objects, plus they need to resize the area some things take up (crates take up basically an entire tile!)

When I said "Infantry" I meant nations like Britain, not Iraq. Although ... [evil grin thinking of a special ability]

About those Japanese tanks, yes, I'm sure those Japanese tanks did a lot of good with their 37mm cannons when the Russians came over the border in IS-2s [122mm gun]. :P
