This is the "Can I run ETW" thread.
Please post either your DxDiag (Go to start > run > DxDiag, save then upload). Or post the detailed specs of your pc.

And have a fantastic day!

Perhaps, you should repost the min specs in the OP.

I'm not entirely convinced this thread is needed as the majority of forummers are asking in the Min. Spec thread. I'll leave it open for now and see how it goes.

Just an idea, I thought that eventually that thread will be sought after and loose views, and this thread would become a sticky until launch. If you don't think it's nessecary, you may close it.

crud, i just found out i have a 2.20 ghz ram
and it requires 2.40
so now i have a question, the limit says "2.2GHZ single core)
but i have the"2.2 ghz double core"
whats the difference? would that allow an edge or am i still stuck?
posted 12-04-08 06:17 PM EDT (US)     5 / 350
No you're fine, double core is basically a single core times two. I assume that ETW will be coded for multi-core systems, so what your CPU will do is split each core. So you will have about 4.4ghz.

(I wonder what my quadcore will be like...)

I have a quad core. its sweet, but yeah this thread is unnesscesary or however you spell it

it will be on the lowest graphics possible
and i'll need to avoid navy battles and bigger battles
but i should be able to get the main thing working

Yeah who knows how it will run, but you do squeeze by on the minimum.

I doubt it will run but what do you guys think?

Windows XP Professional SP2
Processor: Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.40GHz
1534 MB Ram
Direct X 9.0c
ATI Radeon 9250 (Aprox Total Memory 256MB)

I'm sure im going to need upgrades, but im not really sure in which sections...

More RAM and upgrade your GPU.

so im wondering
i pass the GHz 4.40 (or a 2.20 dual core)
i have 1.87 of ram
and 700 mb graphics

so if i upgrade anything it should be a graphics card right?

well what is your graphics card, sir?

when you buy your new graphics card, make sure you properly install it... messing around with that stuff would be a bad idea. failed gfx card fails the entire cpu.

Incorrect Spartan!

Jomas,

Find out if you are on AGP or PCI x16, then you can shop at newegg.com and search for a card that fits that expansion slot. In theory, if you find a card that uses PCI x16, or AGP, it will run fine. On some occasions a GPU requires high power voltage (ie. 12v), but if you get a mainstream GPU you really shouldn't have problems.

If you have a wrong video card, nothing will really happen. You might not be able to see the video properly, or perhaps it might blue screen... Your CPU won't be harmed.

I'm hoping that the dual core part will save my cpu - a good old althlon 64 x2 3800. It's only 2ghz ish but I guess that should be enough...

Currently I've got an old graphics card too (6600GT) but plan to be getting a nice shiny new one shortly
posted 12-06-08 10:07 AM EDT (US)     20 / 350
Should be fine, make sure ETW will be set to both affinities, and you might want to up the CPU usage for ETW. Make sure that the new GPU you get won't be bottlenecking on the CPU.

im asumming my current laptop with a 1.87 ghz processor won't be up to scratch, especially as the site says minimun is 2.4, it has everything else needed but i know it's not easy to ghange laptops - if someone knows differently please say.

For getting a new pc, would a dual 1gb ram do in place of a 2gb ram? (ill be getting vista)

any recomendations of a cheap pc that will do the job?
posted 12-06-08 08:37 PM EDT (US)     22 / 350
Recommended for vista:

2.4Ghz dual core (single core would be choking)
4Gigs of ram, being able to play with large armies is the only way to go!
8 series GPU's or higher (Nvidia), 7 series will work, however the graphics will be lacking and you will more than likely experience graphic lag (if not on the 7800GTX)

From experience, my current pc can play a 6000 man battle on MTW2 with little graphic lag, I will expect the same from ETW except a bit smaller of armies. I am assuming that your laptop barely cuts the minimum if you CPU is not above 2ghz.

So i suggest either you do extensive laptop upgrades, or build a new desktop.

What system requirements would i need to play ETW with decent-High settings? Can anybody recomend a good graphics card?
posted 12-07-08 00:37 AM EDT (US)     24 / 350
Clark:

Are you on PCI x16? 2.0? AGP? (Expansion slots)

Decent-high settings graphics wise would require probably an 8800GT or higher, I can imagine that maybe a few 8600's would do that job. If your an ATI kind of guy, Probably a 3870 (Double check on that model).

Preferably, I have always used NVidia for gaming, their cards never let me down. What kind of money are you looking to spend? There are REALLY good deals right now for the 9 series GPU's on newegg in the $100-200 range, the 9800GT i have right now I got for about $120, normally sells for 160'ish.

You can expect to be able to run ETW2 on high/max settings with huge scale (i am basing this off of what I currently know about ETW, also basing these standards off of in-game screenshots), with at least 3 gigs of high-pref ram, and no, ram is not just ram. A GPU with at least 512MB Vram, and probably stream processors, the new floral system looks like it would shoot pixel pipe lines through the roof.
Relatively fast CPU's will help speed up extensive loading times, do to new graphic engine they probably have done some extensive coding work to help rebuild a more stable and complete loading process.

OK here's my specs.

Intel (R) Core 2 Quad 2.40GHz

2GB RAM.

ATI Radeon HD 2400

My computer is Vista so has DX10.

Where it say Core 2 does that mean it's a dual core?

Core 2 Duo is a name for a series of processors made by Intel. It doesn't necessarily mean dual-core, a Core 2 Quad like you have is a processor with four cores. Your processor will be able to handle ETW. The same goes for your RAM, 2 GB will be enough to run ETW.

I think your graphics card is good enough as well, but I"m not entirely sure. Could you post how much memory it has got? (Go to Start » Run Type "dxdiag" and hit enter, go to the third tab in the window that has been opened.)

It says 2046RAM memory overall, but as I read further it says:

Avaliable Physical Memory: 926.86MB

Total Virtual Memory: 4.21GB

Avaliable Virtual Memory 2.63GB.

Now I have PC games such as Pro Evolution Soccer 2009, Brothers In Arms: Hell's Highway, Fifa 2009, FarCry 2 and Rome Total War which when Empire comes out I will uninstall every one of those games. If I take out all five games how much memory will that leave me?

General Rawlinson- This is most unsatisfactory. Where are the Sherwood Foresters? Where are the East Lancashires on the right?

Did you look under the "Display" tab? That will tell you how much memory your graphics card has got. That is what you need to know. I think you looked under the "System" tab, which tells you how much RAM (which is a different type of memory) you've got. This is what the display tab (thus the one you need) looks like.

Upgrade graphics card, first you have to find out if you can use AGP or PCI graphic cards. Then go to newegg.com and find your way to the graphic card section. (On the drop down menu)
There you have dozens of vendors listing various makes and models for graphic cards.

If you are on PCI x16/2.0 NVidia's 8 or 9 series graphic cards will do, you can go to the NVidia 2 series (260/280) if you are willing to dish out the money.

The system requirements say you need at least a 256 MB graphics card and a 2.5 GHz processor, so yes, you should be able to run ETW, if only just. I'm not giving any guarantees tough; other programs will also take up some of your CPU capacity so they could prevent ETW from running properly.

Yes tomshardware is a good source for looking at reviews for hardware, along with newegg and its review base it is easy to get an accurate picture of the card you are looking at.

Read my first post in the thread,

go to start > run > Type in "DxDiag"
then save that and upload into your post

So I know, ideally, that I'd get a bunch of upgrades for my laptop to run an amazing-looking E:TW, but I'm really just concerned that I can run it with what I have.

I know other people have been worrying about their CPUs, I have a similar sort of question. My dxdiag says:
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU T7200 @ 2.00GHz (2 CPUs), ~2.0GHz
Both myself and a friend of mine who's probably a bit more knowledgeable agree that this means my total processing power is ~2.0 GHz. However, he said I should still be ok, since "dual cores rape single cores".

I have Vista, so I can tell you that my CPU's rating on the Windows Experience Index is a 4.9 (out of six, I think). I can run RTW on high and M2TW on medium/high (without anti-aliasing ...and shadows), and Company of Heroes on medium (with same restrictions).

I hope I haven't flooded you with too much information, thanks for the assistance.

As far as I can find out the T7200 has got two cores with 2.0 GHz each, so I think the 2.0 GHz DirectX is showing is the capacity for one core rather than for two cores.
