Topic Subject: Something to do with maps? - FIXED
« Previous Page  1 2  Next Page »
posted 05-16-06 12:03 PM EDT (US)
I've had this game a full 24 hours without being able to play because of the following issue(s):

When starting a Quick Battle, I can't change any settings at all. The map selection is blank and cannot be changed, the number of players is locked at 1v1, and starting a battle results in the game requesting that you download the default 2 player random map. The map is in the directory, but the game refuses to find it. After this error, the message "Setup Data is not valid" pops up, and the game dumps to the main menu.

In addition, the campaign runs fine until I actually begin a scenario, when the game just dumps me back to the campaign intro.

These are some crazy bugs, to be sure. Anyone have a clue as to what can be done?

specs:
WinXP SP2
Athlon64 X2 3800+
1GB Mushkin DDR400
GeForce 6800GT

have you tried reinstalling?

Yeah like 5 times now. It' is always the same.

Make sure you don't have the Demo installed, I think that if you do, it will not work as intended.

This happened to me too.
I don't have the demo installed now.
I uninstalled and reinstalled RoL
in the default location and I still
can't see the maps.
The maps look like they are there in the directory.
It's like something is pointing to the wrong location.

Help!?

I have the same problem, and the game installed on a friends computer fine. I also noticed that the number circle to the left of the maps that tells how many players can be on a map ALL of them either always say 8 or always 7, and then the name has the real map player number: (5)mapname.map
also adding players doesnt work.
can someone please help us, ive been researching this for hours and i cant find a solution!

YOU HAVE TO PATCH IT FIRST!

Any other suggestions then patching to the latest version?

As of today I have the latest version and it doesn't address this issue. I am having the exact problem as others still.

Has anyone tried uninstalling the demo, then running a registry cleaner (e.g. www.ccleaner.com)? Maybe that might help.

Hello... having the same problem here!
Has anyone been able to solve this yet?
posted 06-01-06 11:01 AM EDT (US)     13 / 30
I have the same problem, maps gone before any updates, for quick and online battles. No demo versions have ever been installed.

The cure seems to be install to a custom directory on another PC.
Once the maps are lost (only happened to me using the default install directory) no amount of uninstall/reinstall seems to cure it.

I have now installed faultlessly to two other PCs using custom directories.
I am assuming the original "install" does not have any directory specified on the "default" setting for the maps.

do you mean if i would install a new system to my pc and change the install.dir to an selfnamed folder, the map problem would be solved and the game will run?
i am anyway not able to uninstall it because i dont run WINxp
i also didnt install any demoversion but i tried to run it under WIN2K (YES its possible u need to go to start - run - and type cmd - type d: for your cd ,return and type setup /a
you wont be able to change install options but the directory.
oh ... u would need an win2kloader.rar

so first time installation with selfnamed folder is the solution???

I too have this problem. I have done fresh installs on 3 drives on computer 1 and 1 install on computer 2 .. Problem is computer 2 does not meet minimum requirements and thats the one that worked!!

I have even tried to copy all files from computer 2 to computer 1 and that did not fix the problem.

Comp 1 specs:

P4 2.8
2 gigs ram
ati 850xl
3 hard drives

comp 2 specs:
p3 1000
768 megs ram
nvidia 4200gt
1 hard drive

edit:

and yes, i have patched it

i did install it under win2k so i thought that is the problem but i guess you guys using xp right? because of win2k i am not able to uninstall it through add-remove but to delte the folder itself
is there a possibility to uninstall it correctly under win2k?
anyway how can this problem be??? i dont get it... why some guys have it and some not... is the problem maybe solved by using another cd with another serial????????

I have the exact same problem - in Quick Battle all of the maps are listed, but when I click a map it says "no map selected," and when I click ok the map name is not shown next to the folder icon in the upper-right.

Also, if I check the "alphabetical sort" button, all the map names disappear. I have uninstalled and reinstalled, and also copied the entire game folder from someone else that has the game running successfully, but neither helped.

Has anyone found a solution to this problem yet? I compared my setup to the person's who is working, and they seem to be the same. What could be causing it?

Ok ppl EVERYTHING is gonna NEED to be upgraded to get this WHOLE game to work properly

#1 Update Windows to the fullest extent, I would suggest WinXP but if you don't have it get as many updates as they have for 2k or whatever version.

#2 DirectX 9.0c, Get it or you ain't playin nothing

#3 Update Audio and Video Drivers this'll help with any video or audio stuttering or issues.

#4 Windows Media Player 10, I had sound problems til I got this and now everything works fine including a few missing cutscenes I never saw (the CGI variety.

#5 Even if you don't play online You NEED to update to 1.5

IF big if Even all this does not get the game working then perhaps you don't meet one of the requirements
Also if yer using 56k to play online go and shoot yourself in the foot please lol

Could someone please tell me where to get the 1.5 patch?

I see the patch notes on Big Huge Games' site here http://www.bighugegames.com/riseoflegends/patchnotes.html and the Microsoft Rise of Legends home page is here http://www.microsoft.com/games/riseoflegends/, but I don't see where to download the patch anywhere. I also looked on the Big Huge Games' Downloads and Support sections, and it's not there either.

Have a look at this thread:

http://rol.heavengames.com/cgi-bin/forums/display.cgi?action=ct&f=2,474,,10

I have the same problem with the game RoL. The steps I have already done:

- completely remove and reinstall the game (including registry information)
- create a new user account and start the game
- install MSXML 4.0 SP2
- install with "setup /a" and start the EXE file from the new folder
- format hdd and reinstall windows

Here is my log file:

But what does this message mean??? The map-files that are missing are in the folder \Rise Of Legends\campaigns\Vinci\maps

I the single player mode i get the same message and i can not select some maps. But the maps are in the /MAPS folder in the game.

i had a support case with microsoft with this problem and i fixed it by installing vista beta 2 on one of my extra drives. it worked but i dont really consider installing a new OS as a fix to buggy software. But once i told microsoft that i could play the game.. even though my sound drivers are in beta stages they closed the case because they belived the issue fixed.

so, i guess an unofficial fix is to install a new os but you have to really be desparate to try that.

I GOT IT MEN !!!
I GOT IT !!!!

But you won't like it

I tried all the stuff advised by various nice souls :
- MSXML v4 -> crap
- Uninstall/Install -> crap
- Patching -> ...

Only ONE trick worked for me :

===> UnInstall/ReInstall the *$!@^ SP2 <===

I'm afraid that means the problem could be solve much more simply, but you surely know as well as I do that all other tricks fail ...

Kindly yours, DrouydE. (Have a nice game )
