Hi.
I've finally got round to posting this. This will tell you how to set up the helptext for editing to work in Multiplayer.
I'm going to assume you know how to open files in Notepad.
Step 1 will deal with the bigmanifest.xml file modding
Step 2 will setup help.xml
Step 3 will be a few pointers
STEP 1
Browse to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Rise Of Legends
Open bigmanifest.xml (in notepad)
Press Control+F and enter in the dialog box that pops up MULTIPLAYER
Now press find next
Next, scroll down a little bit more. You will see this section of code.
<!--MULTIPLAYER-->
<BIG file="mod_data.big">
<ENTRY name=".\data\rules.xml" type="bxml" check_timestamp_against_orig_single_only="1"/>
<ENTRY name=".\data\tribes\*.xml" type="bxml" check_timestamp_against_orig_single_only="1"/>
<ENTRY name=".\data\tribes\ctw\*.xml" type="bxml" check_timestamp_against_orig_single_only="1"/>
<ENTRY name=".\data\buildingrules.xml" check_timestamp_against_orig_single_only="1"/>
<ENTRY name=".\data\craftrules.xml" check_timestamp_against_orig_single_only="1"/>
<ENTRY name=".\data\itemrules.xml" check_timestamp_against_orig_single_only="1"/>
<ENTRY name=".\data\help.xml" check_timestamp_against_orig_single_only="1"/>
<ENTRY name=".\data\rarerules.xml" check_timestamp_against_orig_single_only="1"/>
<ENTRY name=".\data\resourcerules.xml" check_timestamp_against_orig_single_only="1"/>
<ENTRY name=".\data\rules.xml" check_timestamp_against_orig_single_only="1"/>
<ENTRY name=".\data\techrules.xml" check_timestamp_against_orig_single_only="1"/>
<ENTRY name=".\data\unitrules.xml" check_timestamp_against_orig_single_only="1"/>
<ENTRY name=".\data\tips_basic.xml" check_timestamp_against_orig_single_only="1"/>
<ENTRY name=".\data\tips_alim.xml" check_timestamp_against_orig_single_only="1"/>
<ENTRY name=".\data\tips_cuotl.xml" check_timestamp_against_orig_single_only="1"/>
<ENTRY name=".\data\tips_vinci.xml" check_timestamp_against_orig_single_only="1"/>
<ENTRY name=".\data\tips_advanced.xml" check_timestamp_against_orig_single_only="1"/>
<ENTRY name=".\data\spells\*.xml" check_timestamp_against_orig_single_only="1"/>
<ENTRY name=".\data\tribes\*.xml" check_timestamp_against_orig_single_only="1"/>
<ENTRY name=".\data\tribes\ctw\*.xml" check_timestamp_against_orig_single_only="1"/>
</BIG>
Change it to
<!--MULTIPLAYER-->
<BIG file="mod_data.big">
<ENTRY name=".\data\rules.xml" type="bxml"/>
<ENTRY name=".\data\tribes\*.xml" type="bxml" check_timestamp_against_orig_single_only="1"/>
<ENTRY name=".\data\tribes\ctw\*.xml" type="bxml" check_timestamp_against_orig_single_only="1"/>
<ENTRY name=".\data\buildingrules.xml" check_timestamp_against_orig_single_only="1"/>
<ENTRY name=".\data\craftrules.xml" check_timestamp_against_orig_single_only="1"/>
<ENTRY name=".\data\itemrules.xml" check_timestamp_against_orig_single_only="1"/>
<ENTRY name=".\data\help.xml"/>
<ENTRY name=".\data\rarerules.xml" check_timestamp_against_orig_single_only="1"/>
<ENTRY name=".\data\resourcerules.xml" check_timestamp_against_orig_single_only="1"/>
<ENTRY name=".\data\rules.xml" check_timestamp_against_orig_single_only="1"/>
<ENTRY name=".\data\techrules.xml" check_timestamp_against_orig_single_only="1"/>
<ENTRY name=".\data\unitrules.xml" check_timestamp_against_orig_single_only="1"/>
<ENTRY name=".\data\tips_basic.xml" check_timestamp_against_orig_single_only="1"/>
<ENTRY name=".\data\tips_alim.xml" check_timestamp_against_orig_single_only="1"/>
<ENTRY name=".\data\tips_cuotl.xml" check_timestamp_against_orig_single_only="1"/>
<ENTRY name=".\data\tips_vinci.xml" check_timestamp_against_orig_single_only="1"/>
<ENTRY name=".\data\tips_advanced.xml" check_timestamp_against_orig_single_only="1"/>
<ENTRY name=".\data\spells\*.xml" check_timestamp_against_orig_single_only="1"/>
<ENTRY name=".\data\tribes\*.xml" check_timestamp_against_orig_single_only="1"/>
<ENTRY name=".\data\tribes\ctw\*.xml" check_timestamp_against_orig_single_only="1" />
</BIG>
The change is removing check_timestamp_against_orig_single_only="1" from the help.xml entry.For more on the coding, I'll soon have a fuller guide out.
STEP 2
If you haven't already, run Modpack.exe (it's in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Rise Of Legends)
Go into the Data Folder, and open help.xml in Notepad.
STEP 3
Now you can edit it. The easiest way to edit it is to run Rise of Legends and look at the text that exists and search for distinctive words/phrases etc in it.
Good Luck, and please tell people you play if you've modded it before you start.
Thanks,
