The Xiyao
By Shala.
Influences: storm legion, Lord Iarune, GRUNT, Czin_Minion.

The Xiyao are a race from the far eastern parts of Aio. They are a magical race, based on balance and tradition. They class their magic into Yin and Yang, positive and negative elements. Every Xiyao unit is capable of using one or the other, and is linked through balance to another unit. For every Yin unit created, a linked Yang unit is created. The pair shares HP and afflicted conditions. They can be physically seperated as far as needed, but any damage done to one will be done to the other. Similarly, any bonuses given to one will be given to the other. The Xiyao are also home to fierce creatures made from a strong folding material known as Kami. The Xiyao do not have a Master Unit, but have four Guardian (North, South, East and West) units to make up for it. Each of these is approximately 1/3 as powerful as a Master Unit.

Recently, the Emperor has been feeling like he was losing the loyalty of his people. They were calling him weak and unfit to rule. Rumours of an overthrow were frightening him. He decided that it was time to conquer the Western region of Aio, where his advisors have told him that great civilisations lie in a war torn land. If the Emporer can manage to conquer these civilisations, he will control all of Aio and gain the respect of all people. The wiseman Zhai Kilin has advised against it, but has said that he will side with the Emperor nevertheless. General Yi Suy has been ordered to mobilise the Xiyao forces to move westwards. Jin and the rebels have moved ahead in order to warn the people of the West.

Heroes-

Jin the Assassin.
Jin is the leader of a rebel group who want to overthrow the Emperor. He is one of the faster and smaller heroes in the game. All units in his presence get a boost in speed and attack.
-Shurikens - Damages enemy units in a target area.
-Toxicity - Afflicts enemy units in a target area with Toxicity that slowly decreases HP for an amount of time.
-Silent Strike - Deals heavy damage to a single target unit.
-Assassinate - Kills a target unit. Damages Master Units and Heroes by 60% of their total HP.

Zhai Kilin the Keeper of Balance
Zhai Kilin is the wiseman chosen by the gods to protect the balance. He has transformed into a large flying humanoid creature made of light and shadow. He offers no bonuses in the game, but makes up for it with his powers.
-Fire and Water - Damages enemy units in a target area.
-Mind and Muscle - Boosts HP and Attack of friendly units in a radius around Zhai Kilin.
-Sun and Moon - Creates an area of darkness where only allies can see what is happening.
-Life and Death - Heavily damages all units and summons a number of "Revived" warriors in a target area.

Yi Suy the Kami Master
General Yi Suy is the Emperor's right hand man, and a hero of the Xiyao civilisation. He rides atop a Kami steed, similar to a majestic white bull. Units in his vicinity gain a boost in HP.
-Fold - Decreases the Max HP of all enemy units in a target area.
-Kami Crane - Yi Suy creates a large, fast and powerful Kami bird that lasts until killed.
-Pack of Kami Wolves - Yi Suy creates a pack of Kami wolves to attack the enemy that last until the time runs out or until killed.
-Transform - Yi Suy transforms into a gigantic Kami Cavalier for an amount of time with a huge attack and trample.

Buildings-

Mine: A basic mine in Ancient Oriental architecture.
Units Produced: Miner

Pagoda: A large tiered tower that fires at enemy units. The Pagoda also serves as a training area for units.
Units Produced: Black Samurai/White Samurai, Monk of Sol/Monk of Luna

Kami Plantation: The gods have a blessed plant that they have gifted to the Xuyang. From these, Kami is harvested and through the elements, the Kami creatures are created.

Black Samurai (Yin): The basic ranged Xiyao infantry unit. Geared in a black gi. Wields dark shuriken. Created in groups of four, with four White Samurai.
White Samurai (Yang): The basic melee Xiyao infantry unit. Geared in a white gi. Wields a silver katana. Created in groups of four, with four Black Samurai.

Monk of Sol (Yang): A Xiyao healing unit geared in grey-yellow robes that heals all non-Kami units. Created with a Monk of Luna.

Kami Rhino (Yin): A slow and heavy Kami melee unit good at trampling and taking down buildings. Created with a Kami Kirin.
Kami Kirin (Yang): A fast and light Kami melee unit good at attacking larger units. Created with a Kami Rhino.

Kami Zhu (Yin): A Kami flying anti-air unit. Attacks with black shards of Kami. Created with a Kami Peng.
Kami Peng (Yang): A Kami flying air unit. Attacks with white shards of Kami. Created with a Kami Zhu.

Dark Knight (Yin): A vampiric unit that resembles a corpse. It has a ranged attack and has a "Life Drain" ability. Created with a Winged Lion.
Winged Lion (Yang): A large winged dog-like creature that has a powerful melee attack. It also has a "Possess Unit" ability. Created with a Dark Knight.

North: A giant black snake like creature in the shell of a turtle. It is slow moving, but is good against buildings and has a high trample attack. It has a "Withdraw" ability that allows it to hide inside the shell and heal itself.
South: A giant red bird that is good at attacking larger units and aerial units. It has an ability that allows it to reincarnate after it dies for a certain time. The reincarnation does not affect the linked North.

East: A giant flying blue and green dragon that is good at attacking smaller massed units. It has an ability that boosts the attack of all the allied units in a targeted area.
West: A giant white tiger that is generally unspecialised and able to attack anything effectively. It has an ability that allows it to create metal armour around another unit or building, greatly increasing its HP for a limited time.

City Districts-

Military District: Increases population cap. Free Samurai.
Elemental District: Increases HP of all buildings. Increases effects of Nation Power.
Economic District: Increases timonium and wealth income and caps.
Forbidden Palace District: Allows to build more Forbidden Palaces. Used to upgrade the city and its districts.

Nation Power: Gardens of Harmony-
Creates a lush area at a target location for a set duration of time. In this area, attacking cannot take place and all allied units can heal. The size of the garden, the healing rate of the garden, and the duration of the power are improved with Elemental Districts.

1st, we already have 2 flying master units, 2nd the national power could be soo overpowered just by building disctricts, 3rd the units would be too much alike and lacks in unit variety, with only 10 different units, counting the yin/yang counterparts.

Other then that I don't see why not to create it...

The names for the heroes only have vague resemblance to actual chinese names :P. Interesting how you mix Japanese and Chinese stuff together, though :P.

I love Samurai....and this has lots :P.

How are the heroes going to look, though? From what I'm reading, the heroes just sound like humans with extraordinary powers- they need to be visually large onscreen.

Alin heroes are giants, Cuotl heroes pilot massive robots, and the Vinci heroes also are in large vehicles- what'll make the Xuyang's heroes more visually identifiable onscreen?

ack! they're not called Jiangshi!

i'm guessing you made up the name but in real-life according to chinese lore (not myth apparently) there are these fellows:

and this creepy guy

they're called Kyonshi, and the story is something like this:

when a man went far to find work, sometimes he wouldn't come back

so when he died he had to be buried at his home town

so a taoist guy got his corpse set up, wrote some magic on a small vertical iece of paper and strapped it to the man, it dangled from the cap to the chin usually

whenever he rang the bell they would follow him, so he could take more than one without carrying any home

but when they were back they had to be guarded first as was respectable, and also they had to be made sure of keeping their strip of paper stuck on, if it came off then the kyonshi would basically become our vampire, blood sucking guy, victems become kyonshi (no head kyonshi/vampire tho i dont think)

if you knew about this then i can see the resemblance between jiang-shi and kyon-shi, but it's like calling a scorpion a niospion or something

Lol, Shala, I never gave you my permission to do this, but you did it anyway. It doesn't matter though, I was going to give you permission anyway. At least you didn't change it TOO much, and you still used my units and things, but I am disappointed you took out the Twilight Archer. You should at least make the Twilight Monk instead of the Dusk Monk because I liked that unit and intended it to be in there. Anyway, I'm glad you made my faction better.

I also like that you used my basic concept of Yin and Yang and that you kept some of my descriptions in there.

Anyway, I'm going to make a thread called 'The Kahan'. Once again, thanks for giving me credit and not acting like this was all made by yourself. I appreciate you doing that.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I will edit according to the comments

1. The leviathan can be unique in being the only ground based master unit. There is no problem there.
2. I am not worried much about the balance of the nation power, as that can be simply nerfed
3. Feel free to suggest units. I made them as diverse as I could. I will, however, try to think of more units to put in. Also, note that the Vinci have 11 units.

I tried to make an Oriental civ. The Alin cover most of Arabia and the Xuyang would cover most of East Asia. (I hope)
Good point about the heroes. I will do my best to think of a solution.

I tried to make the Yin Samurai like the Twilight Archer

Hey, don't blame me, blame wikipedia! That's where I got the Jiangshii from. Oh yeah, I just realized that the Yin Samurai does sort of reflect my Twilight Archer. Still, I think somehow we should incorporate the word 'twilight' into one of our units. It's just such a cool word.

We have enough already. You're changing my Xuyang a little too much, lol

And the Lhung was meant to be a normal unit, not a Kami one.

Anyway, check out my thread 'The Kahan'. I changed them alot and incorporated the powers of three seasons: Spring, Autumn, and Winter. They're quite interesting now. Their units have also changed.

I got another faction coming up.

i don't want to add a catalyst to this mix, but you're both working under the same tree here, i know at least i've said about the yin-yang thing before (though nothing like this) and plenty have suggested oriental styles. my point being that both of you are branching off the same idea but specialising it in different ways, eg.

say someone invents a more refined version of something, like delves into gluing pieces of wood together to make a better wood overall, and makes plywood, the man or woman with the original idea can't accept responsibility for that idea since it is not theirs, and if they do someone else could go a step further back, so as follows:

1) man gets idea for plywood
2) wood-gluinh idea inventor says it is his idea
3) person who thought of cutting wood says all royalties should go to him as he invented 'wood'

you have to draw the line somewhere, and the best thing is right at the top at 1)

You do realise that you are calling some of your units gods right?

And I still think the next master units has to be a ground one.
The Vinci have only 3 units in the steam fortress, which is not what I wanted to see, I which a new unit was added in a patch...

I haven't called any of the units gods, though I have referred to "gods" somewhere.

storm, that is exactly my point. Lord Iarune created a base for the civ and I added almost everything up there. I am just saying that he is free to take the ideas and change them as he likes so that I can do the same.

Let me know what you guys think of the changes, and what I should change. I'm always looking for unit and building ideas

How are you gonna add the Yin and Yang power into gameplay beside the units?

And the Miners don't need to have yin and yang separate group unless you give each of them special abilities like Yin miners can defend themselves better but harvest less timonium and vice versa to give stragetic desicions on the map to where each group has to mine.

I don't quite understand everything you are trying to say, but if you feel that an Oriental civ won't be fitting in RoL, you are free to have your own opinion. Although, I must remind you that the current three civs are based on Arabia, Italy and Mesoamerica.

Please post more construvtively in future

it's all opinion, personally i prefer asian/african/arabian/oriental to european a lot of the time, they tend to have richer histories and are not so often done

Quote:

this is bordering on an insult buddy

first highlight is just your opinion, and it doesn't make much sense either

second highlight is your opinion but this time it can be beaten by fact - in the siege of Osaka castle there were around 300,000 soldiers present, the castle had something like 30ft high walls, at least three moats, a maze of lanes watched by archers, enough gold and food to last for years and all the weaponry the army required.

that is something to be 'feared'

Quote:

the only ones allowed to have weapons ooo yeah they must of been good ......

would you care to learn about european history first before you say others lack something you never had? in europe if you were a peasant you couldn't kill a knight, if you did then you, your family, your land could be siezed. the peasants did not do more than run around for a bit before letting the knights decide who should win, they were nought more than spectacles to persuade the enemy to run rather than face their knights

Quote:

lets base more units off the lossing race in every war

crusades? europe defeated? you have a problem with games like medieval total war? age of empires? perhaps you think pong's homeland lost a war somewhere and should never have been made? the italians lost plenty of wars yet mario and luigi are everywhere. games like stronghold that are based upon medieval england sold fine, yet they lost way too many wars.

think about what your saying first, the world does not revolve around you and others in the world could say simmilar things that are linked to you yet most of them have managed enough restraint to refrain from being so vain

EDIT: okay... annoyance over i think X|
