I start to play with the Dacians a short campaign - of course, after modifying the corresponding file to make them a playable faction. In fact - I almost finnished this campaign ( hav 14 provinces under control and besiging the last macedonean town, Iīm preety sure that this will fall soon ) - but man ! this is strange !!! And taugh one !!
If anybody interested here - I could give more details.

The Dacians are a tough civ to play as. They seem to have alot of trouble dealing with the Greeks, although, I must say I've never tried to beat it with the Dacians.
Of course itīs a bad option to play with them, but as Romanian, I should try - isnīt it ?
Somekind of ... "patriotical obligation" ... ))
The Greeks ?? No - the major trouble is caused by the Macedonians and ... the Pontus !! If fact - playing with Dacia a short campaign you should control 15 provinces and eliminate Tracians ( preeeetty easy job to do !! ) and Macedonian.

I would think it would be harder to fight the Macedonians. They have a ton of cavalry and when the computer plays well, they also have a line of phalanx pikemen. Basically if you don't have great anti-cavalry units or your own cavalry, you get thashed. Plus, phalanxes aren't easy when you have to fight them head on and have no spearmen. Also, their archers kinda suck.

Er...by Greeks, I mean Greek Cities, Macedon, Thrace, and Seleucid. I consider them all greeks for the most part. Sorry
The strongest factions ( at least in a short campaign ) for Dacians seems to be the Scytians and the Germans - which have similar structure of units/army. But I my game ( finished now - BTW ) the Scythians make pace after I succeded to take two provinces from them and seems busy to fight against the Partians and the Germans ... doesn't appear in the area !
The Macedonians are - on normal/hard level at least - relatively easy to defeat on battle. Their cavalery seems overconfident in charging my warbands infantery, but usually a ratio of 1 warband inf. : 1 light cavalery will resist relatively well and make enemy to rout before enemy infantery ( which is phalanx, but weak one came in to action ). Even that enemy cavalery regroup and come back again in battle, they should be an "normal" opponent for my own light cavalery. And when the infantery units are engaged in fight there is a simple tactics which I used : fix the ennemy hoplites with warbands infantery for some times and, in this period, outflank them with 2 flaxman units ( probably this is intended to be the "historical nobiliar infantery" of Dacians - formed by "tarabostes" and fighting monks ... ) and then launch the decisive charge !
This tactis is excellent because the Macedonians doesn't seems to have decent archers ... so they should attack.
The only problem is that the Macedonians seems to have far more money from the begining and sent to you four or five waves of armies ~1000 man, before I could launch my counter-offensive south of Danube.
In fact the BIG problems in this short campaign seems to be, for me at least : - MONEY !! - Bad managements traits & retinue which my leaders aquire. (
If someone want more details ... I'm here !

Wouldn't it be funny if someone moved the file to let a civilization play the campaign, and it screwed the entire game over?
Ok no that wouldn't but still...
Sounds interesting Ioan
I hated the Dacians, they wouldn't die. But they did.
