How to unlock non-playable factions? (plz tell me soon!)

I hear that with the 1.3 patch this can cause problems, but you have two options. You can either download the "All factions" mod or manually edit descr_strat.txt.

Find the file "...\Rome - Total War\Data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign\descr_strat.txt". Make a backup copy (IMPORTANT!) then open it.

You'll see something like this this:

nonplayable
romans_senate

dacia

All you need to do is change it into this:

Note: one faction needs to stay unplayable. I decide it should be the senate because if you play them opening the senate tab crashes the game.

In order to not cause a CTD when you select a non-playble faction you'll need to make a faction description. That is the 1.3 trouble.

speeking of which how does one play the slaves, whenever I try I my comp crashs

I could play them just fine with 1.2, if you have 1.3 they'll proboably need a description (thanks a lot to lars753 for pointing this out).

The faction description file is in the text folder. Which IIRC is in the data folder.

crash to desktop and after i got BI i tried to play rtw which i had edited the texts to get all factions unlocked and it crashed. I didnt realize that I needed 1 faction to be unplayabe so I reinstalled it. Well thats an hour ill never get back.

Ok thanks Lars, but where are the faction descriptions (I assume it's just a copy paste form another faction and then rename it...)
