I've owned RTW for some time now, but have had it installed on my laptop as my desktop computer didn't have an adequate video card, until recently. I upgraded the card and now can play RTW on my desktop.

So I'm installing it, I get to disc three, and I get an error that goes like this: "Error 1305. Error reading from file E:\Setup\Data\Data\animations\pack.dat. Verify that the file exists and that you can access it." (E is my disc drive, by the way.)

Yeah. Anybody got any help?

Wow, exactly the same error I had when I first installed it last year. Sorry to tell you this, but it's probably a scratched or smudged CD. You could try cleaning it, but you'll most likely have to get an exchange.

Hm, interesting. I looked at the CD, and I can't find a single scratch on it.

But thanks. I can always use the exchange as an opportunity to buy Barbarian Invasion.

I'm assuming the E: is your CDROM drive (you said disk drive), and so the error is reported from the install disk #3 directly.

The error can occur with certain CD/DVD ROM drives, and can usually be fixed by updating the firmware. It can also be a disk defect. Is it possible to check the disk on another physical CDROM drive, preferable a fully updated, recently made Liteon drive, for instance? If the error still occurs, especially if it happens in the exact same spot (e.g., message and file) then the disk is likely bad.

Officially, Activision says:
>1305 error message during install
>
>All background applications must be shutdown prior to running the game.
>Change the DMA setting on the CD-ROM drive.
>Try performing a desktop install.
>
>Try removing and reinstalling InstallShield from your computer.
>Please refer to the InstallShield Page for directions on how to do this.
>This game uses InstallShield version 9.0 and has a file with the
>.msi extension is the same directory as the installer file.
>This information will be relevant on the installshield page linked above.
>
>If you stll have problems then you may have a bad disc.
>Return the game to the store you bought it at for an exchange.

Good hunting ....
