The Durotriges are a spent force. Historically, in 100 BCE they are the main power in Britain, but from the 50s BCE, their power will crumble as the Romans take over the trade routes through Gaul upon which the Durotriges relied. we should try to reflect this in-game.

We have also already decided to give them access to slightly better naval units than the other factions. What form should this take?

For faction colours, I would like them to have something reminiscent of Gaul in RTW vanilla - but that's just me.

I reckon that, other seafaring tribes get converted civilian boats to use, the Durotriges should be the only non-roman faction to get a navy, as in, specialised, permanent, warships

Perhaps they can trade with mainland europe, and get extra money from trade?* Then, a couple of years before the romans invade you can get a message popping up saying trade has been disrupted, and state a few other things.

Also, how about before the romans invade, they can hire a unit that is some kind of "European mercenary". That way we can add at least 1 unit that isn't normally found on the island. Not anything too special, maybe some kind of phalanx troop(From Germania or something)? It is up to you whether they lose access to these units when the romans invade or something.

As for faction colours, I like pink, with little orange circles.

I know nothing about ancient briton, so I can't say too much, but reading the info you gave about them these are a few ideas I could think up.

*Like we said before for something in an earlier thread, we can make a little bit of land on the edge of the map, hidden and unable to find without toggle_fow. Then we can use that island for whatever we want, for trading with this clan, for example.

I don't think any Gauls or Germans were hired to fight the Romans in Britain. Many, especially from the Atrebates and the Durotriges would have been veterans of the Gallic wars in Caesar's invasion. When the Britons are spawned then to fight Caesar, the Atrebates and Durotriges should have a couple of XP chevrons on their units

Is it just my opinion having originated from down that way that the Durotriges were a lot more persistent with the hill fort idea than other sets of people? They had some quite large ones going right up until the end - unlikely to have been wholly for defence (e.g. given the 'tradesman's entrance' to Badbury Rings), although I suppose if they expected the Romans to come at some point maybe the forts were less overkill than otherwise.

From what I've read earlier, I don't think you're changing maps / settlement layouts - if you did then it'd be nice to see some good forts in. My father has done a load of geophys surveys at one of them (Hod) and might be able to provide something like a rough height map if you do plan on making a huge amount of work for yourselves...

Hey, that's right! My opinion of you just rose considerably.

Battle map building models are going to be a nightmare which I really can't see an end to. The best solution I can think of is asking the Europa Barbarorum II team if we can borrow theirs when they're done, otherwise we're screwed. It would be great if we could do some hillfort models, but probably impossible to actually do...

not so much building gates and walls, if you are clever with making earthworks, it could be pulled off

I propose the following unit roster (I can put their names in Brythonic if you like).

- Warrior Militia (basic spear unit; numerous, a little less than average stats, cheap, mediocre morale)
- Handpicked Militia (same idea as above; less numerous, slightly better stats, robust morale)
- Warriors (swordsmen with javelins; the professional warriors, very expensive, not very numerous, boost morale of nearby troops, pretty good stats esp. attack/charge)
- Nobles (armoured swordsmen with javelins; ridiculously expensive, few in number, inspire friendly, strong unit all round)
- Champions (very tough swordsmen; ridiculously expensive, ridiculously few - devastating charge, inspire friends)

- Shepherd Boys (very cheap weak sling unit; pretty good stats, absolutely crap morale, no secondary wp)
- Slingers (cheap basic sling unit; a step up from shepherd boys, the standard slinger unit, spear secondary wp)
- Handpicked Slingers (unique to Durotriges, this should be their speciality; very good sling unit, long range, sword secondary wp)

- Country Riders (light spear cavalry)
- Mounted Nobles (heavy spear cavalry)
- War Chariots (javelin-chariots, very fast and manoeuvrable, vast amounts of ammp)

- Ships (standard naval unit)
- High King's Navy (unique to Durotriges)

Most of these units will be sort of default British units I expect for many factions - if we make too much work we'll never finish.

Thoughts?
