Does academy type buildings, or any other buildings, affect the traits of the generals?
If so which ones are the good ones?

Patience is a virtue.

All types of academies increases the chance for generals/govenors in that city to gain good traits.

Temples of fun, and taverns, are some of the notorious buidlings that can award negative traits to your governors. Temples and academies also are responsible for awarding certain ancillaries... I particularly like:

Imagine getting enough of them to get BtSg to 100, you will never loose a single man!

You can do it in descr_strat.txt, and start a campaign. The julii are easiest to test, since their faction leader is at the beginning of the file.

Certain things are exclusive, and you can add ancillaries in ways that normal in-game play would not allow.

I like using all the movement guys... it works with spies, dips, admirals, and of course generals. You can double the range of your units with traits and ancillaries.

Still can't beat never losing a single man.
