Playables in Campaign: Saxons, Alemanni, Franks, Vandals, Sarmatians, Goths, Huns, WRE, ERE, Sassinid Dynasty.

Playable only in Battles(also appear on campaign map but are unplayable): Celts, Romano British, West Roman Rebels, East Roman Rebels, Lombardy, Burgundii, Berbers, Roxolani, Ostrogoths.

Aren't there slavs or did you use another name for them?

Slaves appear during the game if the circumstances are right. They are not playable.

He didnt mean the rebels, but the slavs, the white-blue people with units identical to the vandals. they are an unplayable spawn faction.

The Slaves are not rebels; they are a late game faction and appear as preset circumstances are met during the game. In my present campaign the Slaves have popped up (info message) though I haven't encountered them yet.

Sorry I said slaves but it is spelled "Slavs". slaves are the same as rebels indeed.

what conditions must me met for slavs to appear. I've played 2 campaigns so far and the slavs appeard both times. are u sure they dont just appear no matter what?

I don't think anybody appears "no matter what". The conditions for them to appear might be very lenient or almost guaranteed to happen, but it's not a "no matter what. If you looked around the files enough I'm sure someone could figure out exactly what the trigger is. Or payed enough attention during the game.

The romano brits, for example, appear when the WERE is pushed off the island. The WRE and ERE rebels are simply revolts by roman settlements, etc.

Yea, I missed the Slavs. Avoid the potential typo of "slaves" since some real life Slavic people find that offensive.

has anyone found a way to unlock slav/romano british for campaign play? - obviously it's not going to work with a quick edit of the desc_strat file as they have no allocated starting territory

so basicaly.... anyone know how you can edit the starting territories to make them playable from the 1st turn of a campaign?

because i REALY wanna play some romano british/saxon campaign action

Well would you believe it! That post was almost grammaticaly correct. Wonders will never cease.

If I were a slav (?) I would be upset that CA has turned them into a germanic faction. To busy to do some actual research I guess.

how do you get it so lomarbi, burgundii and roxolani do not crash? I'm Slavic but do not really care about the inaccuracies

Must be because I'm a rather anal person, then. ;-)

Just to clear up a few things that have arisen in this thread.

There are mods around that open up the Romano-British and other late-appearing factions. However, they do so with varying degrees of success, as it's not simply a matter of moving an emergent faction into the playable list. Emergent factions don't exist until they appear, and trying to initialise them before time can cause crashes.

In reply to one point made earlier: the English word 'slave' (meaning a human held in bondage to do labour) has its roots in the word 'slav', via Norman French.

I detect a note of sarcasm here, but I shall resist any temptation to respond in kind.

I will point out that the Slavs are a nomadic culture faction in BI, while all the 'Germanic' peoples are barbarian culture, so the Slavs aren't Germanic in any sense. They are actually grouped with all the other steppe peoples.

The 'Slave' faction, on the other hand, is a catch-all grouping of all the *rebels* in the game and only used for our internal book-keeping purposes, so their army list includes units from all cultures. However, Slaves and Slavs are different - and you wouldn't believe the amount of trouble we caused ourselves when proofing things by using two almost identical labels. Still, it would have caused even more trouble to rename the slaves, as this was a legacy from the original RTW.

I was thinking about the names of the family members. They have, as far as I've seen, all Germanic names instead of Slavic ones.

And no, it wasn't sarcasm. I am incapable of sarcasm, actually.

And by the way, I do love your work, but as I said earlier: I am rather anal.

Well, the factions list in our BI Factions section is currently being updated. Presently, it lists all playable factions. Soon, it will list the unplayable factions too. For the original RTW site, the factions are incomplete and are steadily being updated.

Well, the Romans had a tendancy to group a whole bunch of tribes and entirely different civilizations under "Germanii." If not Germanii, barbarians. And please, try to come off as a little more respectful. We're fortunate to have reps like CaptainFishpants around here.

I've tried to fiddle with the files to open up the other factions...so far no success. The closest I've got is the celts, which gave me a lenghty description of them in the faction selection screen, but refused to load (it kept bumping me back to the main menu). All the other factions just caused the game to crash to desktop; even the Burgundi and Lombardi, which exist at the beginning of the game. Maybe CA took out that little cheat after R:TW, which kinda sucks because that doesn't really leave that many playable factions for BI.

the berbers and the celts worked fine with me. I guess thier is no objective or discription for the lombardi or roxannii so they can't be playable.

Ali,how did you open the celts and berbers? I can't seem to get any of the npc factions to run. Is there info posted in another thread somewhere?
