Recording your own speeches... now that's an interesting idea, but not possible under the present system.
The general's speeches are actually constructed 'on the fly' from carefully prepared chunks (it was hard work making sure that the sections matched up, I can tell you). The circumstances of a battle are used to determine which of the 'chunks' are selected for a particular fight. The speech, as such, doesn't really exist until it is delivered.
Quite clever, on the whole.
