In one of my campaign games as the Julians on VH/VH, I started off normally - sending Flavius and Vibius north to take Mediolanum and Patavium, and recruited three units of hastati to attack Segesta. It all went well, and I formed an alliance with Dacia and Germany - big mistake - but it stayed strong for a while. I captured Iuvavum, then snatched Segestica from the Brutians. I took Massilia, and then Caralis, and snatched Carthage from the Scipians. In a large assault, I took down Narbo Martius, and after many failures, took down Lugdunum. After bribing a Gallic General, I took Lemonum, pinning the Gauls into two cities - one on the North-Western edge of the continent, and one in Central Spain - soon to fall.
Anyway, the Germans backstabbed me - big surprise, I know - and attacked Iuvavum with a rather large force. I sent up a relief force and slaughtered that, but an even larger force assaulted Segestica - and defeated it. A few turns later, I once again snatched it from the Brutians. Next turn, a larger force retook it, and I decided to let it go, because it wasn't growing quickly enough to make it worth my efforts. Before I knew it, Lugdunum had been snatched, and I am currently building up a force of Triarii and ballistas in Carthage to take down the German juggernauts once and for all - especially after the massive defeat I suffered in the mountains in Northern Italy.
So, to get to the point, does anyone have any tips for defeating the Germans in VH/VH? Nothing I do works - the Britons won't attack them, the Dacians won't either - the Germans absolutely refuse to be bribed, and Carthage is on the verge of revolt, and when one unit leaves the city, it immediately revolts. Oh, Segestica revolted against the Germans and is back in my hands. BTW I haven't gotten Marius yet.
