I think a Mix of Sacred Band and Peoni works best. My Favourite strategy was the elephant barrage lol. Get 3 units of elephants ram them into Enemy Infantry.
Anyway here is what I did:
2 cavalry units, 3 elephants units, 4 peoni units, 1 sacred band and 2 Peoni infantry.
Use elephants arhcers, cavalry to flank, I like Peoni as they are expendable, and also realtively fast units. And than Sacred Band to put in the middle of your army. I like putting elephants to 1 side, normally opposite to my Peoni infantry and than Cavalry 1 on each side.
I like Numidian horses because they are very good skirmirshers, better than any of Carthages crappy ones.
Vs Romans Elephants are a great unit to have, I always made sure to have elephants when I vsed the Romans.
Vs Numidia you can have an army of pure mercenaries and still win. They are pretty weak not much to say here, the like cavalry, don't use long shield cavalry I find they don't do that well. Some Infantry with your own skirmishers will wipe the floor with them.
Greeks, Elephants once again, get I like to get he hoplites figthing 1v1, and than get elephants to charge on the sides to muck up the formations. Using War Elephants/Elephants will do, save up those armoured elephants
Well I am a bit rusty I may need correcting! Gl.
