Well, I got off my keyster, removed bugfixer 2.06 changes and installed the 1.6 patch. Everything worked well. I started a new campaign to see if I notice any differences.
One thing I noticed during my first battle was when I redirected a hastaii unit that seemed to have destroyed an enemy unit to another part of the battle field. All the soldiers moved except for one that seemed to be still fighting. I went for a closer look and this one soldier is swinging away at an invisible enemy. The unit card indicated the engaged status, but the rest of the soldiers from that unit were not yet engaged. I sent some reinforcements over to see what would happen and they too seemed to engage an invisible enemy (even hear the sounds). The enemy eventually dies and the soldier is released to join his unit. I had some battles since, but this has not come up again, so hope this was just a one time thing.
Something else I have noticed is how the AI works to deploy skirmishers towards the front, rather than leaving them behind in attack. That is cool, but some AI phalanx seems to go up to my battle line and stops to wait for something to happen, before they engage. Seems that the AI makes a concerted effort to turn my battle line on one end while the other waits for the effect. However, if it doesn't work, then they just sit and become easy prey during mop up. Maybe unit experience or morale is affecting their performance. Will need to play further and will let you know.
Finally, noticed some clipping issues when viewing the general dies cut scene that I hadn't noticed before.
There is a 3.02 bugfixer for the 1.5/1.6 patch that seems to be similar to the 2.06 with some of the same things, but with less than 2.06 that I assume the patch took care of. I am going to play more before I decide to download. Nice thing about bugfixer is that changes are reversible, just have to becareful and check file dates as you go along.
