By relatively popular request, the sea battle will return, bigger and better than ever. Basically, you move your ships around and shoot other ships. You can choose between three classes of ship: Bomb Ketch, Corvette and Frigate.

Bomb Ketch:
8 Movement Points per turn.
2 Cannons each side.
1 Forward facing mortar each side.
6 HP Stern, 8 HP Bow, 12 HP Sides.

Corvette:
6 Movement Points per turn.
4 cannons each side.
8 HP Stern, 12 HP Bow, 16 HP Sides.

Frigate:
5 Movement points per turn.
5 Cannons each side.
10 Hp Stern, 15 HP Bow, 20 HP Sides.

The following actions may be used:
Move Forward.
Turn to Port (left for landlubbers).
Turn to Starboard (right for landlubbers).
Fire guns to Port - Fires a volley of all portside cannon.
Fire guns to Starboard - Fires a volley of all starboard side cannon.
Fire mortar - Fires one mortar (Bomb Ketch only).

Each action takes one movement point. Guns have a range of 2 squares (hit any ship up to the second square directly abeam) and cannot fire over the islands. Mortars have a range of between two and four squares directly forward and can fire over the islands. Each forward movement moves your ship one square forward and each turn turns your ship by 90 degrees. Gunnery gets better the closer you are. For a broadside to broadside attack, you have a 60% chance of hitting a target in the first square and a 30% chance of hitting a target in the second square. For a broadside to bow or broadside to stern attack, the chances are 50% and 20% respectively. Mortars against a broadside have an 80% chance of hitting from 2 squares, 60% chance of hitting from three squares and a 40% chance of hitting from four squares. Against a bow or stern, the chances are 65%, 45% and 25% respectively. Each hit by a cannon takes off 1 HP from the section of the ship hit, each mortar hit takes 2 HP. You have limited ammunition this time, Each ship will have enough ammunition for two firing volleys (cannon or mortar), it doesn't matter where they are fired from. All probabilities will be worked out using the random number generator on my calculator, as tossing a coin 50 times gets a little tedious.

You will also lose firepower when you are hit, you will lose the cannon on each side in proportion to the number of hipoints lost. Frigates and Corvettes will lose one cannon for every 4 HP lost on that side. Bomb Ketches will lose a cannon after 4 HP and a mortar after 8 HP. Each mortar can only fire once per turn.

Ramming another ship will lose both ships 2 HP from the points of contact and the ship doing the ramming will lose the remaining movement points for that turn.

Each ship will also gain 1 Repair Point at the end of each turn. This allows them to repair damage at a maximum rate of 2 HP per section per turn. This will gain you back your lost guns if you repair enough HP. Repair Points can be stocked up between turns if they are not needed or the commander does not want to repair his ship for some reason. Repairing will not cost any movement points and must be done at the start of a turn. All four section can be repaired at once.

There will be chests in the water, picking these up may grant you extra cannon, extra movement points, extra repair points, extra ammunition or they may be a mine.
Extra Cannon (x<0.2) - You get an extra cannon on the side of your choosing.
Extra Movement Points (0.2<x,0.4) - You get 1 extra movement point per turn until the end of the game.
Extra Repair Points (0.4<x<0.6) - You get 5 Repair Points.
Extra Ammunition (0.6<x<0.8) - You get one extra volley of ammunition per turn until the end of the game.
Mine (0.8<x<1.0) - You lose 3 HP on each section.

I will not play this time, as it is probably fairer that way. Be aware that I will not necessarily update the map after every turn. Remember, ramming another ship will lose you 2 HP on the bow, ramming the islands will lose you 3 HP on the bow. The islands are defined as any square containig land. Firing at where a ship was earlier but is not anymore just makes you look stupid.

The map is updated up to the end of Round 15 (Post 533), click to enlarge. Make sure you zoom in in the image.

We now have 14 players, numbers and colours.

Weaknesses in a ship are highlighted in yellow and critical weaknesses in red. Destroyed ships are in black.
Weakness means 5 or less HP.
Critical Weakness means 2 or less HP.

I apologise to anyone who is offended by having a sissy colour. There are only a certain number in Paint.

To make your moves, post them in bold, one on a line.
Example:
Repair 2 HP Bow
Repair 1 HP Stern
Move Forwards
Move Forwards
Turn to Starboard
Fire Guns to Port
Turn to Sterboard
Fire Mortar Long
Turn to Starboard
Move Forwards

Game On!!!

Kills so far:
High Captain Eldarion of the Numerramar has finished off Admiral Ichbinian's ship the Noon with a decent long range shot to the stern.

Admiral Watchful Wan has sunk Grand Admiral Jax with two fine volleys followed up by a ram into the stern.

Captain KOW and the rest of the cowards on the Black Hawk have perished, wrecked by a storm brought up by the angry gods.

Captain Beauregard Cobb has proved his ruggedness in overcoming a near fatal series of accidents early on to blow exe1's bow off.

Lieutenant Andrew Dunn has struck his colours, surrendering to Sir Doitzel Kaiser, Duke of Doitzeltopia.

Sir Doitzel Kaiser, Duke of Doitzeltopia has blown Grand Admiral Kaiser's bow off with two excellent volleys.

High Captain Eldarion has become the first to claim a second kill, with a brilliant pair of volleys to Admiral MaxDec's stern.

High Captain Eldarion has taken his third kill, with a solid volley to Sir Doitzel Kaiser, Duke of Doitzeltopia's bow.

High Captain Eldarion is fast becoming the most successful captain in the game, claiming Admiral Watchful Wan as his fourth kill with a fine pair of volleys to the bow.

High Captain Eldarion has gained yet another kill, destroying Waverider Nausicaa's stern with a plum pair of volleys.

OK, that's nine players in so far.

I'm impressed with exe1 for having the guts to go with the Bomb Ketch.

Although I will probably spend the game running away.

Two questions, since I wasn't here the last game: some squares clearly cannot be used, but what about squares part land and part sea. Starting from the bottom left and moving three to the right, then one up, is an example of this. Can ships move there?

2. What is the power of the mortar in relation to the cannon?

Thanks for your replies, and good luck.

Land is defined as any square containing land. It's just too hard to get the ships into the square from my point of view when updating the map. Moving three to the right and one up from the bottom left is a sea square though. Are you sure you are looking at the full size map?

Each cannon hit takes off 1 HP, each mortar hit takes off 2 HP. The mortar is more accurate and has a longer range, but it only fires one shot. It can fire over islands and other ships, so you need to say what you are shooting at.
Fire Mortar Short - Aims at the second square off the bow.
Fire Mortar - Aims at the third square off the bow.
Fire Mortar Long - Aims at the fourth square off the bow.

13 players so far. Shouldn't be too long before we get going. I'll start putting the ships and chests on the map now.

My mistake, from bottom right, two left and one up. I counted the starting square. There is a yellow ship in it, so I am assuming that is a place you can go.

That is off the map.
You do need to zoom in on the map, because it doesn't show all the square boundaries in the scaled down version for some reason.
