This castle is based on Castel Thun in northern Italy. It was built by the Thun family in the 13th century(who had several other castles as well) and has had a turbulent past. It survived two peasent uprisings(1407 and 1477) and a Lutheran inspired peasent rebellion(1525)(The peasents themselves usually rebelled due to overtaxing). The Thuns themselves managed to stay in power until the 18th century. In the 1500s the castle was remodeled as an aristocratic residence and has seen lots of change over time including the addition of two towers to the inner walls sometime in the middle ages. This is considered one of the largest castles in the area, in a valley with an unusually high number of castles.
The time of the scenario for this map is 1407. The peasents are rebelling and its up to you to defend the castle from those who have been over-taxed and are looking for someone to blame. To even things up some they have also stolen a shipment of weapons bound for another castle and have armed themselves.
It doesnt take long for the peasents to get the weapons and then go on the attack you will have little time to prepare.
This map was made for the 3rd Castle Competition and appearently I was the only one to enter so I "won" by default. This will be the second map I have submitted to here.
I hope you all like it.
Take a look at what the castle actually looks like: http://www.castelthun.com/castello/immagini.asp
Congratulations for winning the competition! :P
but i thought there were more participates for this competition...

Thanks for the map! You built a lot of individually shaped towers, the eastern one functions like an outpost. Bravo that the invaders use siege towers. The mission is tough even on moderate level, the invaders being innumerable and strong, the defenders ridiculuosly few. (A strategical mistake of the Thuns to leave their ancestral seat in such a way unprotected.)
I almost could not buy and distribute oil quick enough.
PS: Did not miss to have a last view onto the vineyards.

Thanks
Had to get the towers to look the right size compared with the real thing, figured that making them individually would be fine as they look like the real thing except without a roof.
Didnt know what difficulty it was. I didnt bother using oil at all although I left that option in, I knew that it couldnt have too much impact because of the speed they attack. I would say more but dont want to spoil peoples tactical thoughts.
As for defender numbers, I figured that a few basic guards would be fine, no castle constantly had a full army at home of course, but the number works well anyway. Besides, you got people willing to take up arms to defend the castle.
