Desert of Death

The Third Crusade was a military expedition instigated by the Pope who had called on the kingdoms of the Occident after Sultan Saladin had defeated the Crusader army of the Kingdom of Jerusalem and the city of Jerusalem had been conquered. The crusade began in 1189 under the leadership of Philip II. Of France, Richard the Lionheart of England and Frederick Barbarossa, the Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, who unfortunately died before reaching the Holy Land. The crusade ended in 1192 with a peace agreement though the city of Jerusalem had not been reconquered by the Crusaders. Only the Jaffa coast up to Beirut could be secured to the Kingdom of Jerusalem, and Acre, which had been captured after a long siege by the Crusaders, became the new capital. Free access to Jerusalem was assured to any unarmed Christian pilgrim.

Since the first crusade, the crusade leaders had been erecting several fortifications along the coast in order to guarantee security to the population there. It is quite obvious that the construction of those daunting castles required a great deal of energy and loads of building material, especially of stone, which was exploited in local quarries in the near desert.

Now it is your turn: Duke Frederic of Swabia, Barbarossa’s son, has ordered you to organize the necessary amount of stone for the repairs of all damaged walls and towers of Acre. Your second task is the procurement of gold as the mercenaries are going to rebel if they should not get their pay in time. To fulfill the quests you have chosen an ancient abandoned quarry being located on the borders to the desert, hoping that any hostile arabic troops would not track you down there. Food supply might not be a major issue as pigs are content with little and pork is suitable for being used as salt meat in these extreme climatic areas. Your scout, a Derwish veteran, had warned you against occasionally threatening sandstorms that may occur because of unstable temperature variations all day and night.

Good luck!

brianvlee Thanks for your submission. Is it meant to not be able to add hovels to this mission?

Yes, it is not allowed to build hovels in this scenario ... you have to deal with the given units and peasants. However, you are able to recruit archers ...

By the way ...
You will need a lot of micromanagement in this scenario with regard to the restrictive usage of only eight peasants, and the placement of a well is of vital necessity to extinguish the fires which occasionally break out ... as wood is rare in those regions to reconstruct or repair any buildings ...
