Mod Help Thread

This is a shameless ripoff of Ech's Scenario Design Help Thread, except it's for modpacks.

Ask all mod related questions here. If you are experiencing a problem with any of the mod tools, post it here. If you have any questions about modding, post 'em here.

Before asking "How do I mod?", please visit the Modpacks page.


IF YOU ARE HAVING TROUBLE WITH THE MOD INSTALLER, please state which version you are using. This will make it easier to troubleshoot the problem.

IF YOU ARE REPORTING AN ERROR, please state more than just the error number. Please post the error number, the error description, and the steps you took to produce said error.

What does the, "Mod Editor" do? I already know what the drs. viewer or whatever it's called and the mod installer does.

In a diff. thread, you told me about a program you had that could fix the unit fast bike error supposedly, but you hadn't tested it yet. If you want, i could test it for you.

The Mod Editor is the primary tool for creating SWGB mods. You include the SLPs, DLLs, DATs, Icons, etc. You set anchors for units, generate the data, compile the MPI, and just about everything possible with mod development.

Mace, I wanted the file. Skandalis, just go into scenario editor, make a map with enemies but no triggers, add the units the mod replaced, and test it. If it works, save it as "Skandalis' Mod Test" and add new units every new mod.

Once you've installed them, you are ready to roll. The unit that the mod replaces will have changed in the game, or, if it's a hero or something, in the scenario editor.

The modpack installer? or the modpacks themselves?
The modpack installer should go in your GAME folder and the modpacks can be placed anywhere. You just have to tell the installer where they are when you want them loaded.

I have several things to say.
1:What is an Xmod?
2:How do you load a pic into 3Dmax and change it (like color it or something)
3:I made a mod, but when it walks away from the screen, the graphics mesh like the Thrawn mod. What's up with it!?

Okay, so I'm just having a bit o' trouble with the editer. So, I downloaded it and the DRS program, and got the building that I wanted to edit (Rebel Fortress Lvl 4 version), and put in my graphic that I made, and went to compile it to MPI. When I tried to install it, before it even finished opening it, it came up as an error, saying that the mod was corrupted. After several more tries (six or seven, at last count ^_^;; I'm about ready to give up on editing the building... Any help here?

The most common reason for corruption is that you didn't type the SLP number that the mod replaces correctly. If you mistyped it and it's an invalid number, then the mod will be corrupt.

AFAIK, 3ds Max only does 3d models

When the unit is walking south, or with his back to us, the walking graphics change from walking south to southeast and for the southeast it has walking south graphics in there.
*Gets out of trash and pulls food out of hair.*
