Malcolm Reynolds and his crew have acquired
a mighty large bunch of enemies. There's them that
hate their freedom, them that hate their guts and
them that just hate. It's getting awful crowded
in their sky.

The Criminals (Rotaretilbo, DragonQ, James Hook, Czech Centurian) have won on Day 7.

Still Flying (1/22):
DragonQ (Stitch Hession, Criminals, Mafia Goon)

Dead (21/22)
Count Mummolus (Wash, Crew, Pilot)
Czech Centurian (Kaylee, Crew, Mechanic)
The Real Calder (Alliance Captain, Alliance, Mafia Goon)
Beelzebub (Lawrence Dobson, Alliance, Undercover Role Cop)
Droideka Count Mummolus Mozzarella Man (Hands of Blue, Alliance, Mafia Leader)
Drinian (Shepherd Book, Crew, One shot Governor)
sneaky_squirrel (Simon Tam, Crew, Doctor)
Heir of Elessar (Mudder, Crew, Dedicated Bodyguard)
Newt Gunray (Reaver, Reavers, Semi cult killer, semi cult converter)
Henrz (Inara Serra, Crew, Stone Townie)
Gruesy (Captain Harken, Alliance, Mafia Roleblocker)
gonnaflynow EnemyofJupitor (Jayne Cobb, Crew, Interrogator)
NomadicNoodle (Fess Higgins, Crew, One-shot anti-roleblocker)
Rotaretilbo (Tracey, Criminals, Mafia Ghost)
Crazed (Sir Warrick Harrow, Crew, Noble)
Blatant Czech Centurian (Patience, Criminals, Mafia Leader)
Ferret (Monty, Crew, Veteran)
Shanks (Badger, Crew, Roleblocker)
Ashrzr A Banned User Drinian (River Tamp, Crew Reavers, Triple Veteran Cult Convertee)
ArveduiXzyiothe (Malcolm Reynolds, Crew, Pilot-enaabled mass faith jailbocker)
James Hook (Two Fry, Criminals, One-shot daykiller)

Reserves:
Drinian
Heir of Ellessar

Notes:
Significant balancing has been done on this game. I'd like to think that the power of the central 9 townies has been fairly effectively broken. So take note, the 9 protagonists may not all be in this mafia. None of them may be in this mafia. Scum may be tipped off as to the identities of missing protagonists. Be careful.

Also, I may choose to use any variety of characters as the first person for my day/night posts. A character is not guaranteed to be in the game just because they are featured in one of these posts.

Rules:
  • Do not edit your posts - double post if necessary. One violation may be forgiven, but if it happens multiple times, you may be mod-killed.
  • Do not reveal any information after your character has died.
  • This game is closed communication - talk within this thread only, unless your role specifically states otherwise.
  • Do not quote my PMs. Paraphrase.
  • It is absolutely forbidden to discuss the quote given to you in your role email. They are there only as flavor, and are not meant to play any part in this game.
  • No talking/strategizing during the night, unless your role specifically states otherwise.
  • During the day, players can vote to lynch. To cast your vote type Vote: Name. Be sure to bold it!
  • If you change your vote, type Unvote: Name or Unvote before your new vote. Otherwise, I'll ignore your new vote.

A sunset was always more spectacular from orbit. The crew of
Serenity gathered on the bridge to watch the sun slowly sink
behind the rim of Persephone as they sank into its atmosphere. As the
last sliver of sun disappeared, a shiver passed through them. They were
in trouble. Hopefully all of them would survive to see the next sunset.
As these thoughts did not go well with the image of the atmosphere
glowing with reflected light, the group broke up. It would be a long
hard road till they could watch a sunset without fear again.

    It is now Night 0.

    Persephone
The meat seller was hurrying back his stand at the eavesdown docks. He needed to get this
new lot of meat onto his grill as soon as possible. His partner was going to run out
soon. He ducked into a shortcut that he knew, a narrow passage that wended itself between
stacked shipping containers. It was a long passageway, cut off from the sky. he would
never have ventured into it at night. In his hurry, it took him a second to realize what
he was seeing when he rounded the next corner. His eyes, on the floor took in the
bloodstains all over the ground. As his gaze slowly rose, he noted that blood and
entrails were splashed on the walls. A drop of blood, falling in front of his face
directed his eyes upwards. Up in the shadows above the passage hung the barely
recognizable mutilated body of Czech Centurion. His hand involuntarily let go of the
package of meat. Before he knew what he was doing, he found himself sprinting backwards
along the passage, desperate to put as much distance as possible between him and that
horrible scene. The long way would suffice.

    Other Happenings of note:
Count Mummolus was found dead this morning.

Count Mummolus (Wash, Pilot) is dead.
Czech Centurion (Kaylee, Mechanic) is dead.
There are 20 alive, so it is 11 to lynch.

You've got my and Czech's names switched at the bottom of the writeup.

    Good luck town.

Wash and Kaylee are characters in the show, Pilot and Engineer are their respective roles, though I'm not sure what abilities either had. Persephone is the name of a planet. Also, how long do we have to figure out who the heck we're supposed to lynch?

Quite a while. We could have a month or even more, as long as discussion is active. There's no rush in that.

So, I'm assuming that there's is a protagonist who is narrating the flavor text, like in Yeeb's Star Trek Voyager mafia.

Odd how one of the deaths received a full write up while the other got nothing.

It's reasonable to assume that the mafia is the "two by two, hands of blue" spooks River was always going on about. I'd also assume that the assassin from the movie is a serial killer - that would explain the two deaths.

The mannerism of Kaylee's death doesn't remind me of Hands of Blue. Maybe the Alliance in general, though, is a mafia, with another mafia being the Hands of Blue. Jubal Early might be a SK or with the Hands of Blue, but I'm pretty sure The Operative isn't in this.

Just a thought - we've mentioned the people of the Blue Sun Corporation (two by two, hands of blue), and the Operative from the movie as possible villains; what about Reavers? Or at least the guy that went crazy in the episode "Bushwhacked." He would seem to make an excellent serial killer, considering the rather graphic nature of the death that was described. I would have said Reavers in general, but that guy is a known individual killer. Does that make sense?

The fact that we're stranded on Persephone seems to discourage reavers from being part of the plot. Persephone is a moderately civilized planet, so Reavers never really get too close. This is my first time, so I don't know if this is possible, but does the moderator ever kill anyone for plot device? Because if he wanted us to stay on Persephone, killing Wash would be a very effective way to accomplish that.

Also, the blood splattered all over the wall does sound a lot like the Hands of Blue. They basically make people's blood boil and then they explode into gore all over everything. The disappearance of Wash, though sounds more like either plot device or Alliance style. The Alliance is basically an authoritarian regime.

I admit, I've only ever seen this program a couple of times. But from what I can gather, both of these characters seem to be quite important.

The thing about the lack of a write-up for Mummolous' death intrigues me. As I say, I'm certainly no expert on the theme, but could there perhaps be some kind of stealth killer, who leaves no clues as to their identity or the means of murder? Is there any character who could fit that description?

As I said, the Alliance might operate like that. They're basically a totalitarian regime that maintains order "for everyone's own good". But everyone kind of just accepts that, except for the main characters of the show. Mal, (the Captain) and Zoey, (the soft-spoken bad-ass) both fought in a civil war against the Alliance six, (I think?) years before show starts.

Sorry, but one more n00b question. Can the day end without us lynching somebody?

We're on Persephone today, but not necessarily stranded. I daresay the moderator just picks planets and locations as he chooses, maybe giving various groups powers for that day/night sequence.

It looks like players' roles are revealed but not their abilities, which would indeed make it difficult for us. However, it may just be that the "core" protagonists are revealed this way; we don't know yet.
It's reasonable to assume that the mafia is the "two by two, hands of blue" spooks River was always going on about. I'd also assume that the assassin from the movie is a serial killer - that would explain the two deaths.
I disagree. The assassin from the film (did he ever have a name?) worked for the Alliance. He could possibly be a godfather or something but I wouldn't think he'd be an SK. If we have an SK, it would probably be Jubal Early (bounty hunter from the last episode).
Damn it all to hell. Wash's dead, which probably means Serenity can't move. Kaylee's dead, which probably means if Serenity were to break down, no one could fix it.
Do you think there are more things going on aside from our scum hunting then, like mechanics involving the ship? I've personally only seen such a thing once - is there any reason you believe this to be the case here?
The mannerism of Kaylee's death doesn't remind me of Hands of Blue.
It is almost certainly a Reaver death. If we have Reavers in this game they are likely to be powerful - perhaps a small group for balance.
The fact that we're stranded on Persephone seems to discourage reavers from being part of the plot. Persephone is a moderately civilized planet, so Reavers never really get too close
Where does it say we are stranded? Wash being dead doesn't mean the ship can't move. Kaylee being dead also doesn't mean the ship can't move, unless it's damaged, which is not mentioned anywhere.
The thing about the lack of a write-up for Mummolous' death intrigues me. As I say, I'm certainly no expert on the theme, but could there perhaps be some kind of stealth killer, who leaves no clues as to their identity or the means of murder? Is there any character who could fit that description?
Yes, Jubal Early. In the last episode he sneaks on board and neutralizes most of the crew without being spotted. The lack of a write-up suggests this was the case here.

That's because Maeg knows I'm not an eskimo. Anyway

    Vote: The Real Calder

That puts him at just over half to majority. I think that's enough votes for now, though.

Bleh. Sorry. This is what happens when you try and write a history paper, catch up on The Guild, and post on the forums at the same time. Multitasking. Something I have yet to master.

So we're going with Calder just because DragonQ, a rather experienced player, does? That could be dangerous to do that so freely, if he is scum. But we'll see where this goes.

No, not really. It's common sense. We're cruely exploiting the normally true fact that inexperienced scum players crack under pressure. It's unfortunate, but if it makes us win, I'm game.

Every person that's had a vote on them would qualify as inexperienced. I'm just sayin'.

So Arvedui and Droideka are inexperienced? Hardly.

Or rather he does not know that you're an eskimo.

Droideka can't have completed more than 10 games. Noche Triste, while it's an epic game, was his first game, and it hasn't even finished yet. You're also forgetting about James Hook.

I'm going with Calder because it's Day 1 and we don't have a lot of options. Q has had a really good eye in the past, so I'm trusting his gut, since we don't have much else to go on.

And Arvy is just generally soft and squishy. He might not be inexperienced, but even he admits he's not the best player, preferring hosting.

New players are less likely to come up with a good fake claim and so make good choices for early pressure. Metagaming perhaps but true.
So if I role-claim you'll try to pick it apart and if I'm anything good and it DOESN'T get picked apart, then I could potentially get killed for it the next night. Any advice? For now, I think I'm just going to shut up not tempt fate, so I hope that isn't an even worse option!

Thanks! That's about the one piece of sympathy I've gotten! :-(

This is exactly why I asked if we had to convict everyone. While I had no idea everyone would start hunting me, I certainly have some hesitation to convicting someone who, chances are, is on our side.
