THE CHEESE MAN WITH THANKS TO XZYIOTHE
Quoted from SM1:
The main idea of this mafia game is that the game-play is highly different from the usual style. This particular game will appeal to a writer’s abilities, as well as to the strategist’s. Players will send in their night actions as they would normally, however they will not be simple commands; the action must be written out in the form of a short scene.
For example (A):
Player One is a mafia assassin. Player Two is a townie, whose flavor is that he’s a book dealer. Player One would write me a short scene in which he breaks into the book store’s back door just as Player Two is finishing cleaning up shop. The scene will contain information on items used, and items destroyed, and items left.
“I kept a low profile as I walked through the street, ducking into an alleyway as soon as the coast was clear. Sticking to the shadows, I crept up to the back entrance of Player Two’s book shop. I took my plastic bag of bobby pins out of my front coat pocket and tried to unlock the door, but to no avail. I decided that I’d have to make a noisier entry.
When the sounds of footsteps were at their quietest, I busted the glass on the door with my fist—covered with my sleeve—and unlatched the door. My made my move quickly; there was no time for slipups. Running through the back room and into the hallway, I saw my target. Player Two was standing there, shocked. He had a large book in one hand, and an index card in the other. When I drew my silenced 10mm pistol, he dropped them both. I took quick but careful aim, yet I still missed the sweet spot between the center of his eyes… by an centimeter or two; just above the left eyebrow and he was down.
I left the way I came in—taking a red, leather bound book and leaving two quid, fifty pence on the counter.”
However, even if a story is perfectly told, circumstances can leave the events quite impossible. If two stories clash, they will be merged.
For example (B):
Player One, and Player Two are still mafia assassin and townie. However, Player Three is a townie vigilante. Player Three’s scene has Player One in a different place, because Player Three doesn’t know that Player One is there.
“I had decided that it was finally time for the gloves to come off. I had been keeping tabs on several of the residents in town, and Player One struck me as highly suspicious. It was a short drive to his apartment, the door of which I knocked on several timed before it received a rude ‘yeah?’ of an answer. Player One opened the door and stood there. I took no time. I punched him in the gut and the twice in the face. I kicked his stomach and threw him through his glass coffee table. I pulled out my .32 and unloaded the weapon until he was a bloody mess on bloody-red carpet.”
The following day post would go something like this:
“The local news is abuzz with the news of last night’s insane events. One reporter actually broke down in tears, as he couldn’t believe that his beloved town was going to hell. Last night, at around seven o’clock, Player One was attacked and killed while in the process of trying to assassinate Player Two in his small book store. Player Two didn’t get a good look at the man, but police are calling him a criminal and a danger to the community while local townies are praising the man’s act of heroism.
Player One was beaten and then shot a total of six times around the head and chest area. Police report that Player Two was being threatened with a silenced 10mm pistol which was confirmed after such a weapon was found at the scene. No word on who the man who killed Player One was, but he certainly has left quite the signature on our little town.
Player One (mafia assassin) is dead.
It is now day….”
