This .zip contains a huge amount of original AoE 3D Studio Max files (.max), which contain most buildings created for Age of Empires. Please note that almost all textures are however missing, so you can only load the bare structures. There are no unit renders, only buildings. These were created by Sean and Duncan McKissick, former ES employees.
Did you ever manage to open these? I only could open a couple of files. All the others gave errors when opening (missing dll files).

I used 3DSM6, an ancient version and they opened fine. I do not recall any missing .dll though I might have added them from downloading them from the web.
