A Curious Incident at the Abbey is a creative little minigame by Al_Kharn the Great in which you must use a monk to collect four relics before your opponent collects any.

Playability: 4
This is a very fun little minigame with very unique and creative gameplay. This is unlike anything you will have every played before as it doesn't focus on warfare or diplomacy but rather on tactically using your monk to collect relics in a certain order and using your small band of solders to try and stop your opponents monk from taking any relics. The game is entirely unique and gives a short but entertaining experience for the player. However, I did find that I could get slightly repetitive and boring after a while because every time your opponent collects a relic the whole thing resets so you have to start again. This got tedious after a while.

Balance: 5
The minigame is perfectly balanced. Both teams have exactly the same monks with the same speed and units spawn equally at each base at the same time. This game is all about tactics and skillfully choosing which relics to collect first and how to slow down the oppositions monk. You have to use your units wisely to protect the relics on your side of the river and to also protect your monk as he travels to the enemy side of the river.

Creativity: 5
This scenario is completely unique. There is nothing else like this in the Age of Empires World. The scenario uses a unqiue game mechanic which forces the player to collect 4 relics without their opponent collecting any. If both players collect a relic then the game resets and you have to start all over again. This gameplay is entirely original and is a change from the typical battle heavy or RPG lead scenarios that are commonly scene.

Map Design: 5
While this is a minigame set on a very small map the design of it is beautiful. The small land surround the two abbeys is relatively open but there is a great use of terrain mixing in the grass, and plenty of nice eye candy such as a graveyard and some simple ruins. The river splitting the two abbeys is also nicely designed with a big stone bridge and a smaller wooden jetty used as crossing points.

Story/Instructions: 3
I believe this to be the scenarios weakest point. While the instructions for this scenario are good and explain how the mechanics of the game works, there is little to no storyline. While the scenario as an arcade style minigame doesn't necessarily require one, it would have been a nice touch to add more in. There is a little humorous introduction about the two monks having a rivalry but that about it. Maybe explaining who the monks were and, giving them names, and what has caused their rivalry would have added more to the atmosphere of the scenario.

Additional Comments:
Overall this is a highly creative scenario which I would highly recommend to anyone wanting to experience something new.

Thanks
Possidon
