Proteus is a simple installer for Age of Empires II graphical mods. To use, place the installer and !Assets folder in a subfolder of your AoK directory (e.g. Age of Empires II\Proteus) or that of a mod (e.g. Age of Empires II\Games\Realms\Proteus). Note: the C patch is required. Using Proteus in a mod will apply changes to the mod instead of the base game.
v2.0 comes with the ability to install individual icons
Once located, place graphical mods in the same folder as Proteus. These can be folders containing numbered slps as well as akx, aks, or gcm files.
Interesting. So how does this differ from your Genie Converter program?

It's much simpler and more specialized. It should be significantly easier to use in general and to install large numbers of mods with.

Very good!
I have a few questions, why does Scarlet Macaw have the slp name "gam05043" instead of "5043"? Would it be possible for you to make Proteus load "empires2_x1_p1.dat" and the 3 language files? Even better would be if he inserted lines from a text file in "language_x1_p1.dll", but I think that shouldn't be possible.

Files need to be named that way for drsbuild to add them to the game. Proteus will automatically handle renaming a 4504.slp that way, however.
I suppose Proteus could support dat and dll, but the fact that you can’t ever install two dat mods at once makes the Proteus interface not fit that use case very well. I’m not sure it would really be much easier than copying dat files manually.
Merging dll files (or ini files, more likely) would be quite complex. Perhaps I’ll consider it, but I’m not entirely confident in my ability to make a foolproof and intuitive way to make that work.

Proteus Installer is a program created by Vardamir which allows or multiple mod packs to be installed simultaneously.
Usefulness/Novelty: 5
This is undoubtedly a gift to Age of Empires modding community. The program allows users to install multiple SLPs at the same time without the use of data editing. For example, using the program a player can install a number of different units which replace existing units to create a diverse or more historically accurate version of the game. Beyond this, Proteus can also install akx files so you can download and replay all of the old mods designed for the now defunct Mod Pack Studio without having to extract the SLPs from the akx file, including old total conversions such as Rome at War and Middle Earth Total Conversion.
Quality/Instructions: 5
The program is very user friendly an easy to use. It's got a simple user interface and buttons are clearly marked and labeled to allow users to understand exactly what each one does. Theres a detailed readme file which comes with the program which outlines the different features of the program and how it works so anybody can use it.
Additional Comments:
Overall this is a fantastic tool which will be useful for many downloaders of mod packs and a Highly Recommended Download.
