So I love bothe AoE 1 and 2. But of course AoE2 has a far better engine and more detailed graphics.
My goal is to make building sets for the civs of AoE1 to create a sort of "remake" mod in AoE2.
Once I have "enough" buildings I'll see about getting a small group of modders experienced in the data-editing side of things and see where it goes from there!

My Imgur containing most assets so far.

Wow they look great in game! Well the houses doesn't seem bad so leave them like that, for more diversity.

oh wow

I actually meant in aoeI size. The scale compared to units is way off. But that's mostly for game play reasons.

I'm glad people like this so far.

But ugh! I hate making SLPs for town centres. xD I tried to cheat and make all the segments in an image the same size so I wouldn't have to work out each anchor point... Bang! Columns everywhere.

Yeah the town center is an annoying building. Maybe someone should write a university article on it. You can find out what's what by looking at the internal names.

Btw mind if I use your Egyptian granary for an aoe building?
posted 05-14-13 03:27 AM CT (US)     41 / 485
I think I'll focus on the other buildings first.

And sure, that's what they're for. :P

What's exactly the problem with the tcs? You chopped them to pieces and can't figure their anchors? Use the anchors of old tc with similar main/side pieces. The imperial western european is rather small.
posted 05-14-13 04:41 AM CT (US)     43 / 485
The problem is I tried to cheat, and now they're a mess. :P
Once I've got some work out of the way I'll be having another go.

The new age allows copying from one window to another so if it's a mess it's smart to copy the data from the original data to your new data to fix what you messed up.

Btw I posted a screenshot of your resized granary on aoe heaven.

Ah, now that looks good there.

I'm still getting used to changing over SLPs and getting the anchor points right, I'll get there in the end.

I've also realised my houses are a little... Big. The Greek houses are especially huge. :']

I'm so in love with this mod. But I agree, maybe make your houses smaller? Also the shadows look abit blurry. But love the granaries. Houses too and the gates. More graphics please? So excited to check this thread. I was thinking though, maybe some of the Egyptian town centres need more structures/roofed parts to them?

I'm glad to hear it!

The Egyptian town centres aren't final yet, in fact, most of the town centres are yet, since I might need to change or re-render them to make setting their anchors properly.
I was attempting to make it look reminiscent of the Egyptian TC in AoE1, and while I like how it turned out, it doesn't look substantial enough to be a TC.

Also, in general I won't be able to work on this as actively for about a week. So in the meantime, here's an Assyrian siege tower.

Now this is something really interesting/creative and accurate! Did you get the idea from the wall reliefs? Does the axe move up and down? And is it going to be like a ram or something else?

Yup! It's based on the reliefs and various reconstructions on the internet. The axe moves up and down like a hammer, which seemed like the most common interpretation.

I dunno how far in terms of depth this mod will go in the end, but maybe even make it an Assyrian UU. Currently it's just overwriting the graphics for the Battering Ram.

Haven't been working much on buildings, but I've got the three standard ship hulls reskinned.

From top to bottom: Pentekonter, Bireme, Trireme.
They replace the Galley, War Galley and Galleon, respectively.

Fantastic graphic Tzontlimixtli! if i understand correctly, you want to bring AoC 2 to the same period of Aoe 1, but with graphics and gameplay improved, right?

P.S. what's mean you aztecan-mesoamerican user name?
posted 05-18-13 05:18 PM CT (US)     53 / 485
do not make toy ships, bring them to the same scale as they would be smaller galleys still coparable to the size of the humans, also the parapet and some other heights should corespond to the human size. i would say that a player should not create more than 5 ships in one game, these should be expensive and like some moveble castles, i also like the assyrian battering ram and all the buildings - please continue - you are like an ocean breeze in deep desert!!! bravo!!!!!!!!!

bravo!!!!!!!!!
are you Italian?

Thanks guys!

I'd love to bring the ships up to a more realistic scale, however I'm making this as a period mod first. Once all the civs are changed then I'll think more about things like this, since larger, stronger ships will have quite an impact on gameplay it'll need some thinking through to make it balanced.

My username is supposed to be a translation of my English nickname "Moppo", which refers to my longish and rather dense hair. :P However, I didn't have much to go on, and after double-checking some time later it turns out it actually says "Cat hair". :']

The ships are good! Well you keep the models, right? So you can render them bigger in future but i think the gameplay should stay the same.
posted 05-19-13 05:35 AM CT (US)     57 / 485
Oh yes, I never get rid of my models.

One problem with making them bigger without making them more expensive would mean there'd be a lot of overlapping ships in the water. :P
posted 05-19-13 05:53 AM CT (US)     58 / 485
They are overlaping atm too . I like the curent size, no need for change, they look like the aoc ones in size.
posted 05-19-13 06:05 AM CT (US)     59 / 485
Yeah, ships already overlapped in vanilla. My point was that they'd be overlapping in the extreme if they were much bigger. :P

I'm still confused by town centres. xD If only there was a more visually-oriented slp editor that allowed for town centre parts to be overlaid.
posted 05-19-13 06:07 AM CT (US)     60 / 485
Yes, ships from AOE2 overlap a lot, those from AOE1 much less. But they could be modified to improve that, if it doesn't look good.

Could you upload a tc in pieces or the slps of the pieces and i'll try to make the anchors?

I can do, yeah. It needs to be the main bit, left/right roof and left/right front/back supports all separate, yes?

Here's the Greek Bronze Age TC parts as separate BMPs.

I don't have access to this folder. Could you upload them to the site with the other buildings, i can download them from there?

Oops. I'll have to check my Dropbox settings.
They're uploading into the Greek folder on Imgur as I type!

Thanks, i sended the slps to the email from your profile here.

Thanks Todler!

Having proper town centres should give me a bit of a boost to get plenty more buildings done soon.

Oh my god! im in love with this screenshot!

The iron age greek archery should have arms, don't you think? Also the bronze age greek roofs are kind of pale, could you think of something to improve them? Idk the mycenean architecture that well, but at least add some curves like the houses roofs.
posted 05-21-13 04:07 AM CT (US)     69 / 485
If by arms you mean weapons, I'll be adding those.

From what I've found online most reconstructions show Mycenaean buildings in colours like these, some of them even have much more angular roofs.
