The Civ Finder is created by Ha_Luke and me. Ha_Luke did the rating part, I created the file. The file is made in Microsoft Excel

If you answer all the questions the Civ Finder wil find the civ that suits you the best. You only have to follow the instruction, which are very clear.

We are aware of the fact that the rating system may not be balanced. We are improving the rating system from time to time. However you can also change the ratings yourselve.

If you have any suggestions, remarks, questions, improvements or if you have found some bugs, don't hestitate to leave a comment

looks nice, going to download it and fill in all possible answers now !!

Also, I think you should look wether each civ can collect the same amount of points, or do something with that, because you are likely to get the better civs out of the test more often now.

Nice work.

A little constructive criticism:

The data validation tool would work well here, as well as generating error messages without the need for formula it would also generate a drop-down list of allowable answers, preventing those moderators with poor spelling having to have three attempts at spelling aggresive agressive aggressive.

Thx everyone for comments.

@maffia: I don't know how you can create a drop-down list, but it will certainly be better.
For the agg/def question if you type in agresive/aggresive/agressive then in my case the computer change it automatically to aggressive. So that's helpfull

Or if you want to send me an unlocked copy of the spreadsheet I can set the first one up so you can see what to do.

No, not every civ can get the same amount of points. But that's a good thing because some civs are more specialised than others. Some civs have less options so are just not so versatile. For example, Sioux is not good for a defensive player, not good for a booming player, not good for a musk lover, not good for an artillery lover and fits a cav player much better than an infantry player.

There are civs who simply have more options than other civs, that doesn't necessarily mean they are better.

Version 1.02 is now available in the download section.
You can now choose the answer from a list, so you don't have to concern about any typo's. Thanks to maffia.

Problems with drop downs on the following questions.

FF
Military semi-FF
Eco semi-FF
FI strat
FR strat
Trading post
Defensive buildings
Eco side of the game
Raiding
Water maps
Livestock

Also archers/skirms comes up with wrong answer if selecting skirm, I assume it wants skirmishers rather than skirms.

Didnt notice the skirm/skirmishers thing,

But what do you mean with ''problems with drop down'' ?
Those questions are working for me.
posted 12-15-10 10:01 AM EDT (US)     14 / 31
On some the lists are blank, on other wrong options.

E.g. military semi FF gives me the options 'archers' and 'stronger'.

This is weird.

I see why the problem may occur, but I think it is strange that the problem occur.

I copied the cell from do you like to rush to all other yes/no questions. But in my file it works good, also at my brother pc it works good.

I assume you have the newest version ?

However, I have put a new version online, can you check of it does work correctly in that file ?

It looks like the problem was with Office 2010 only, but it is fixed now.

Version 1.03 is now online!

In this version you can also use the Civ Finder for treaty games.
However, in treaty you don't have many differences strategies, so most of the questions will disappear.
Some civs (French/Japanese) are just better than other civs (Iroquois/Ottoman).

In this version you can also leave some question empty if you want, it will still works.

I have now included the Cost Effectivness Calculator. With the CEC you can calculate and compare the cost effectivness of different units. You can choose to let them fight against each other or let them fight against an other unit

I will improve it in the future.

I Like the addition, couple of quick comments:

You appear to have an error in the formula that generate a divide by 0 error (cost effectiveness %).

Cost is best calculated using villager seconds, could you add a basic villager seconds calculator (would need to include different options for food (hunts/berries/herdables/mills) and gold?

A list of units and stats would go well with this, not suggesting that you create one as it would be very time consuming (although you would be considered a god if you created a comprehensive one .), but I believe MNbob has a reasonably up to date one you could reference.

I have fixed it and it should work now correctly.

I could add a basig calculator, but the rates in the proto file are not the empiric rates (hunting, mill). So it is not really relieble.

And I think I gonna add a list with al the base stats of all the units. And maybe later a list with upgrades. Where can I find that file from MNbob ?

Example what you can do with the CEC:
You are the British and fight against Russian (strelets).
How many units do you need to be as cost effective as your opponent ?
Here is the result:
Units - Ratio
Musket R1,24:1
Musket M0,62:1
Lbow R0,47:1
Lbow M0,72:1
Hussar0,12:1

So for his batch of 10 strelets you need 12/13 muskets
