Thread art by peugeot407

Like the last two Modding Contests, by gibbo1993, there is no theme. You can make everything you want. But in this Contest you must make two or more variations on the same unit. This could mean another gun, or shield, or a melee version and a ranged version.

Your imagination is the limit in this Contest, and you can submit any unit you want. It is also allowed to submit multiple units. Units don't have to be new, also older units from your own mod can be submitted.

Both examples are created by Captain_Soanso

The units will be judged on the following criteria:

- Unit Detail: Level of detail a unit displays. i.e. Does the belt have a buckle? Is there a belt? Can you tell what the unit is?

- Design: How well did the unit come together? Basic aesthetics: is it pleasing to the eye? Were the right things, like weapons and attachments, chosen, colored, or textured correctly? Does the archer's dark orange jetpack look good?

- Creativity/Originality: How creative you were in making your unit and how original it is.

- Variations: How do the variations look? Is the unit still recognizable? Would the units fit in an army together?

These criteria together are your Overall Score, the score that will be compared to other contestants.

To judge units, judges are needed (of course). The current judges are:

- peugeot407
- gibbo1993
- General_II
- alvaro_qc

For obvious reasons you can't be contestant and judge in the same contest. Judges should have modding experience.

The Rules:

- You can only enter units. Buildings or Props may be in the picture, but won't count toward your score.
- You can only enter units with two or more variations
- You can only enter your own units. You can't take units from an existing mod, unless the unit is your own work (and you can prove it is).
- You can enter multiple units.
- Forming teams of contestants is allowed.
- Units will only count if they're submitted before the deadline, which is Thursday 17 July 2008, 23:59.59 GMT.

Failure to the above rules will lead to disqualification.

Units will only be judged if submitted in the following way:

- Against black or white background in AoE3 Scenario Editor.
- With affordable size, max. 307.200 pixels (that's 640x480).
- Zoomed in, and on lowered view (5-25 degrees).
- Clearly visible.
- Not edited (except cropping and adding your name) in any program like Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro or GIMP

Current contestants:

- Tilanus Commodor
Roman Princeps - The Ancient Age Mod - Sword and Spear variations
- Io444
World War 2 Soldier - American version
World War 2 Soldier - German version
Getto Warrior

SUBMISSION DEADLINE (extended) = 17 July 2008, 23:59.59 GMT

Yay! Another Modding Contest!
I'm gonna mod something, dunno what, but I will.

By the way, your letters on wood aren't really visible. Example:
It's difficult to read black letters on a brown background.

I emailed him, but he mailed this back:
If I made it I would proboably miss the end by a few days anyway.
But perhaps he want to be a judge. We'll see.

i don't find this contest particularly compelling enough to desire to even consider entering something. it's basically an art contest anyways, and i don't think anyone finds art mods more interesting/enjoyable than gameplay mods. the context of any mod contest should be way broader and at least 3 months in duration, especially for an aging game.

Let me guess, you hate texturing?

Well, everyone submitting here and here didn't seem to have any problems with that.

Also, for simple art mods, a screenie tell enough. For gamplay mods, you'll need to upload the whole crap.

I'd suggest to keep only the American Rangers and German Soldiers, since all other units don't have variations, so don't count towards the competition. The American and German WWII soldiers are variations on the same model-and-attachments, so they would count as one unit. That's perhaps the best solution.

weel in that case i'll keep the two soldiers.
if i have time put more of my mods, but in this time with variations.

pd: the american and german soldier aren't the same model but they have the same animation.
