This forum will be used to post, show off, and openly discuss recorded games from our Recorded Games Download section. Also, feel free to ask any questions you have in this thread.

How to Watch:

  1. If you can not watch recorded games, it is most likely the file is not in its proper place. Once you have the file downloaded, take the file and move it into My Computer->My Documents->My Games->Age of Empires 3->Savegame.
  2. To watch it, pop in the Age of Empires 3 disk, at the Main Menu go to Help and Tools->Recorded Games.

How to Upload:

  1. Go to our downloads section, and login with your forum username and password.
  2. Click the 'submit file' ( ) button. Follow the instructions as they are given. Note that you will not have to wait for your rec to be approved; it will be done automatically and instantly. Also make sure that your file is zipped. You can either use Windows XP's built in ZIP feature or download WinZip free from www.winzip.com.
  3. Go back to the rec section of the downloads, and click on the link for your rec, which will bring up a page showing the rec information.
    "=
  4. Copy the link for this page from the address bar, which should look something like this:

Then paste it into the topic of a new thread in this forum. Make sure you enclose the link with url tags, e.g.

    [url]http://aoe3.heavengames.com/downloads/showfile.php?fileid=446[/url]

Note: When you try to copy the url you may find the url is very long, instead of the shorter version shown above. If this is the case then just copy it up until the "id=xxx" bit as shown above.

How to Post a Thread:

  1. When posting a thread about your rec, it would be best to follow a simple format. Simply for the topic use "Your ESO name" vs. "Your opponents ESO name." Fell free to add clan tags and the map you played on.
  2. In the topic post, repost the thread, include the map and a brief explanation of what happened. But don't give away the ending or most of the interesting points, let the watcher view the excitement too .
  3. Possibly explain each person's strategy, or pointing out key points in the game that may have swung the game to favor one person that may be easy not to notice.
  4. And finally, make sure that you provide the link to your rec so people can upload it!

Miscellaneous

  1. Make sure to rename your file before uploading it. IE, do not leave it named as "Recorded Game 1" because then it will overwrite the downloader's file.
  2. When uploading it onto the site, please name it as you would post a thread: "Your ESO name" vs. "Your opponent's ESO name" map names and clan tags are welcome as well.

So get those games uploaded here and downloaded on your computer. Happy viewing!

Nope, it's there (along with what appears to be my... homecities?).

Still not showing up in game, though. Blargh;

Then its right.

The problem must be in the file. Are you sure it ias a .age3rec or a .age3xrec?

im having a problem with watching recorded games. well first when i tried saving a recorded game into

My Computer->My Documents->My Games->Age of Empires 3->Savegame

i found that there was no savegame folder within my age of empires 3 folder. so i made a new folder named savegame and put a recorded game in there. then i tried to watch it but age of empires 3 said it was an iccorrect file path or something

can anyone help

i have had this same problem, for some reason the savegame folder doesn't show. You have to have a savegame folder, as that's where your home cities are saved along with any campaigns etc.

What i did to resolve this was use the windows search programme to search "savegame" and the aoe3 folder comes up. I then created a shortcut to it on the desktop so that i always have it handy.

This isnt a technical answer i'm afraid but it's what i did and i've never had the problem since. It'd be interesting to know why that folder sometimes doesnt show?

From the main menu when you start your game, go:

Help and Tools > Recorded Games.
This will take you to an option like you're viewing inside a folder and the games you saved in 'savegames' should be displayed here, just double click on one. Hope this helps.

When you have more games it might be worth making sub folders which will also be displayed.
For example in the My Computer->My Documents->My Games->Age of Empires 3->Savegame just create a new folder called 'My Games' and then it will be displayed when you go onto the game.

Well, I did all the above, but I get an error message, saying the file is invalid. I've tried this with several different files, but the same result.

Okay, so the answer is: "Age3Xrec. are for TWC only." What does that mean, and how can I watch these files?

[I actually tried changing it to "Age3rec", but got the same error message.]

everything i read here doesn't help me...

I download the file, unzip it, put it in the savegame folder.

one of the files i dled works, one works but is for a different game than what it said, and the other gets an error.

the one that works was .age3rec

the other 2 were age3xrec, and i changed them to age3rec.

are they supposed to be age3xrec? and if so, why dont they work for me?

Age3xrec only works for TWC.
