If you have a router you will need to set the following ports "open" to play multiplayer with computers on the other side of the router:

28800-29000 (TCP)
2300-2400 (TCP)
2300-2400 (UDP)
47624 (TCP)

Most routers are configured through a web site located at the name of the local IP address they invent for themselves. This is usually 192.168.2.1 or 192.168.1.1. This would bring up a password page. After entering the password you would go through some menu of settings to open the above ports.

If your router is fancy and wants a "trigger port" for each open range of ports, use the following settings:

28800 (UDP) as a trigger port for 2300-2400, 47624 (TCP)
28800 (UDP) as a trigger port for 2300-2400, 47624 (UDP)
47624 (TCP) as a trigger port for 2300-2400 (TCP)
47624 (TCP) as a trigger port for 2300-2400 (UDP)
6667 (TCP) as a trigger port for 28800-29000 (TCP)

For some routers (mine, for example) this still will not allow you to host a game on the internet. But you should be able to join a game.

If you have a router the game's internal "What is my IP?" function does not work. It tells you the local IP your router assigns your computer instead of the WAN IP your router uses to communicate with the internet. To find your WAN IP go to http://whatismyip.com/.

Another Dlink site with direct links to manuals, useful help files, etc.

http://www.dlink.com.au/tech/

Try updating your modem firmware if your connection doesnt work.

for some routers it might also be 192.168.0.1

For those in colleges, no luck there They usually change the password of the routers.

I have been having some trouble joining and hosting games on the Zone. I have a new router since the last time I was successful at hosting.

How do I know if my router will be able to host? Are there certain ports to open/trigger to host? I have an RP614v2 Netgear.

Netgears website lists port 23978 in addition to the ones you have listed.

BTY I couldn't play on the zone until I also forwarded 6667 TCP under app name zone.com in the setup utility

What about router settings that will allow multiple players behind the same router to connect to another player via IP (as opposed to playing on a LAN or the Zone)

Good post. I'll sticky this until someone takes this down, because I personally know nothing about the routers

It's copy/paste of the post at TOAO I linked to in the FAQ. I probably should have done that ages ago... would have saved like 200 threads.

I don't know why they would be different. Have you been able to do that on the zone but NOT via direct IP?

BTY, I managed to play a 1v1 on the zone last night versus another person at my place with and without using dxport. I have XP SP2 and my router does UPNP so maybe that is why I could do it w/o dxport. Somebody mentioned security issues with UPNP being a good reason to use dxport even if it isn't necessary...anybody know anything about that?

I am using a Belkin Router and still can't play via zone.

Followed the instructions above and still no luck.

Any help will be appreciated.

DX-port. it will open the ports used by any game that used DirectX.

I have a problem. I opened the ports on my router and DMZ hosted my router for the conquerors and I still cannot join or host a game through ip. My friend did the same to his router, and he sees my game up when i give him my Wan ip, but when he hit join he wait and wait and never gets in the game. Please help, thanks.

I am clueless as far as what to do with this, so any "Port Triggers for Dummies" kind of step-by-step will be much appreciated. I can log into my router site fine, and under Networking there is the Port Trigger window, but I have no idea what to do based on these instructions:

If your router is fancy and wants a "trigger port" for each open range of ports, use the following settings:
28800 (UDP) as a trigger port for 2300-2400, 47624 (TCP)
28800 (UDP) as a trigger port for 2300-2400, 47624 (UDP)
47624 (TCP) as a trigger port for 2300-2400 (TCP)
47624 (TCP) as a trigger port for 2300-2400 (UDP)
6667 (TCP) as a trigger port for 28800-29000 (TCP)

Here is what it looks like and what I tried to enter, just guessing at what might go where. I didn't think it would work, and it didn't...
[JPEG, (54.98 KB)]

So what numbers go where to make that work?

Thanks for your help,
Shaz

This stuff is so confusing, I have a problem playing on the zone like I guess alot of people do. A member + said that I needed to setup a DMZ on my firewall. I have no idea how to access my router or anything, and that first post makes no sense to me. Could some put it in simple terms please?

alright, open up internet explorer or whatever browser you use, and type in 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.2.1.

What router are you using?

Nevermind, right after I Posted that I talked to a computer guy that works on the campus where I live. He told me why it wouldn't work (the school has a $2000 firewall) and he is gonna see if the school will let him fix it (I'm on the school's server). Thank you for trying to help though .

I have a Netgear WGT624 Wireless Router.

I am able to open up a port so I can play AOC on the zone fine. But the router only lets me open one port for one computer. It will not let me open the same port for somebody else. So my brother can not play AOC on the zone or at the same time as me.

This is a problem because it keeps us from playing other games at the same time. We always have to switch IP's for the port. Does anybody know how to have more than one computer on the same port for a Netgear router?

I really like to play on Zone.com now. But i have a router and that means that i have to open my ports to be able to play the game and be able to join a game.

But i do not have any idea where i can open or change my port settings, so can someone tell me which steps i need to take to open my ports and be able to play Age of Empire at Zone.com again?

PS: My internet provider is: (do you need to know this?)
Name of the router box: Zylox

I've been getting a lot of strange security alerts while connected to the zone lately.

Norton says that is has blocked some kind of MS SQL attack on my computer, but then it says that the attacking computer is my own IP adress, and that the victim is some other IP that i'm not familiar with.

Weird shit.
