Yeah, this is the same project that I made a screenshot thread for. I figured I might as well advertise it, and so get some playtesters for the Prologue I've created. I'll go into detail about the story when I've worked it all out, some things are still a little iffy at this point.

Basically, you start out as Captain William Marbury of His Most Britannic Majesty's Royal Navy. (I want an uber 1337 title like that) Then, a messenger arrives in Southampton, your home, requesting that you come with him to New Chaseford, a previously settled colony in the Caribbean.

I won't go into detail about what I will feature, because I have no clue if I will even finish this. (Actually, this might be completed.)

Download the prologue here.

Please leave comments! Also, tell me whether you like it as it is, or if you think it could be interesting with a quest to get 100 gold to pay the fee of sailing on the ship. I can do either, I would just like to know which would be favored.

Features: aka Empty Promises.
* = Planned feature
¤ Four (4) 18th century towns and villages to explore.
¤ Become a smuggler or pirate *
¤ Large main quest and several side quests
¤ Music and sound effects from the Pirates of the Caribbean PC video game
¤ Open ended, RPG style quests
¤ Item and Health system
¤ Possibly an Experience system, but it's probably not going to be needed
¤ Buy-able ships

C00l Stuff: This is the part where I act all cool and such!
¤ Over 25 triggers!!11
¤ AMAZInG Map dseign!
¤ Crazy shisno muzak!1
¤ BETTERER than any CAMPAIGNS EVEN ULIO SABATo lol!11

*Sings* Rule, Britannia! Britannia rules the waves! Never, never never never shall Britons be slaves.

Or something like that anyway

Looking really good, Colo. Unfortunately, I am at a critical period in my educative life and thus have no time to do anything else but hard slog (and trying to avoid it as much as possible )

I love the title image. So suave.

I stand my ground when I say your a talented designer.

I really liked the prolouge, but however, I was disapointed that I couldn't see the entire port during the cutscene. It was quite a map and should've been used to the fullest.

Oh well.

Do you think it would be improved with a short part where you have to get money to pay the fee?

I really didn't like the town myself...

no, it would wasted and pointless time. Unless you added a few challenges, like bandits, a time limit, ect.

Excellent Dialogue!

The only minor issue I had was that I thought the Player 1 (blue) position needed a Player X (blue) stand in position for the ownership changes.

I found the short scene interesting and the letter intriguing...there was a lot of nice touches and I didn't find any bugs.

Maybe to rethink the initial instruction to just sit back and watch? Although I had no difficulty with the objective, I just had this vision of Cheesesteak Jimmy sitting there waiting for the scenario to continue.

The map design is fantastic.

The theme is very interesting and I can't wait to play more of this and learn the rest of the story. The prologue did exactly what it should, made me want to play the next scenario. Well done Colo!

Ok, I tested it and it was amazing. But IMO the Captain should be tasked to the ship himself rather than by us. And oh on his way back to New Chaseford, when the Captain boards the HMS Conqueror, there is a small conversation, out there you've got the spelling of travelling as traveling.
And, when the Captain and the Messenger go to the Town Hall, the distance between the Guard, Messenger and Captain is too little. I think some spacing is needed.
I know I'm soo.. irratating. . Thats all. And the music was amazing!

I did not misspell traveling. It can be spelled both ways.

Having him tasked to the ship makes the player wake up.

Just seen the prologue,and I realized how you are good at designing

My opinions have written by RoH;

If AoK could do variables, I'd add a reputation system. Unfortunately it can't.

Thanks Paladin.

EDIT: I'm still planning this, but it might work:

Reputation System:

Click the Priest.

"Hello Father."
>
"Hello, my son."
>
"Can I talk with you, father? I can tell by your face that something worries you..."
>
if (reputation > 75) then
{"Yes yes... (proceeds to talk about something bad...}
else (reputation < 75) then
{"Get out of here, you swindler!"}

With "reputation" as a variable, with differing numbers responding to different levels of reputation.

1-10 Horrible
11-20 Swindler
21-30 Rascal
31-40 Bastard
41-50 Shifty
51-60 Decent
61-70 Bloke
71-80 Matey
81-90 Dashing
91-100 Hero

If anyone knows how to do this, please tell me!

Hey Colo!
My apologies for downloading the Prologue without permission. I was tempted! But ofcourse, I must give you feedback:
I loved your prologue, very intriguing. The map design was excellent, and the music was beautiful! I notice, as RoH did, that the Guard is too close to William's home. Secondly, when the Messenger is tasked to the Guard, he approaches too close to the Guard, the horse virtually licking his face! Ofcourse, this is just a minor issue.
I also noticed that one of the ships, "HMS Australia," is misspelt, unless it is supposed to be. Overall, the prologue has no bugs and is a perfect start to a perfect campaign!
In my opinion, the Prologue is good the way it is, there's no need to add side-quests like gold collection.
Also, if possible, it would be better to fix the position of the Conqueror, because I could simply right-click on it, and it would sail all the way to someother unapprochable part. Just a precautionary approach.

On the whole, I loved your prologue, and I can't wait for the next scenario!
Oh, and the reputation thing, I think BJ submitted a related utility recently, maybe that could help you.

Colo, I like your idea for a reputation system

Maybe you can use a resource (like stone)to keep track of the reputation ranking - it's been done before for morale and health systems.

pulkit: No problem. The ship's name is probably a typo. Which one do you mean when you say guard?

I was talking about the Guard beside the Town Hall. The cavalry guard, with whom we have a dialogue. This is the same guard mentioned by RoH. How's the progress?

Yo, Colo. I think there was a way to do the reputation system... um, check the Grand Theft Empires thread, it was somewhere in there. What you could do is use the 'Kill Ratio' trigger, or use an AI Goal as Milita Mouse says.

Good luck with the scenario. I was going to do something like it, but I'll leave it to you! I think I'll just stick to being an author, I'm only good at that!

Hope this helps.
