Yesterday, BacT and TaToH kicked off the TEC Platinum League with an exciting series of 4 games that they ended up splitting 2-2. The level of civ and map variety was quite refreshing and nice to see and produced a number of exciting matchups to start the league off on the right foot.

I'll be updating the tables as we go. I'll only update rank after all players have played an equal number of games, though, as rank isn't really indicative of much when there are players who have played less games than others.

With a 3-0 drubbing of 8thWonder, RiuT takes the league's first series win. Despite the lopsided result, the games were closer than one might think, and provided some excellent entertainment!

I've been quite impressed so far with the variety in civ matchups and gameplay styles. The nature of AoC balance means that only a small pool of civs are realistically viable unless there's a ban on certain civs or it's a mirror matchup, but Zak has done quite a good job with the settings in ensuring that the issues that have plagued many past tournaments are marginalized as much as possible

Unsurprisingly, The_Viper pulled off a decisive 3-1 victory over Lojza, who nevertheless put up a good fight.

Additionally, the Gold League kicked off to a great start with Hera and Edie fighting to a 2-2 tie.

I am loving the high use of other civilizations. Banning Huns/Aztecs/Mayans/Vikings from the first map has led to really interesting choices. I am especially pleased that Mongols/Japanese/Chinese have not been the de facto choices for all. Briton dominance in several games has been quite sweet to watch.

Indeed! I was rather worried that banning those four civs would simply lead to everyone picking Mongols and Celts (which has happened a lot), but the extra civ variety is nice to see.

It would nevertheless be better, imo, if the next season is played on Carlos's balance patch, because even with the regulation of the settings there is still only a small pool of viable civs in many matchups and several civs will probably not see more than a game or two at most of playtime.

I liked the really fast viper game on civil war and the Edie tower defense game..

I'm going to take a look at the civil war rms if someone can get it to me, it's actually pretty similar to my map idea
