The AOKH AI Scripting Ladder

Welcome to the continuous AOKH AI Scripting Ladder. If you want to join, simply post a link to your AI and the civilization you wish your AI to play as. If you submit an AI, please download and copy this resign file to your AI folder and add this line to the top of your main AI file:

(load "resign - AI Ladder")

The scoring system is simple. For every win, an AI will receive 1 point, and every loss will receive -1 points. Draws are worth 0 points. All new AIs will start with 0 points. Each AI is assigned to a certain league, but may move from one league to the other. The leagues have a maximum of eight AIs and are organized by playing ability:

Paladins League - Expert AIs
Cavaliers League - Advanced AIs
Knights League - Intermediate AIs
Vassals League - Promising AIs
Squires League - Beginner AIs

New AIs will be placed in the Squires League. An Interleague Round will be played at the end of each season (7 rounds). During this, the top AI of a league will play a game against the bottom AI of the league above it. The winner is promoted to the upper of the two leagues, and the loser is demoted likewise. If there are AIs tied for these positions, then a game (or games) will be played to decide which AI will be promoted or demoted. These extra games will not count as points. However, if an AI is three points above or below all other scripts in its league at the end of a round, that AI will play an additional Interleague game after that round ends.

If you are joining the ladder for the first time, we have listed some scripts that you can test your AI against in addition to the standard computer AI. You can find this list in the standings for the Squires League.

Game Requests: Also, if you would like your AI to play against a specific AI in addition to the normal cycle games, just post a request and the game will be played. The game will count for points unless requested otherwise. Requested games are limited to one game against each AI per cycle. Also, you may not request a game against an AI that has fewer points than your AI, unless that AI is in a higher league than your AI.

Schedule:

Those who are willing to judge and record these games (anyone can judge a game), please post for which games you would like to play. Authors should not judge games that contain their own AI. All games should be played on Hard difficulty, Arabia, 200 pop, low resources. Games will be considered a draw if they last more than two hours, thus you can end the game after two hours if you wish.

If you review a game, please make sure that your AI folder contains this resign file, and please make sure that at least one AI loads the resign file.
The old AIScripters tournament resign file (the one that forces AIs to resign after three hours) can also be used if an AI loads it instead.

It is recommended that the judges cheat "natural wonders" so that there is no possibility of interference from the judge. However, if you feel that this would hamper your ability to review the game you may opt not to do this, as long as you provide the recorded game.Once the game is finished, please write a short review of the game. Provide helpful comments on what were each AI's weak points so that the authors of the scripts can know how to update them. Also post the recorded game link along with the review. To make it easier for us to gather information from the reviews, please post the reviews of the games in this format (just copy it into your post and edit it):

I suggest to put in only AIs submitted by their scripter; this is common practice ^^

Thank you IS for the advice.
Sorry that we didn't come up with this common practice.

Then something like this till we wait for some entries?

Of course I will mate. The AI will be called "Random Task" and erm...it will be random civs.

Need to tie up a few loose ends in it yet but then I shall upload it to my server/ blacksmith and link it here for whoever wants to host the games.

I shall also attempt to contact the authors of those AIs Leif suggested and get their blessing to use them in our ladder

Hmm...

I'm going to have to work on my AIs some more before I submit them, or they may end up with a record losing streak...

It's not like your going to lose money if your AI is bobbins or no sex if you lose >.<

The old AIs were more like fillers until more AIs enter. I'll remove them from the list. I'd like to keep AllianceThundaEmpire on the list though, because it's a sort of standard that scripters try to defeat. From my knowledge, the author of AllianceThundaEmpire was banned but it seems like RubberMan was able to contact him. If we get permission by the authors to use their AIs then I may put them back into the list.

You would be able to update your AI at any time. I think that the AI would keep its statistics instead of starting over so that you could visibly see an AI climbing through the ranks.

Are all of the settings okay with everyone? I didn't post the time limit because I didn't know what we decided on that. I'm in support of a 3 hour time limit since we would want to limit ties.

So were going for low resources?

As for the authors...

2 no shows that seem to have gone; Swan and Farmatron came back to me undelivered.

I guess it depends on the dates when they were written to wheather or not we find the authors. We can naught but try.

I shall have to go away shortly (Pakistan ewww) so wont be around for a bit. I shall upload an unfinished AI that so far only plays Britons. (Testing it against Leif as I type)

I will update it when I return (not even sure when I go yet >.< awaiting a bloody visa as usual)

As far as alliance goes then yes I do believe we should have that one in for sure as you are quite correct.

Most scripters beat the comp on hard first and then progress to try and defeat Alliance in my experience.

I have sent emails to the following authors;

Swan - Undeliverable
Farmatron - Undeliverable
Kosmos - Awaiting answer
VNS_Halen - Awaiting answer
Alliance - I think its the author!
Saiyan - Awaiting answer
SlakBot - Awaiting answer

Anymore you would like me to contact then please by all means post their AI link here and I shall try to track them down.

I've updated the ladder in response to Duck and ARFFI's posts, though I kept AllianceThundaEmpire in there. If it's all right with all of you, I'd like to keep it in there unless the author says he doesn't want it in there.

I think that once we get 8 AIs well get this started. I've signed up for the first two games. Will we want to avoid authors judging games that contain their AI? If so, I'll sign up for the third game instead of the second.

I'm looking forward to your AI RubberMan. Don't worry overly much with trying to get a response from those scripters. It will be nice if we can use them, but I think it'll be okay without them.

Also, to keep the cycles shorter, I'm in favor of having just two rounds per cycle where each AI will only play the AI above and below it. What's your opinion?

If you all want to start this right away then post and we'll get it going!

Is a three hour time limit the time limit we want to use?

Im going to host the next game in the tourny (should be a good one Dave V Duck ) but after that I will upload "Random Task" to my site and link it here.

Like I said though it only plays Britons atm and only tested on standard resources, arabia, tiny so it will be interesting to see how he does.

It'll be great to have your AI in here RubberMan. Don't mind the settings it plays as. The settings you listed are the settings we're using in the ladder. If we wanted to we could change the map type from one cycle to another so that we could round out our AIs in all aspects of gameplay.

So, we'll have six AIs with RubberMan's AI. Duck, do you want your IS_Machine in here?

Well someday we might see the trouble I wrote, but till then, I think it is OK.
Please remember that some strong AIs also has predators and sometimes the predators are much weeker against other than that specific AI.

The new version has some significant differences, especially in early castle age. As a result it should not be that easy to rush or flush it. The downside is that its booming abilitys are more limited.

Great, zergs and bari. I'll add your AIs to the list. All we need is another AI, probably RubberMan's and I think we will start.

Ladder updated. As we now have 8 AIs on our list, I will play games 1 and 3. The Horde and Random Task don't have a link, but I assume they will have them shortly.

It would be great if we have a site to upload the recorded games. The Blacksmith is definitely not a good place for this.

Also, if DaVe or another moderator could sticky this that would be great!

To get things started here, I make the first move by running Alliance Thunda vs Leif Ericson.

For this game I will use the version of AT in the blacksmith, however I have a more recent version of AT in my AI folder. Should I use the other games later?

Running what I suppose will be an interesting game and will edit the result here later.

Edit: We have the first ladder leader!

The game started with the usual sheep, berrys and farming on both sides. Alliance with the persians opted for fast castle age while the vikings stayed in feudal age a little longer. Although Alliance had a small lack of wood in feudal age as it spent the incoming wood on farms rather than the stable Leif didn't attempt to make any use of Alliance's bad 20:xx castle age time.

Leif advanced to castle age at 27 min and started hostilities at around the 30min mark with longswordsman and eskirms which Alliance easily repelled with his knights. Later Leif added some knights, berserk and spearmans, which were never upgraded to pikeman to his unit mix. As the game continues Leif attacked again and again thoough while hopelessly outnumbered.

Alliance did not bother to counter attack. Instead he advanced to imperial age and waited until his unit mix of knights, light cavalry, camels and handcannoneers got the majority of upgrades. Finally at around 50 minutes he decided to attack forcing Ericson to resign at 1:04:26.

Recorded game can be downloaded here.

Thanks zergs for running that game. The result was expected. I didn't expect to beat such a mighty opponent as Alliance. My thinking is that since this is on AOK Heaven we should use the version of Alliance that is in the Blacksmith, but I'll leave this up for others to make the final verdict. If many want to use the newer version we can use the newer version.

RubberMan, if you can make a webpage for recorded games on your site that would be great!

I've posted the result, and I'm going to update the ladder standings. I think since we have a schedule posted, we will be able to update the ladder after every game instead of after every round.

Great! This thread is stickied now.

I've played two games, reviewed below.

Game 1: Standard Computer (Spanish) vs. Eyries (Mayans):

As it is hard to predict who won, I'll try not to give too many hints as I review this game.

The standard computer was assigned Spanish and decided to call itself Cardinal Jimenez. Eyries, usually scripted for Aztecs, was given the civilization of his close cousin, the Mayans. Both AIs started gathering resources and training villagers like normal. One interesting not is that the Cardinal Jimenez decided to send his hunters on an exotic hunting trip to the distant countryside. Eyries hunted outside of his town also, but he was at least smart enough to build a mill by the deer.

The feudal age passed by without event for both AIs. Around 21 minutes Jimenez tried to build forward buildings next to Eyries town. However, Eyries from his high nest discovered Jimenez's threat and utterly destroyed the buildings. Jimenez tried a 15-man attack around 30 minutes, which failed. After that, Eyries began his large attack soon after. Jimenez managed to squeeze a couple conquistadors and skirmishers out, but not even the bravest warrior can win when he is outnumbered 20 to 1, so Jimenez surrendered at 47:59.

Game 2: De'gel (Franks) vs. Kosmos 2.42 (Byzantines)

Both AIs progressed normally. Kosmos sent in a knight rush around 25 minutes, which De'gel defended against easily. Kosmos tried again around 37 minutes into the game, which was also unsuccessful. However, De'gel assumed a defensive posture, which Kosmos took advantage of. At around 45 minutes he sent in a huge wave of all sorts of soldiers. It was a long fight, but Kosmos's armies slowly overcame De'gel's strong defense. The game ended at 1:30:17. De'gel might have won if she had attacked Kosmos.

For some odd reason, WinRar won't put my recorded games into a zip file (it says the games are a corrupted file) so I can't uploaded them here. I'm sorry for that.

Also, zerg's Horde AI was recently approved in the Blacksmith. Please download the AI if you plan to play a game.

Good stuff mate. I shall attempt to make an upload page for the games later (although that isnt really my niche) and will also upload my contender for the ladder.

If you have games that you want on there you could email them me for now and I will update manually?

I'm happy for my AI to be part of this. Do I need to upload it somewhere or can you get it from the tournament (rubberman should have it at least I think)? I will probably try to improve it at some stage in the future but it might be a while before I get round to it.

I have it mate. I will be quite happy to link a download of it on my server if you will permit me?

Was thinking something like this Leif;

http://www.im247.co.uk/AOK/ladder

Obviously I spent a "long" time doing that lol

3 titles accross the top;

Date; AI V AI; and download link

If you guys think of more or even want to do the page then just mention it. I really dont have time to do much more than just generally host the games right now.

============= Edit =================

Random-Task V1.00

Totally unfinished but something to be going on with mate.

Currently only plays as Britons, Tiny map, any land map, low-standard resources.

RubberMan's AI is now loaded up. Make sure you all download it. We need some judges for the next games.

RubberMan, just copy the url of that recorded game from the topic post by going to view source. The games I recorded didn't seem to be able to be uploaded, though the files work.

That page looks pretty good to me. Just look at the recent games section in the topic post to see what I think the columns should be (date, AIs, Winner, and Download). I think it's best to list them with the most recent first.

De`Gel V Lief Ericson

Lief sits in the blue corner whilst ARFFI's De`Gel gets the red. All working nicely with standard starts then De`Gel shocks us with a 12 minute feudal

"dark times are over" says Lief at 13 minutes and clicks to feudal with 31 villagers in tow. 15 minutes or so and Lief hits the feudal age with a decent economy and already starting to train militia.

25:30 and De`gel rises to castle age with a mediocre military at best. Lief holds its own with a plethera of soldiers fully upgraded at this point. If Lief had attacked early it may have been able to take an early bath and despatch De`gel before it could enhance its economy!

Instead.....a sneaky attack by De`gel with everything its got, upgrading them on the way.

Lief hits castle during the attack and suffers heavy losses from De`gels advances.

Lief's villagers was doomed from the start of the attack and soon after De`gel was running riot inside Lief's town knocking down its houses, farms and eventually town centre.

There was no way back for Lief although he looked like he would be the victor early on, De`gels castle age spelled the end for Lief.

Game time: 46 minutes.

Recorded game here > http://www.im247.co.uk/AOK/ladder

P.S. sorry about the white text >.< I shall have to do something about that at a later date but for now I just wanted to see if the page worked!

Actually Eyrie's was made for the aztec civ. This time he was facing them as enemy!

While Alliance Thunda went for an eagle rush Eyries as celts did some sort of semi fast castle with crossbows and skirmishers. At the 23min mark Alliance started the combat. Eyries didn't stand any chance. Soon EWs were chasing the celts all over the map. None of them escaped and their last military facility was burnt down at 45:12.

One seemingly easy point for Alliance Thunda. Replay can be found here.

Edit @ RubberMan: Your download works fine for me. However the game refuses to run the replay as it seems you don't have patch 1.0c.

It says something like the old recorded game can't be loaded. I don't have the exact text as my AoC isn't english. I always thought this text is caused by the unpatched version. Obiously I am wrong.

Btw I fixed an urgent bug that caused my AI to be unable to build any stables when in defense against flushes. Please make sure you download version 2.02 for playing. Sorry for any inconvenience.

First, thank you WilldThing and Bari for joining us.
Happy to meet you here too.^^

Also, GG Bari, Mabuse, (Peterson <- who is him?) and Leif.
Great pleasure to chalenge your scripts.^^
De`Gel V Lief Ericson

Great that the fast-feudal worked.^^
But be aware, Bari's Kosmos shall show a real flush for us.^^

@RubberMan
Do you use any tools while playing the games?
I know some tools that crashes the rec. game as some tools that speed up the games.

>I have your old version of the hoard and keep meaning to play it but have never bloody got around to it.

You will quickly see what the "Hord" means.^^

PS:
Leif, "ARFFI" not "AFRRI" for De'gel.^^
The name in the "Standings:" is miss written.

(Peterson <- who is him?)
Sandy Peterson, (aka ES_Sandyman) is the man on Ensemble Studios who wrote the AI that comes in the game. He's famous here at AOKH for his Ask Sandyman interviews. I thought people might like to know the author of the standard computer AI.
Leif, "ARFFI" not "AFRRI" for De'gel.^^
The name in the "Standings:" is miss written.
Sorry, ARFFI. I guess my fingers got mixed up when I typed that in. It should be fixed now.

WildThing or RubberMan, if we could get the Wild Hun AI in here that would be great.

The Horde (Huns) vs. Random-Task (Britons)
You will quickly see what the "Hord" means.^^
Well, now you shall see! Both AIs progressed like normal, except a couple of Random-Task's villagers decided to explore before gathering resources. In the feudal age, Random-Task started making a large army of all sorts of soldiers, including scout cavalry. The Horde made a plethora of skirmishers. When Random-Task advanced to the Castle Age, he started making large amounts of crossbowmen and skirmishers. The Horde trained cavalry archers and cavalry to supplement his skirmishers. The Horde attacked soon after, and Random-Task's army of crossbowmen was annihilated by The Horde's skirmishers. The Horde's army kept on attacking the outskirts of Random-Task's town. When The Horde sent in a group of capped rams and cavaliers Random-Task's town crumbled.

Game Time: 59:38

I thought I might as well play that last game, so here's the description of:

Kosmos 2.42 (Mayans) vs. The Horde (Huns)

Both began like normal. Kosmos advanced first and attacked with a flush soon after The Horde advanced to the Castle Age. The flush failed. Kosmos tried again after he advanced to the Castle Age, but his attack failed again. The Horde launched an attack of his own, which also failed. Kosmos's last attack failed, and then The Horde launched a fierce attack with large numbers of cavalry archers and light cavalry. Kosmos wasn't able to defend himself from it, and The Horde won.

Game Time: 49:33

The recorded game failed to upload, again . I think it is probably the computer I'm using. The previous game was on another computer.

So, the ladder is updated and the schedule for the next cycle should be posted. However, let's delay the ladder for a bit to see if we can get WildThing's AI in here first.
