This is what I'm working on at the moment, hopefully I'll manage to put in around the same number of units as the previous modpack.



Achilles, Hercules,
Leonidas, Spartacus & Jason



Thankallos (any suggestions for a new name are welcome lol) and Perseus

ehmmm... theyr names...
Do you know the storyes of theese heroes? the association with the unit isn't so good, also if textures and moder are amazing...
Hercules with a roman dress... he should have the nemean lion skin...
Your Spartacus is the only unit similar to a greek soldier, but unfortunatelly, Spartacus was roman, not greek....
And Leonidas should fight with a spear...

However, if i don't consider theyr names, great units!

I can barely understand what you're trying to say...

If you think Hercules is wearing a roman dress maybe you should take a look at half of the greek units in AOM lol?

Spartacus was Thracian, which was part of greece.

Leonidas looks fine to me with a sword and shield, I'm not basing him on the movie.

I'm still not too sure whether the final versions of 'spartacus' and 'leonidas' will keep those names, I've been looking through greek demigod names and was thinking of using those instead. Also I'm planning on putting these units in there too, theres a perseus (bottom left in the second picture) model in there but I'm open to suggestions for names:-





- maybe instead of gladiators these could be more heroes

edit - oh btw I know how to fix your texture problem with your idle animation on the mod you made, let me know if you haven't done it already

To be honset, I think you should make the gladiators into normal units, and they be called "Renegades"
in order from left to right

Renegade Axeman - uses Ulfasark animations
Renegade Swordsman - uses Theseus animations
Renegade Berserker - uses fanatic animations
Renegade Javilineer - uses greek javilineer animations

Haha you know originally I was going to but I think I'm going to either remove the black parts from their helmets/add faces or just add completely new heads and remove the old ones since there are already a lot of really good normal unit mods.

With animations I have to do each separately I can't transfer animtions from other aom units but I can try and make them similar.

Still also need to think about some decent hero names for them but I was thinking of renaming 'spartacus' to menelaus (agamemnon's brother)

Why does the xpacklanguage.dll file sometimes needs to be included with a mod? what does it do?

if you make a new unit, the name of the unit will start with '***'
This is because for every ingame tekst there should be a translation id. All this translation codes are in language.dll or xpacklanguage.dll for chocolate contected with their adjectant sentences or words.

the *** indicates that there is no sentence found in the dll with the appropriate language code given with the new unit.

the problem is that everything is in one file. Its easy if you would change the gamelanguage from english to dutch you just have to change one file. but when you add a unit you have to add that one new sentence all the time when installing a mod, so it would be easier to just give the whole file. But that way, you can only install one language.dll per mod at the time.

So you can hand edit the DLL file? It should be compiled code in machine language. I guess you insert text into a 'resource' section then?

Well there is this program, Vachu's text editor or something like that, that uses a copy of the orginial decoded language.dll to create a new version with custom sentences

so be sure to backup the original.

I just use Resource Hacker to edit the .dll files.
It's a super simple thing to use.

I was asking because now I am the one to approve files in the D/L section, and I was too dumb to know that by including the language dll file, that they weren't really including an original copyrighted file, but an essential part of modding.

Uhm well not too dumb about that..

Modding means breaking copyrights/author-rights by definition. Modifying someone else's work without caring about their authorization (< its in the word).
I don't really get why you are making a difference between files in mods anyway, since they all break the copyrights of Ensemble Studios on Age of Mythology.
