Greetings, Designers. Many people in the past have been wondering why we could never really place archers on top of walls to fire upon the enemy from. While creating a Helm's Deep template for someone, I managed to discover my own little trick on creating an illusion for this. Here is the process...
Step 1: Simply create a row of walls like you would for any other scenario. I prefer using the beta walls with map copy though. I feel it looks a bit better.
Step 2: Use the map copy tool to create a row of bridges behind the walls. This is supposed to represent the stone floor atop of the walls. Make sure you are using bridge ends, because using middle pieces will give you a row of water once the scenario starts.
Step 3: Place a row of stone walls along the back of the bridge. Then using a trigger, use the damage object effect to damage the row of stone walls by 1700. This will downsize them when the game starts.
Step 4: Using the cliff tool, place a straight line of cliff right through the beta walls, which should also cover about half of the bridge. Cliffs can go through anything, and the point of this is to baricade the archers from going right in front of the walls, and showing their outline. This will keep the archers "On Top" of the wall. The only downside to this is that melee units will not be able to attack the walls, because the cliff is in the way. Seige Weapons are more appropriate anyway, IMO. If any pieces of cliff are still showing, just use the rotation trick to hide them.
Step 5: Since units cannot be placed on bridges inside the editor, you will have to just use map copy to place them on the Stone Floor (Bridge). Just be careful you don't paste it right in the middle, or you might delete the bridge.
WOW! *eyes go in and out* Very creative! I don't find any problem at all with the bridges or the wall! It looks so fantastic!!!!!!!

What a discovery!!
By the way, I think the sayin, "an image equals a thousand words" is very good.
"Especially awe-inspiring is the fact that any single brain is made up of atoms that were forged in the hearts of countless stars billions of years ago... These atoms now form a conglomerate your brain that can not only ponder the very stars that gave it birth but can also think about its own ability to think and wonder about its own ability to wonder. With the arrival of humans the universe has suddenly become conscious of itself. This, truly, is the greatest mystery of all." - Rama

But wait, what if the enemy knocks down the outer wall? The rest of the "wall roof" might look somewhat bizarre.

I was thinking about that too, so I think the best thing to do with this is for cut scene scenarios, or RPGs when the units can't possibly tear it down without any seige weapons.
That's a class piece of eyecandy, Echuu. Let me be the 21st to congratulate you, or something.

Oh i had to take a look again - it looks very good.
BTW, it would be for sure not so difficult to make a Mod for the reduced(damaged) Walls .... ? (i am no Modder at all, so i have no Idea how much Work that is)
Anyway, this looks very good to me - really nice Thing... So a nice Siege Simulation is soon available ?? (Also do not know how it looks when the Walls get destroyed, but... is this my Problem?)

well done some one should make it a utility? loads of people would use it
Looks good! It seems to be better for cutscenes, however, as someone pointed out.

Sweet idea!!
With the problem with the destroying the first wall, what you could do is make the walls owned by a player who is the same color but everyone's ally so no-one could attack it except with magonels.

It would just make it more realistic that it's only siege weapons that can attack the wall's. It isn't very normal that melee unit's attack wall's anyway. Just think of that, back in the middle ages, people trying to hack down a wall with sword's.....
