Topic Subject: I think a unit can have more than 1 attack!
posted 06-25-07 00:31 AM CT (US)

Hi. I think its possible to make a unit that has more than one attack. I say this because its been done for star wars galactic battle grounds. That game uses the genie engine; as does aoktc.

Anyway here's the link:
http://swgb.heavengames.com/downloads/showfile.php?fileid=4077

Perhaps someone can contact the guy who made it and get more information from him.

I thought I mentioned it several times.

1. Create a number of new units, using unpacked trebuchet as the base unit.
2. Modify the new units' attributes. Also, remember to remove the damage graphic.
3. Give them a high work rate in order to allow its instant transformation.
4. Connect their transform unit attribute into a cycle, e.g. a->b->c->a...

However, the new unit would be a siege weapon that could not be healed but repaired by villager, while it would not attack enemy units (but buildings) automatically. Last but not least, it would be on the building list and feature an unwanted attack ground command.
To switch powers, click the Next Power icon: , or type hotkey P.
And yes, P is the hotkey of Pack command.

I'd love to be able to do this, but genied 1 crashes on my computer when I try to read the changed data :C

I might try on my other pc some time, but for now Ican't be asked...

would be really cool to make a samuraiunit that can pull out a bow

Normally deleting the new, biggest file (I forgot its name and I don't have the program right now) auto-generated by the program can solve all kinds of crash.

I can't believe I didn't think of it. Asking the experts, I mean. You just saved many headaches...

I'll have to admit, that's the most clever thing I've read in a long time.

Strange. I could recall telling several people about this trick, maybe only in Messanger?

Sorry for not publicizing it earlier.

no actually I think you mentioned it in some other topic, as I remember reading it... I tryed it out but because of my limited skills it didn't go all well. I never figured out how to make the packed trebuchet able to attack :P

any how thanks for the advice scn_TC I'll have another go with geniEd 1 soon =)

As Scenario_T_C said, this has been around for quite awhile. I'm surprised so many haven't heard of it. I "invented" it over a year ago only to find out it had already been discovered.

Trebuchets won't defend themselves, they rotate in "increments", you can't heal them with monks, they can't be garrisoned (they're buildings technically), and that is not the end of the problems. I gave up using them because of these things.

Lance O Lot's Green Rider thread reminded me of this technique. I think he found out how to deal with the rotation, but he didn't release the solution publicly. Posts 65 - 76 have most of the general trebuchet part.

Camp3rkid: Only link the unpacked trebuchets; packed trebuchets won't work.

What do you mean by increments?

I tried this yesterday, ran into Genied problems. Not to surprising. What's the section that specifies the what unit it changes to?

IIRC, "transform building" available in both GE1 and GE2E3.

I'm sorry, perhaps I should have explained it better. I meant that it won't rotate or turn smoothly like regular non-siege units. It stops at "points" or "intervals" while it is rotating.

One of the “unknown” attributes control the rotation speed, but since my desktop computer cannot be accessed currently, I am afraid that I could not tell you its exact location.

On the other hand, I, however, had never confronted the problem you mentioned, probably because I always replace completely the forebody of the trebuchet data with a set of “normal” unit data (though some of the attributes would need to be renamed).
