Even though it is generally a good idea to diversify, all scenario designers have their own fortes. AnastasiaKafka specialises in map design, while Enrique Orduno was the trigger man while he was active.

What terrain type do you think you work best with. I mean that as unbrella terrain types, such as dirt, grass, and snow maps.

I find that I'm best at dry, desertish maps and prairie-like wildernesses. I don't seem to be able to do enclosed spaces or heavily-wooded forests very easily. My preferred terrain types are dirt3 and grass3, and I dapple them together to create a patchy-grass effect. I also paste in some dirt2 and dirt snow (if in a northern region) for added effect. I then dot the area with trees, pine being my favourite.

So what do you work best with? Post your ideas, thoughts, etc. here.

I think more people should emulate the deserts in the Saladin campaign and Manzikert in Battle of the Conquerors (that one nearly took my breath away).

I like doing that, though the Saladin's weren't as well made. See Seige of Antioch campaign.
I'm trying a practice map that has me doing nothing but map design. So far looks decent.

Nice mountain mixing, DW.

I like to work with beach, but it's not readily available in the scenario editor ().

I work well in any terrain.
BUT; Against All my effors, i always end on forests, i dont know why.
As some people saw on AWT(Now ATW, some people tendo to confuse this for obvious reasons)I'm good doing Mountain passes, forests and Cities.

Don't worry, he's now been banzored. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

And Aftermath, didn't you say you liked forests before?

Does anyone, apart from Anastasiakafka, uses themed forests here?
I mean,same-looking trees?
I have a part with it, but, anyone uses them?

*laughs*

Yea that's what I've been doing all these years...specializing!

That and the fact that I haven't been able to create a decent scenario with game play yet!

I still haven't given up though.

What I'm doing with the trees is just creating a new palette by using only a certain group of trees. Also just removing one or two trees from the ES palettes is a good visual effect.

I wouldn't count EO out of map design either as his was the first use of map-copy buildings I ever seen...so when I see map-copied buildings I think of EO - Map Designer. Everything I've done was inspired by all the oldies...EO, Inquizative, Ingo, Jeru, and Rodrigo just to name a few. Of course I find all my contemporaries here inspiring too...and if nothing else I am checking the maps to see what everyone is doing.

I tried to create map design aspects and terrain that were at least different if not good. I tried to design with elements like grass 2, and green trees because many thought it shouldn't be done. I used to read those 'things not to do in a scenario' posts, and then set out to make them work through design.

I don't have a favorite terrain.

I do. You can get forests of liquid ambers (great-looking trees) by rotating Forest trees until you get the ones with the goldenish leaves.

I work well on basically all terrains, but I agree that open spaces can be eyesores...
