Earth has collapsed under the weight of pollution!

The city sits on the northeast coast with a population of 17,242,013. Capacity is capped at 18,381,000 Comfortable Surplus

Current Discontent Generation of 5% per 200,000 rounded down - 0%

Civil Discontent: (60%)
Plus 3 to Danger Dice Rolls

Utopia Status
Complete Components:

Wide Area Scanning - Carol
Centripetal Gravity Ring - Popey
Liquid Radiation Barrier - Popey
Residential Module x 2 (Popey/Moff/Carol)

Popey: 20 (+20)

International Relations:
The Germans - 58% - Positive

Dice Rolls generate (roll-1)*5 of token completion. 1s generate no benefit and cause damage (see deadly dice). 20s complete. Token entirely. Tokens are arranged in the most advantageous manner. So if you roll a 7, a 9, and a 15: the 7 and 15 generate 30% and 70% respectively, so they will go together and fill an empty slot. The nine generates 40% ((9-1)*5)

With one token being a simple one token spend to fix, no dice required, unless severe repeated rolls hurt you (improbable).
Chance of bad thing when supporting: 10% * 66% = 7%.
Chance of multiple bad things = 10% * 18% * 66 = ~1%

Construction failures will be run on the "deadly dice"
1-5: Nothing
6-11: Most complete component is destroyed
12-16: Top two most complete components are destroyed
17: Top three most complete components are destroyed
18: Entire Project destroyed
19-20: Disaster

A bold statement for early 20th Century... I believe the socialist platform at the time also included the plank that Darwin's Theory of Evolution is pack of lies. <_<

Though, that could have just William Jennings Bryan.

Yeah but in 1905 women are like .6 of a human, and less so for racial minorities >.€ (<- monocle)

That being said I am absolutely fine with popey laying as he is- though I will likely change him to represent an appropriate political entity when it is historically appropriate.

I don't mean to imply that there's mass popular support for the book: just that it's not presenting anything new to them. We're not going to see sexual liberation of women until there is a reliable form of birth control in their hands.

Nah, we're cool with that in this time.
You do realise that 50% of the people are women, right?
Silly boy! Women are women! Admittedly, we at Der Panzer see the changing shape of the future and the need to employ women gainfully and help them meet their husbands... but let's not be silly. After all, women do not even have the vote yet!

And fifty percent, good sir? A full half? No, sir. The fairer sex may come close, but the male holds his proper sway with over a full percentage point. Perhaps you've spent too much time in Mormon country?

Besides which, the population of females was not the subject on which I spoke. Women are fine, well, and good. Indeed, Der Panzer intends to create a proper educational facility for women to aid them as we transition into this grand new century. But that other matter, well... bathhouse antics hardly are proper material for public discussion.
I don't mean to imply that there's mass popular support for the book: just that it's not presenting anything new to them. We're not going to see sexual liberation of women until there is a reliable form of birth control in their hands.
My good man, what need is there to control birth in this great country? We have so much room to grow, and once we have expanded out, we can expand upward! Let nothing strike at our new Tower of Babel, which will be properly served with Der Panzer automobiles!

...I'm pretty sure I have no idea how to roleplay a turn-of-the-century businessman... but I'm having lots of fun trying.

The “new” wave of immigrants came to America between the 1870’s and the 1920’s. These immigrants came in large numbers from southern and eastern European countries such as Italy, Greece, Poland, and Russia.
The mole is doing a little more leg work for this than one might have expected for this (himself included). You've gained about 14,000 in 5 years. New York, by comparison, gained about a million in the same time frame in case you are curious. But, being terribly overcrowded and considering blaming those coming in is also historically accurate so good job.

Anyway, no more meta. I require more late-Victorian colloquialisms.

Dontcha think we got enough stuff of our own to deal wid, widout taking some foreigners' shit as well? We ain't got housing, and the big blokes in the towers is mo busy with they own comfurts and crushing the options of everbody else.

Then take a look at that Elder T chap. Says bout the same line of stuff as I just did. Says it, mind you. Then what’s the bloke do? Builds him a house that costs a fortune or two, bout as much as a whole housing block. Then he jines in with the big blokes who’s just looking to crush those trying to get by.

And there that high and mighty Popey chap feller. Says the opposite, that blokes should allus help folks out. Don’t like us much either. Then what’s the bloke do? Builds the best clinic round, and has his white coats look after everybody, whether he agrees with their line of business or not. Kept a bunch of my sharpest guys’ families intact, they did.

So yer gotta read tween the lines to know what blokes is bout. Take that fire last year. That big Moff and the Elder blokes built some stuff skimping on the dime, and put a lotter good guys in danger. A few wounded up in that Popey chap’s clinic. Whud we do? We helped put out the fire, even though it was the big blokes’ fault, even though it was mainly them big blokes’s property. Why? Cuz it affected people, even if they was innocent. They’ jobs and they’ homes was at risk.

We need to put this know-how to work to solve our problems. We don’t need hordes of foreigners coming over here. But we oughter be able to help a few.

As fer them books, I’ll just say: if them big blokes is supporting fags, we better look between the lines close and see if there’s any reason for us to. Probably just trying to look all humanitarian to cover up they trust-groups schemes.

Sides; we got work ter do. Who got time for wondering bout how fags think? If you ain’t one, what’s it to you? That other book affects chaps in each of they families. If it helps families relax after work, we oughter look into it.

(Disclaimer: As is clearly evident, I have no clue what a consistent North-Eastern Slavic accent sounds like. Any resources to aid in this matter would be greatly appreciated)

The local Democrat Party generally endorses the rhetoric of William Jennings Bryan, who ran in the 1900 Presidential election, but does not support his pacifist ideals (Can't be looking like cowards to the voters in the upcoming Great War).

The Democrats approach Excelsior's mob incognito and ask whether they want to concoct a master plan to make Disappointment dry (implement Prohibition), giving the Democrats Anglo-Saxon votes and allowing the mob to take over alcohol distribution and amass untold riches bootlegging. In return the Mob could give the immigrant and small business vote to the Democrats.

Disappointment's rising political star, Mr. Dinapoliton (the -ton added to disguise his belonging to the Italian race), could tour the state in favour of Prohibition. The state has a primarily small-town culture (?) and he is confident that Prohibition could be achieved if the Mob helps with the funding of his campaign!

Happenings of 1905

A flood of new ideas was knocking on the city's door, and while those in power were willing to listen, the commoners were greatly disturbed. Civil Discontent has risen 10%

In a move for power, the Democratic Party sold it's honor to crime to rig the year's election, though the people remained blissfully unaware. The Democratic Party has assumed control of the local government. It has siphoned one token from the Republican Party. Organized Crime has gained one token with its new leverage

As a result of the latest advertising wars, the Democratic Party has gained yet another small edge. The Democratic Party has gained one token (not at the expense of the Republicans)

As population rises, so too does the power of the people. In combination with enhanced civil servants, The People have gained one token.

Big business grows bigger. Der Panzer grows by two tokens. Kaiser Industrial grows by one (though business analysts predict a coming surge in KI, should its two main points of infrastructure reach conclusion)

Starting Balances:

Republican Party - Dementor - 2
Democratic Party - Chud - 3
The People - Popey - 2
Organized Crime - Excel - 4
Kaiser Industrial - Carol - 6
Der Panzer - Moff - 8
Small Business - ET - 3

I might as well clarify- higher tier housing will attract the wealthy, while slums will raise discontent. As the household income of the city changes, different levels will change in relevance, utility, and satisfaction.

Oh, so we can re-build the electrical network now?

...On second thought, I'll leave it to someone else to do it.

Now, that is very strong rhetoric coming from that mob boss. Predictably, being a criminal, he's not checking his facts, he's ignoring the true motivations of certain persons, and he's accusing said persons for something that they never even did in the first place. Just what one would expect from such a lowlife mob-boss like him, discredit the populace and claim himself as the moral one when in fact, he isn't.
(Nothing personal, Excelsior. )

That said, let's get down to business:

I want to finish this harbor and I need to expand my business to tend to the needs of the population here. (2 tokens on the harbor if possible, and 1 token on myself)

My spare token in low-level housing.

You know what? No. ET had had his warning. Selfishness will be punished.

I'd like to use my token to bribe Excelsior into running ET out of town. The mob will turn up with pitchforks and Molotov cocktails.

So's, can I like, harass ET, and claim caretake a bigger part of the harbor, as part of my method of punishing him?

We don't really want to run anyone out of town, and he is the third biggest employer. Possibly just show him who's boss, so to speak? Enforced generosity?

(I've never dealt with the mafia, so I'm just going to say negotiations are legit )
