Topic Subject: Amazing Effects of Change Unit Type INCLUDING MINES WITH INFINITE GOLD!
posted 20 January 2005 11:09 PM EDT (US)
Ok this is rather simple but . . .

Change Unit Type will not make villagers "stop" working on the unit.

It also refills units' (gold, trees, berry bushes) resources.

So if you looped a trigger that changed a small gold mine back to itself every second, then its gold count would reset to 1500 every second. Making its count infinite. Best part is the villagers don't stop mining it.

This worked on EVERYTHING I've tried including:

Berry bush

Gold Mines (all) - note the dwarven mine will have its birth animation.

Trees - Note that the tree will reset to being "unchopped". As villies take 1 chop to knock it down, (IF YOU HAVE IT LOOP EVERY 5 SECONDS OR LESS)more than one villie will be needed to actually obtain resources. Simple solution - raise the timer.

Animals - Note that the dead animal will repeat its dead animation. Although villies will continue to gather resources.

Farms - just kidding.

Nice find. I worry about computational lag due to too many looping triggers in a complicated scenario, but the idea does have merit and can be used in a lot of situations (as you have shown). Rep+

... It usually won't lag if you do it all in one trigger.

You can have one trigger with the timer 10 or something and the effect on what you want.

Of course it will lag if you happen to decide to do this on ALL the trees on yoru map or something. lol

Heh, but you find more things than any others.

This is great, I'd never thought of that! I was even about to ask how I can have an infinate supply of resources. True, the player will likely start gathering their trigger-AI-d ally's resources... and say what the hell when they see the trees popping back up like that. Now I have a different question... to the Question thread I go, to the question thread I go...

Anyways, this is great!(Special Thanks AND Playtester Credit)

why is that all these cool tricks from pftq never have screenies? screenies just makes the main topic...funner

i was talking in general...most tricks found by pftq sometimes need screenies...for one, makes it more interesting, for beginners and makes it look more detailed, so the reader can understand a little more about whatever the guide is talking about

I add pics sometimes but most of the time, what is there to upload a picture of? lol

Am I supposed to post a pic of a gold mine?

Don't.

You can set an animation in the editor, right? When you do that it won't have the birth animation all the time, but the idle one, or whatever it's called, right?

Try using the tech Adze of Wepatwat.

... @FD2: This is for general use. But don't they still have to cut down the tree?

@Argalius: Set Animation is only for the animations in cinematics (not animation viewer). Some idle animations and stuff work, but not always. Goat for example has random looping animations.

pftq, again good job, hope it doesn't get boring for you to hear this every so often.
Pls, allow me to say in all good will that you have great ideas, but I seem to remember something about "respawning gold mines" that Auron had written some time ago.
Of course, I prefer this latest find of yours, cause if you "refill" the mine then you don't "lose it's placement"-if you have it upside down, or up a cliff, or whatever.

yay

Now i can stop using trees

i been trying to figure this out for ages.

Pity i already worked out a new system em? LOL!
