THE FINNISH CIVILIZATION
By LackingNunchi

HISTORY
The land now known as Finland was settled as the last ice sheets from the Ice Age were melting and the Stone Age was recently begun in 8500 BCE. Finnish people are a mix of Baltic, Russian, and Norwegian peoples. Their culture developed from the mixing of these civilizations and Christian influence, leading to what is now called Finnish folklore. Finland’s culture and people no longer follow these beliefs much anymore, however.

ECONOMY
- The Finnish Villager, the Alainen, gathers resources and builds buildings.
- Alainen drop off resources as Town Centers or three different drop off sites: Dollaria for Food, Kolistella for Wood and Kulta for Gold. These buildings cost only Wood and are quick to construct.
- Finnish players have an additional villager unit at their disposal- The Erlik, which are little mud monsters designed to do manual work. Erlik are best at gathering Food and Wood. They have lower hitpoints than Alainen.
MILITARY
- The Finnish civilization has one trainable hero- Vaino, a folk hero from the epic poem The Kalevala. He regenerates and is best against myth units. In folklore, he is known for the invention of the kantele, a type of harp.
- This civilization is mainly focused on infantry. They have four trainable infantry units, who are best at countering cavalry and other infantry units. They are 15% better at countering ranged units than other civilizations.
- Finnish infantry have medium armor and medium attack. Finnish military units are best against other units.
MYTHOLOGY
- These are the Minor God Paths for the Finnish:
ILMATAR- Akka/Thermes Lemminkainen/Kalma Paivatar/Loviatar
AHTI- Akka/Ilma Tapio/Lemminkainen Paivatar/Madderakka
LEMPO- Thermes/Ilma Kalma/Tapio Loviatar/Madderakka
Favor is gathered by constructing Sentry Towers. Each Sentry Tower is worth 25 Favor. When these towers upgrade to Watch Towers, they become more expensive, but are worth 30 Favor. Guard Towers, an additional upgrade, are more expensive still but worth 35 Favor.

MAJOR GODS

ILMATAR
God of Winds, Creation
FOCUS: Units
- Alainen & Erlik are 15% less expensive.
- All units take up 1 less population slot. Units that cost 1 population slot drop to ½.
- All military units (excluding Vaino) have 10% more hitpoints.
Ilmatar was a goddess who lived a lonely life on cosmic waters as winds buffeted her. She was so lonely that the East Wind took pity on her and beat her with hurricane force winds until she was pregnant. This child would grow up to be Vaino, but not until 730 years later, when Ilmatar spied a pregnant cosmic duck. This duck, having nowhere to lay her eggs, found a place in the crook of Ilmatar’s knee. Unfortunately, when Ilmatar decided to move ever so slightly, all six eggs lain by the cosmic duck dropped into the ocean and sizzled to perfection. The moon was made from the white of the egg, the sun from the yolk, and the land and stars from eggshell bits. Vaino was born.
GOD POWER- Eggshell (1 Use) – For a minute, the enemy units in the small selected area become encased in eggshells and cannot move or attack. This god power does not work on heroes or naval units.
MYTHIC TECHNOLOGY- Late Pregnancy- Vaino is trained in the Heroic Age (as opposed to the Classical Age) but for a 15% discount on cost and a 20% discount on training time.

AHTI
God of Water
FOCUS: Naval Units
Bonuses:
- All Fishing Ships carry 25% more Food.
- All naval units increase in speed by 10%.
- Transport Ships can carry 35 population slots worth.
Ahti lives in a cloud- shrouded cliff that is constantly lashed by powerful waves. In his green envy of the Sky Gods and his lack of fair share of worship from humans, Ahti creates dangerous whirlpools and broods in his damp cave. When sailors drown at sea or their ships sink to the ocean bottom, it is because Ahti is releasing his anger and frustration out on humans, in fear of the sky gods despite his massive inferiority complex.
GOD POWER- Clouds (2 Uses) – When placed over an enemy Town Center, that building cannot train units.
MYTHIC TECHNOLOGY- Golden Sails- Ahti increases naval units’ hitpoints by 15%.

LEMPO
God of Evil and Demons
FOCUS: Myth Units
- All myth units train 15% faster.
- Myth units 10% better against heroes.
- Myth unit use their special attack more often.
Lempo creates misfortune, disease, and other unspeakable evils that occur on the Earth. He leads the legions of demons that cause strife and is known as the Head of Demons. He and his friends the demons Hiisi and Paha cause confusion and destruction amongst men and monsters. His mortal enemy is Lemminkainen and he is in possession of a herd of moose that breath fire and trample on people.
GOD POWER- Herd (1 Use) – Lempo summons a herd of fire- breathing moose to fight for the player. The moose are fast and strong, in addition to being free, but you only have five and they do not regenerate.

When he comes upon it, his war cries become the thunder, and he is accompanied by lightning because of his incredible strength when fighting demons.

GOD POWER- Flocks (3 Uses) – This god power summons all available kinds of birds in the game to land in the selected area. These birds can be killed and used for Food but there will only be one of each bird.

He has a rivalry with Lempo, the God of Evil, but neither know where the line between mischief and evil is drawn, or where it should be…
GOD POWER- Honey (2 Uses) – In the large selected area, enemy units become encased in a hard shell of honey, which prevents them from moving or attacking. It also puts a damper on building’s attacks. It lasts for a minute.

His body is formed from the world’s largest Rowan tree and his branches try to shield the entire world from disease. He shares his knowledge by whispering it into the wind, although it becomes incoherent when he does this- that’s why the wind whispers when it passes through leaves- it’s the transfer of knowledge between Tapio and the world.
GOD POWER- Quicksand (1 Use) – Any enemy unit that enters the selected area is sucked into the murky deep. The player that invokes the power shares the quicksand’s LOS and the LOS of any enemy unit too close.

Madderakka’s husband Madderatcha creates souls for the babies so when they die they do not walk the earth haunted forever.

- Jousi Alus- These units are the backbone of the navy that fire arrows.
- Kirves Alus- These units are naval units that hurl throwing axes.

I have one last note to add: many of the names for the myth units are not real mythological beasts in Finnish mythology. This mythology, although rampant with spirits and the like, never actually has many units that can be described. Therefore, using a translator and my imagination, I used the word “Haltia”, which means “spirit” and placed a Finnish word in front. For example, the word “Aurinko” means “sun”. Therefore, the myth unit is known as “Sun Spirit”. I did this also with the human units listed above. “Jousi” literally means “bow”, but I applied it to an archer because it was all I knew to do. I don’t mean this as an insult to the Finnish people of today. Thank you.

Okay, 1. Too much like norse
2. I've read all of the major gods so far and they have the most op bonuses/gps possible. Reducing every unit's pop count by 1 is waaaaaaaay op (and btw 1/2 is impossible). And blocking the opponent's tp from training?
3. More opness in minors, barren is again way op, a ton of instakill mus mixed with siege mus, healing mus that are invisible to other mus, immediately destroying any unit in an area. Decay dealing a massive amount of damage to all buildings and units, taking out all houses and towers in the area from just one cast, and weakening tp and such to a few levels, while killing off enemy units. Then that's also heroic with 2 uses, another that attacks the enemies buildings and effectively chaoses their units. Drought killing all the enemies farms everywhere at once immediately. Then birth is kind of useless.
4. This isn't that important but there's a few impossible things, or things that aren't possible without compromising a lot of other things (the honey / other freeze one).

Look, the Slavs look pretty similar to the Norse to me and they got made. And it frustrates me that you've got nothing but critisism for me or my work. And I've seen nothing to prove you've got any experience on the subject to tell me off on it.

Have you bothered looking? L33tskillz is pretty knowledgeable on modding. He has experience in the matter, whereas you joined a week ago and, as far as I can tell, have absolutely no experience in modding Age of Mythology at all.

Don't post something on the internet and not expect criticism.

The Slavs weren't made, only conceived, like all player civ designs.

How about I give you every impossible one and a reason why for all of them. And I know more about modding than 90% of the people here just so you know. The only reason I don't have a major mod is texturing and modeling.

1. Ilmitar's Pop Drop thing can't work as intended. 1/2 pop doesn't work because the pop cost of a unit can only be an integer, the game blocks you from putting it below one unless you loop around.
2. Eggshell is only possible by using the gp type freeze. That only uses the specific object for freezing. There can only be one object used as the ice block. If this was made you'd have to get rid of freeze and frost giants or it'd look really weird
3. Honey is the same as eggshell here, so even with that only one could exist.
4. Rejuvenate is impossible, there's no way to give a random % chance for something to happen outside of a few things in gps.
5. Quicksand is particularly difficult to make, and could work to some extent, but in order to make it look right you'd probably have to use acid which would mean replacing acid pool and removing argii. Even without that like I said it's fairly difficult, including getting the los of units near it.
6. Drought might be able to work but like before it's kind of difficult to make.

And then all the balance issues, which are very obvious at just examining them next to current civs.
1. Ilmitar makes villagers cost 15% less and half as much pop. Ever think that might be a bit op for someone to essentially be able to advance faster, be ahead on everything (they don't have to build houses nearly as much and can keep going), all that stuff, lots of extra resources. But the tech isn't too good. It's fairly useless because you already have to pay for the tech and wait for it to finish. But 1 useless thing doesn't make up for other op things. And you get to disable all enemy units but still attack them.
2. Ahti speeds your fishing quite a bit, giving them less time going to the dock, then moving faster when they do. Then transport ships can be built a fraction as much as they would normally, saving you plenty of resources. And with sealed decks you get 45 people in one.
3. Lempo makes all those instakill mus be able to do that even more, then makes them stronger against the people they can't do it against, that's fair. Plus they train faster for extra swarming. Then you get five free fast strong mus (I'm assuming) in archaic that last forever if you keep them alive, or you can just rush with them and win right there.
4. Akka makes your houses stronger, perfect if you're ilmatar and barely need any anyway. You can just keep them all in the back. Then you get nice siege, but of course nobody has ever used mus that have crush damage to rush [/sarcasm]. And then you can upgrade them for more. At least you don't get these with lempo. Then while you're attacking their base with your giant treemen you can destroy all the resources around it so they have to suddenly move all the villagers they still had there to new places without any warning that all their resources were going to run out immediately. Even if you spread out, there's not that much of a reason not to use them, so when it runs out you're still going to have to coordinate villies to other places while your tc is being destroyed by ents. Plus you can then freeze the villies in giant eggshells with ilmatar and kill them there. Then you get barren 2 more times for all the other resources you don't have. Not to mention this also completely negates Gaia's forest and all it's defenses.
5. Then with Thermes you get a nice flying offensive unit with an instakill in classical. Then you get two uses of Earthquake still in classical. Plus all your archers are more accurate, to help in sniping down their counters (not that they'd do a lot of damage, but suddenly speed doesn't matter). Then you get to improve your flying instakill mu's armor against arrows. It's flying. And since it's lempo you can make it faster with more instakilling.
6. Ilma gives free food 3 times, along with yet another instakill mu in classical. Again lempo just for more instakill, yay instakill. And now you get more favor and the mus cost less, just to go along with lempo's train time decrease. Then plenty of free hunting (actually there aren't that many birds).
7. Lemmin gives you two casts of frost without the armor boost. Plus you get a nice mu that can't be attacked by other mus, and can heal other ones of the same type.
8. Tapio gives you a free area instakill with no chargeup whatsoever. Then, with this nice pattern, you've got lempo to make your instakill mu use their special more and train faster.
9. With Kalma, I guess you figured it wasn't enough to have eq, this is the heroic age! we did that in classical! now it's eq + lightning storm, all together in one nice heroic gp you can use twice. Destroying their houses and towers by itself, just to set them up with no towers and no pop to make more units. Of course ilmatar is immune to this because he doesn't need any pop. But I do have to commemorate you, this mu doesn't have instakill, it doesn't even have a special attack, and isn't classical siege. Good job. But still, you're doubling the attack of your towers and increasing all of your buildings crush armor a lot.
10. Pavivatar: Just as the amount of hunt is dying down, you get to come in here and destroy every last farm on the map at once instantly. Then you come along with a nice strong 100% accuracy ranged mu, but I don't know about the stats so I can't say much. Then you make their attack stronger by 25%. And you buff your hero which isn't that op
11. Loviatar's gp damages their buildings for an indefinite amount of time, and forces them to lose units twice, when you cast it and when they destroy the units destroying their buildings. And back to instakill, knew that couldn't dissapear, not with lempo there. Plus you can boost the armor of every last one of your units by 15% in all types with one tech.
12. Then Madderekka isn't that good at all. Because we're in mythic it totally means you're having trouble with your eco and need to remove all defenses for the forwarding of that. Even with the super-cheap villies, you're in mythic, you should be finishing up hte game by now.

That was not 12 things, that was multiple for each and every last major and minor god up there.

What about Vainemoinen and his brother Ilmarinen? Kullervo? Are they hero units?
How does one access this modification? Is it available as a download? Sorry, I'm a newbie.

It is an unmade concept that the post before you gave a plethora reasons as to why not of potential to be made.
