Topic Subject: Lets Vote for new AoM2 civs
« Previous Page  1 2 3 ··· 9  Next Page »
posted 01 January 2009 06:20 PM EDT (US)
Since Bartholomeus made no voting chart, I'll start the ball rolling. Please contribute & I'll adjust this accordingly.
That's new civs people, added to the existing Greek, Egy, Norse & Atlanteans.
One vote per person per civ. You'll learn about this system when you're old enough to vote in the real world , kiddies.
If you want to persuade others to vote for your favourite civ, post a fully researched illustated civ chart.

No limit on the amount of civs you can vote for, just keep it sane.

You put no rules for the voting. I think that everyne should vote for whatever civ they want, but they can give only 4 points per member. A month for voting should be enough.

My votes:

Trojans-1 point (real trojans, not a greek photocopy)
Hitites-1 point
Sumerians-1 point
Micennic-1 point

All those cultures where part of the war of Troy, with the exception of the sumerians, so they could make a nice campaign.

By the looks of it, we are gonna have Trojans if this keeps up.

Why shouldn't we have Greeks, Norse or Egyptians? If this is going to be a new game it doesn't matter if it has some of the same civs as AoM. Besides those Civilizations have the most recognized mythologies in the world no mythology game would be complete without Zeus and Thor and Osiris. We can make them even better. And since you aren't the one who will be making the game it isn't really up to you what we can and can't do.

i think he was just saying not to vote on those three since theyre almost definitely going to be included so we should be focusing on NEW civs

How many civs are we planning exactly?
posted 01 January 2009 11:57 PM EDT (US)     12 / 222
We are planning as many new civs as you whizzkids can mod.
Sorry I can only research, I've never had a 'puter lesson in my life, too old)
Oshron, correct. The worst thing about this game is not enough civs.
I play random vs AI random, (hard Anatolia) but if I get a civil war e.g Greek vs Greek, I instantly resign & start a new game. More civs would lessen that problem.

Leto, the Mycenaeans were Greek.
I tried to make my Trojans as Anatolian as possible, not a Greek photocopy. 5 Gods are native, not in the Greek pantheon. There's much evidence that the Greeks & their mythologies came from Asia Minor. People only think Troy was Greek because of centuries of Homeric brainwashing.
I tried to give the units ancient Greek names (where's Anastousilos when you need him?) as Trojan Luwian is an extinct language.

Are we going to pass trough that again Fejj?, you cannot asimilate the civs on the homeric poems, to the ones that existed during the golden hellenic era.

The micenic civ end, mostly due to natural disasters. The greeks continue even trough our days. The social, militar, and economical orders that homer describe, are completly diferent of those on the greek poleis. There was no concept of Greece at the times of the Iliad.

Eitherway, I think it would be better to use civs that are quite well known even by non-history fans.

The Greek Dark ages were probably not due to natural disasters. The Thera eruption was 400 yrs earlier.
According toMichael Wood it was probably due to overspecialisation, & constant raiding/warring for foreign slave women, especially the 9 yr Trojan war which bankrupted & collapsed the Mycenaean Greek culture.
Helen of Troy could have been a metaphor for all the foreign slave women they were after.
It took the Phoenician traders to reintroduce writing to Greece.

The Romans copied/paralleled Greek mythology.
Skystrider's northern Italian Etruscans (top post link) seem to be more interesting. They invented gladiators.

the romans are new unlike greeks.
Rome fell in 400AD. The Eastern Greek Roman Empire, Byzantium, lasted for another 1000 yrs.

The Dogon Tribe Africa (First Link)
The Ancient Japanesse
The Mogolians
Mu, Lemuria (Second Link)

Two things:

Once the civilizations are decided i will start a Myth Unit poll, if that's okay.

I choose these civilations to balance out the civilizations of each country
