The year is 2049

The ship has launched! Game End!

Current Elysium Vote

Earth has collapsed under the weight of pollution!

The city sits on the northeast coast with a population of 17,242,013. Capacity is capped at 18,381,000 Comfortable Surplus

Current Discontent Generation of 5% per 200,000 rounded down - 0%

Civil Discontent: (60%)

Dice Rolls generate (roll-1)*5 of token completion. 1s generate no benefit and cause damage (see deadly dice). 20s complete. Token entirely. Tokens are arranged in the most advantageous manner. So if you roll a 7, a 9, and a 15: the 7 and 15 generate 30% and 70% respectively, so they will go together and fill an empty slot. The nine generates 40% ((9-1)*5)

With one token being a simple one token spend to fix, no dice required, unless severe repeated rolls hurt you (improbable).
Chance of bad thing when supporting: 10% * 66% = 7%.
Chance of multiple bad things = 10% * 18% * 66 = ~1%

Construction failures will be run on the "deadly dice"
1-5: Nothing
6-11: Most complete component is destroyed
12-16: Top two most complete components are destroyed
17: Top three most complete components are destroyed
18: Entire Project destroyed
19-20: Disaster

So how does one exactly act bourgeois? I'm not much for roleplay.

I'm interested, but I still haven't decided if I'll join or not.

EDIT:
a sociologically defined class, especially in contemporary times, referring to people with a certain cultural and financial capital belonging to the middle or upper stratum of the middle class... An affluent and often opulent stratum of the middle class (capitalist class) who stood opposite the proletariat class...In Marxist philosophy the bourgeoisie is the social class that came to own the means of production during modern industrialization and whose societal concerns are the value of property and the preservation of capital, to ensure the perpetuation of their economic supremacy in society....
So, uh, like a snobbish asshat?

Lurker has joined the game, representing the upper-class

At most, popey, I will allow solely you, the people, the ability to block two tokens of investment at the cost of one- with a chance of raising discontent. A little mob power is reasonable.

The Godfather looks over the People’s proposal that has landed on his desk. From face value, the deal offers little incentive for his crew. Earn a token to do a job that costs a token. No profit. Unless you count the reputation gain of being a hardnosed group willing to throw their weight around a little. Maybe they’d get back at Elder for the small slight of not joining them in business. Childish behavior, really.

And if the job flops, it’ll be the mafia holding the bag. Their political and popular connections will dry up, and with Der Panzer’s recent veiled carrot-stick threat, and their less subtle overfunding of a police station means failure will have up to three big business entities down their throats, with a well-funded police force tracking down the dirt the job gave them. Not to mention the rep loss from failing a job.

But if they turn it down, their rep will take a hit too. It’s a crisis. An opportunity.

Only by fulfilling the People’s request in their own way does any value seem possible.

1.It’s well-known that the electrical grid Elder owns is junk, and the electricians who work on it are worth less than their own shit. Plus, with the fire from last year, this fact is only too clearly on everyone’s mind.

2.The Elder’s house is the main focus of the People’s animosity. $(Token valuex2) was spent on it, enough to build a lot of good for the town. But it’s still connected to that electrical grid…

3.Damaging the harbor will hurt the mafia’s own investments, and delay their smuggling ops. Tariffs and excise taxes are the name of the game in this era, and bypassing them is lucrative. The Godfather also doesn’t want to damage his rep with the rest of small business owners, or with big business, by acting petty and childish.

By carefully planting an electrician with the proper mindset in the grid’s works, the Godfather believes he can cheaply and safely start a fire that will finish the grid and heavily damage the Elder’s home. Due to the nature of the operation, and the absence of a police department at this stage in time, coupled with the known history of electric fires, he is confident the group can get away with no legal repercussions.

Democrats: The Godfather recommends to the Democrats that they change their funding for Printing Press to establishing a public Electrical Grid. Getting this out of the hands of corporate business into the safe hands of government will go far to improving the populace’s view of the new party.

Also. We're building a Press. Due to our working together, it makes sense for you to be able to use it.

People: We’ve made our example.

Small Business: (Subtle recommendation to open up and allow cooperation with the Organization)

Der Panzer: I’ll respond after Mole decides what to do with my scheming.

If I am to interpret that as sabotaging the already crippled electrical grid with a preference for hitting ET on the downsides... I would be receptive to that approach. Though fire effects have some degree of randomness.

Yes. I'll try to clean it up where it's more understandable that that is what I was doing.

(P.S. Is taking advantage of opportunities like that cheaper than 1 Token? I'm not totally trying to be mercenary, I'm just wondering whether we get bonus rolls, or something, for taking advantage of game circumstances.

So, does sabotaging a working, perfect Medical Clinic cost the same, and have the same level of success, as sabotaging an ailing project?)

Not that I want to, it's just the only "perfect" building that was completed, and thus the only example.

Wise decision, but with all due respect, you need to tell the Godfather to check his facts.
1.It’s well-known that the electrical grid Elder owns is junk, and the electricians who work on it are worth less than their own shit. Plus, with the fire from last year, this fact is only too clearly on everyone’s mind.
First off, Der Panzer owns parts of that electrical grid that I don't. Second, Der Panzer was the first to invest in it and he did the whole thing, whereas I only tried to connect neighboring businesses. And third, the fire was caused by Der Panzer's electrical grid, not mine.

Furthermore...
2.The Elder’s house is the main focus of the People’s animosity. $(Token valuex2) was spent on it, enough to build a lot of good for the town. But it’s still connected to that electrical grid…
I have already stated that my house is NOT connected to Der Panzer's faulty electrical grid. My business and neighboring ones, however, are connected to a grid, and you've already said that you don't want to harm the rep with small businesses. I'm only representing myself; there are many more small businesses in this town besides me that are ready to run you out of town. Keep that in mind.
posted 12-22-15 08:41 AM CT (US)     263 / 1871
Well they cost the same and damage potential is the same (2d10). A fully functional medical clinic can't be brought down to the same level as a janky-ass electric grid with two bouts of negative value construction flubs. Any support rolls will also be netted against the sabotage, which isn't terribly relevant for much yet.

Hitting the grid has greater destructive consequences because it is:
A) intrinsically volatile and dangerous
B) extremely poorly constructed
posted 12-22-15 08:52 AM CT (US)     264 / 1871
Well, your grid was a failure too. (Post 178) You got a 1, which was worse than Moff's 3.

Secondly, you can't say no to the Small business/Organization cooperation back then for the whole small business community, then say you're just representing yourself.

Sides, the fact that I’m specifically targeting your house shows that my operatives are trying to focus their efforts to achieve the priorities I’ve listed, and avoid the problems I’m concerned with.

I am There's an Act of God hitting Elder's house, the rich bloke with the house that cost a hospital. He just happens to be the guy the People want a vendetta against.

If done right, there's no hard evidence to convince your associates I did it. That's why it's a subtle request for cooperation.

First of all, I'm not rich. I have no idea why you believe I am.

Second of all, unlike Popeychops, I don't pretend to represent the will of the other businesses. Obviously, I can't control what all of them will or will not do, but I've talked to a fair number of the other small businesses, and they say that they don't want an organized crime presence, either.

Third, you're still ignoring the fact that it was Moff's electrical grid that caught fire. My grid was an experiment with my windmill, which failed miserably I will admit. I'll take responsibility for that.

But if you're going to destroy the household of an honest person just trying to get by on the whims of a radical minority - and, quite frankly as you yourself said, childish - opinion, then by all means, go ahead. The rest of the town will burn, as well.

Hilarious results. Also, I realized that I'm missing a critical piece of the game.

The dominant investor of a given project may name a project upon completion

Caveat: if contributions are equal, the person who posted for it first is considered dominant. Influence is given first and foremost to those who cast tokens before the project was overfunded.

Those names in the OP can retroactively name completed projects.

HA! That's one in the eye for that radical leftist criminal.

The residents and the other small businesses of Disappointment have spoken out in respect and admiration of my stance against what is quite clearly now a militant criminal Socialist conspiracy. My business has grown extremely well - so well, in fact, that I have now moved my business to a new, bigger building closer to the business district so that I and my employees may serve the people of Disappointment better. Complete with its own windmill, as well as room to expand should the necessity arise.

And yet somehow, after doing that and a couple of side projects, I still had a little bit left over.

Happenings of 1906

The industry of the city had finally begun to kick into full gear. For the first time it seemed that the city had finally come alive. Production went into full gear and several high level projects were completed ahead of schedule. Many firsts were met. Corruption, over allocation of resources, and venomous intra-socioeconomic relations evolved to form the most volatile of the city's infantile years.

Yet even with these dubious approaches, it was doubtless that the city was growing faster than ever before. Housing made great strides of progress. Though it still failed to keep up with the ever increasing demand, it stalled what could have been a serious drain on the stability of the city. Perhaps most interesting was the first development of some room for the upper class. Though the power was held by the rich, the rich had yet to actually live in the city. Would the quality of life suffice for the wealthy? Time would tell.

Kaiser Industrial provided what were largely seen as the most necessary boosts to the economic lifeblood of the city. With the introduction of not just rail lines, but also a basic docking system, the viability of imports and exports offered tremendous opportunity.

A police station was also completed, though in their panic to get it done, few had realized the corrupting influences that may have muddled their initial intentions. One had to look no further than the damaged electrical grid, which as far as anyone could tell, was a glaring threat to the basic safety of the city. Unsuspiciously, none of this was reported on in the first issue of the criminal/democrat run press.

Much to the surprise of some residents, who were still struggling to pay for expensive water imports and lacked simple sanitation, was the introduction of a slick new school for young aspiring women sponsored by Der Panzer. That happened. People weren't entirely sure how or why... But damn, did they build that school quickly.

So...my name's not in parenthesis for that harbor. Does that mean I was the dominant investor?

Also, who is this Lurkuer person? I don't believe we've met him.
