MAYANS
No cav, so an extra Heroic Age strength myth unit in Classical Age.
Virtually no metal weapons, so no age limit on economic, armoury & building upgrades.

(thx to Underpants Man & Zalpacuiztli)
The classical period of the Maya civilisation was between 300 and 900 AD.A complex and hierarchical society was developed that divided the people into classes and professions. They formed centralised governments ruled by a kings who governed over well-defined city states, which shared similar artistic styles, and a common religion and cultural background.
One very unifying factor was their temples advanced writing. This ceremonial centre was the Maya's greatest contribution to the cultural landscape. To a degree, its origins, functions & diffusion have been made known to us by anthropologists. The crafts, religion, social & political organisation, & artistic & intellectual achievements associated with these centres have been analysed. We know with reasonable accuracy when, where & how the Maya lived, farmed, quarried stone, made mortar, mixed pigments & worked in stucco. Their calendar & mathematics are fully comprehensible, & many of their hieroglphics have been deciphered.
Blood Sacrifice
Anthropologists have long contrasted the ‘peaceful’ Maya with the bloodthirsty religio-sacrificial Aztecs. However, archaeological discoveries appear to demonstrate that although the Aztecs placed more importance on human sacrifice, blood sacrifice still played a significant role in Mayan religion and culture.
The archaeologists’ nightmare is the reality that the Spanish invaders regarded the advanced Mayan symbolic writing to be the language of the devil and set about to destroy all they could find.
As with any civilisation, their art is a reflection of their culture. Their colourful and contrasting artworks comprised of paintings upon plaster walls and paper, stone and wood carvings, stucco and clay models of animals, people and objects, and terracotta figurines made in moulds.

Sophisticated Metal Processes
What has surprised archaeologists is the high development of Mayan metalwork, because there are few local sources of ore. It has always mystified experts as to how they acquired such knowledge with so little to work with. Thus, artisans crafted metal objects only for ornamental or religious purposes for use by the elite classes. Similarly, the Mayan kings commissioned great works of art and architecture in order to memorialise themselves into history.
Economic Guild Armoury -N'a Maskab
- upgrades of chert flint, obsidian, copper, jade.
Trade seems to have been broad-based, extending even to the enemies of the Aztecs: the Tarascans, for example, were a source of copper axes.

Armour.
Breastplates
One of the most significant elements of an elite Maya’s dress “was the breastplate or pectoral. It is difficult to examine any Maya sculpture or painting without finding examples of these breastplates.... These breastplates were generally made of wood, bone, shells, jade, and other stones, as well as various pieces of metal. They were frequently elaborately carved with decorations of gods, hieroglyphs, animals, and human skulls. Most depictions of Maya warriors show them wearing such breastplates.”
Head-Plates
Mayan art depicts headgear from simple leather or cloth headbands mounted with jade plaques, to more complex wooden hats with mounted jade, shell, stone, or metal which were tied under the chin with straps.
Thick Clothing
Both the Aztecs and the Mayan often wore a basic armor which consisted of a thick and sleeveless jackets made cotton or other woven material known as ichcahuipilli. Sometimes these jackets would be doubly quilted, stuffed with rock salt and could withstand a direct arrow impact. The garment was so light and cheap that the Spaniards adopted it as well.
Animal Skins
Often the Mayans or Aztecs wore leather skins and armor over these quilted jackets (ichcahuipilli) to increase their protection. (Hamblin (1990)

The Maize god is representative of the ripe grain which was the base of the Mayan agriculture & is principally shown with a headdress of maize and a curved streak on his cheek. He is also noticeable from other gods by his youth, despite which he was powerless by himself. He suffered when the Death god, Ah Puch, brought drought and famine. A passive and defenseless creature, victim of attacks by birds, insects and rodents, his survival depended on the help of the god of rain, Chaac. Corn also depended on man's rituals and offerings to the god of rain, weeding out plants which competed with Corn for space, scaring off predators, and giving life to the god by planting him. In gratitude for all man's care, Corn fed him.

The Maya civilization is a Mesoamerican civilization, noted for the only known fully developed written language of the pre-Columbian Americas, as well as its spectacular art, monumental architecture, and sophisticated mathematical and astronomical systems. Initially established during the Preclassic period, many of these reached their apogee of development during the Classic period (c. 250 CE to 900 CE), and continued throughout the Postclassic period until the arrival of the Spanish. At its peak, it was one of the most densely populated and culturally dynamic societies in the world.

The Maya civilization shares many features with other Mesoamerican civilizations due to the high degree of interaction and cultural diffusion that characterized the region. Advances such as writing, epigraphy, and the calendar did not originate with the Maya; however, their civilization fully developed them. Maya influence can be detected as far as central Mexico, more than 1000 km (625 miles) from the Maya area. Many outside influences are found in Maya art and architecture, which are thought to result from trade and cultural exchange rather than direct external conquest. The Maya peoples never disappeared, neither at the time of the Classic period decline nor with the arrival of the Spanish conquistadores and the subsequent Spanish colonization of the Americas. Today, the Maya and their descendants form sizable populations throughout the Maya area and maintain a distinctive set of traditions and beliefs that are the result of the merger of pre-Columbian and post-Conquest ideologies (and structured by the almost total adoption of Roman Catholicism). Many different Mayan languages continue to be spoken as primary languages today; the Rabinal Achí, a play written in the Achi' language, was declared a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2005.

@Fejj: Im shamed to recognize that you seem to know a lot more that I am about mayan mithology and culture. The mayans inhabit the area on the south of México, where is very diferent from the north where I live. Is not part of the culture in wich I grew up, and now I realize that I they dont teach us anything about this is school.

Im more familiar with the aztec culture and myths because they are the ones from where México took his name (the meshicas). As usual a very deep investigation, I will like to have those giant birds and the flying serpents that resemble Quetzalcoatl.

Kulkulcan, the martial aspect of Itzamna (the teaching god) is the Mayan equivalent of Quezalcoatl, just like Zeus = Jupiter, etc.
Because of their scarcity I had to invent some myth units, (jade anaconda, wasp demon) but few people would realise if I hadn't just admitted it. At least they fit the Latin American environment. The Tarantula Hawk Wasp is the 2nd most painful insect.
Commenting on his own experience, one researcher described the pain as "...immediate, excruciating pain that simply shuts down one's ability to do anything, except, perhaps, scream. Mental discipline simply does not work in these situations."
A wasp bite puts a human victim into anaphylactic shock, swelling their head & neck, constricting their trachea & making it difficult to breath. Sp; ahorcadora "strangler".
