In answer to your question im not sure of the exact number needed but i think its closer to 2000.

the picture below will show you which rocks to place, its best to use the smallest brush size so they dont take up too much room.

Hai von schimidit, i have a template map for the thousand stones trick posted in the dwonloads section but if you are placing stones on a map you already working on then try placing some more small stones and i am personally finding it impossible to have snow on higher terrain.

Why are you having trouble with snow on high terain?

When i create foam and use the 1000 stone trick to freeze it and lift it to higher terrain the snow will disappear .

well don't you only need it in water, not foam?

Creating snow on a crusader map is much different and harder. It doesn't have the foam tool to allow easier snow making. Instead one has to raise the level of ground to make foam. And unlike stronghold.if the snow is touched by any of the elevation tools, then it's gone. I've been working on a crusader invasion map (PYOK) that featured lot of snow on middle platue. Painstaking.

More than 1000 stones can be placed on a map before it reaches it's limit. One has to be careful where to start placing the stones.

I call it the 2000 stone trick due to some experimentation I did which I detailed in an SD forum post. Basically I found that the freezing effect occurs when you try to place the 2000th stone.

I placed 1999 small stones on a map in a regular way.

I could not place the 2000th stone.

Most people call it thw 1000 stone trick. But I am a bit of a pedant
