Hello Everyone,
Recently I started working on a new story, called Bourne of Fire, and since I'm sure you can't post whole stories in the Current Campaigns & Scenarios thread I decided to make my own.

It will consist of a Prologue, one or possibly two playable scenarios, and an epilogue, hopefully featuring a system where you will be given a code to input, using taunts, to give you one of three endings.

The Story:


It is dawn outside an old church. The warm sunlight falls upon crumbling walls, and broken windows. Thieves have long since stolen the stained glass by now. The wooden door is rotting, and its rusted hinges can barely support it anymore. It creaks open as a slight breeze blows through the church, and then closed again, as another breeze blows in the opposite direction. A tree is visible through the roof, its seed carried by the wind into the church, through a hole in the roof. The tree’s colourful autumn leaves rustling, as it smoothly moves from side to side.

Inside, the roots of the tree touch a place where the tile have been upturned, leaving only dirt for it to grow. Near it lies an aged book, with a cover of wood, and ripped cloth. It has but one piece of parchment left in it, the others torn out, by an unknown being. The remaining page is blank, but marks upon the other side are visible through the page. Another gust of wind echoes through the church, gently turning the page, so the marks on the other side can be read:

“August 19, 1267
I fear for the people of our humble town; they stay in their homes and no longer come to church, even on Sundays the church is quieter than ever before, every sound echoing through the halls, like a vision of what is to come. The streets no longer resonate with life, or even death, they are simply empty.

I saw a woman walking down the street once two moons ago, but as soon as she caught sight of me, she ran down an ally, and I did not see her again. Could they be avoiding me? This I do not know, but I have been seeing strange plumes of thick smoke floating to the sky, from somewhere beyond the outer limits of the town. I wonder now if this has something to do with it. If it does, tonight I will find out, I fear for the worst, but I hope I am proven wrong. Whatever it is,

In general, you should try to wait until you're 50%+ done with a scenario before posting about it.

Actually, the thread was more to see what people thought of the story than to tell about the scenario, and I have seen a lot of scenario threads where people only had scenarios 1-5% completed.

Thanks, and it is indeed unique, I wrote it last night at midnight, so I ended up spending about a half hour editing the grammar so it made sense this morning.

I have to stop doing that.

Well that is good. At least I know I'm not completely insane.

On the other hand...

Anyway, the reason there is only one screenshot, is because I haven't actually gotten very much farther than what you see in the picture. (I spent a most of my time on map design)

The story is very interesting and mysterious; the gameplay sounds like a dark one.

However, the picture could certainly do with more to make it gloomy and windy, as the story describes. Perhaps go for an autumnal setting? This would mean using leafless trees, leaves terrain, stumps, craters etc.

It's actually supposed to look overgrown, as if it has been empty for a long time, but you are probably right, It doesn't exactly fit the story.

EDIT: Anyone know where I can get some corpses impaled on spears?

1. Unhide all units from editor in Genied2

2. Find the skirmisher spear in Gaia -> Others

3. Position it how you want.

4. Position a corpse beside it.

Or if you want something straight up, use that head on pole thing on gaia others (forgot the name).

Good Idea, I didn't think of doing that. I don't need to unhide everything, I'll just look at the projectile ID for the skirmisher.

By the way, the head on a pole is called 'head.'

Too bad I won't work on the Scenarios today, must.. play...Bioshock...

Sorry for the lack of updates, I just bought the game Mass Effect a few days ago, and it is draining my life force time at the second, and I haven't opened AoK since I got it.

Ok, so I completely scrapped the first scenario in favour of another one. Which is set in the city, and admittedly looks quite a bit better than the one in the screenshot.

Right now I am in the process of figuring out what the ending will be. I have about 78 variations at the moment, so basicly: Definite Good, Definite Evil, Somewhat more Good than Evil, Somewhat more Evil than good, Sort of Good Evil mix lesser of two evils kind of thing, Passive, And a large number of inbetween.

Anyway, I'm not exactly sure which will be in there, but I'm hoping to include at least three, six maximum.

Like Impy said, tragic endings are perfect. They break tradition, they leave room for a sequel and they leave a stronger impact too.

Update Soon, haven't started on triggers for the Prologue.

@Everyone:

Should the prologue be a Cutscene or Playable?

(Have actually started the triggers, but I'm holding off doing anything solid until I see whether people want a cutscene or playable scenario)

EDIT: This sucks, one conversation is going to take 100 or more triggers, because of the typing effect I have.

Cutscene, as long as you can make it well. Good playability is easier to do than a good cutscene.

And all those triggers..It's your choice if you want them. It always annoys me when someone does that effect, as you can only do one letter per second. It takes too long.

Actually I changed the effect. It now only happens during titles, which saves me heap of annoying repititive work.
